drrzinistration aced with ChallengesThe administration of Papillion HighSchool was faced with some critical chal

lenges in the 1968-6 9 school year. With enrollment at PHS alone toppingthe 1000 mark and primary schools full tothe brim, two bonds for construction of expanded educational facilities were submittedto School District 27 voters. The first bond, which allotted 950,000to build an addition to PHS and provide morefacilities at Parkview Heights and CarriageHill elementary schools, passed by a vote of377 to 237However, at a School Board meetingon November 4 architects informed the

Board that the projected high school addition would rest on a flood plain, necessitating the driving of pilings which wouldcause considerable extra expense. After a thorough re-study of the situation, another bond of 1.2 million wasproposed. t would have built a new twophase high school between Papillion andLaVista, turning PHS into a junior high;but the bond issue failed by a 553-463margin.After this turbulent school year, theadministrators still face problems in theirquest to retain a high level of quality ineducation at Papillion.

Besides replacing the oldfashioned boy-ask-girl tradition with girl-ask-boy, the Yuletide -fair had several computer dances whererevelers were paired with a partner selected by a computer.Starting at 8 on December 21 thedance featured music by the New BreedBlues Band, a 9-piece combo with a brasssection that was the largest group toever perform at a PHS school function.Even the flu epidemic which hadboosted absenteeism to almost 30 theweek before did not deplete the turnoutto the function held on the eve of Christmas vacation.
