“SCRIP” Reminder SCRIP puts your regular shopping dollars to work supporting your parish and school with over fifty retailers ….. grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, department stores, hardware stores, movie theaters, spas and more!

SCRIP cards are always available in the school office and after Mass twice per month ….. next up, March 3rd/4th and 17th/18th.

Thank you for supporting your parish and school!

The week was highlighted by the student talent show which took place this past Friday. The students took such joy in showing off a different skill that their peers may not have known about. We have a very talented group of students here at the school! The students also worked with their prayer partners this week to color their spirit flames and write their Lenten promises on the back. Throughout this season the school is collecting various items for ECHO – next week will be canned vegetables. The middle school students have been rehearsing hard for this year’s musical – Surfs Up. It should be another wonderful show! We have been encouraged by some recent tours of the school, but encourage all of our Parishioners to continue to spread good things about the school! Finally, our team has been working hard to prepare another Salad Luncheon on March 9 – please come! Upcoming Events: 2/28: School Mass – all welcome! 8:15am 3/1: STEM – Minecraft (3–4:30) 3/1: End of Trimester! 3/2: No School – Teacher Work Day 3/4: Home Basketball 3/9: Salad Luncheon

Prayer of the Faithful May we have the faith and courage to place our Hope in Him through loving and caring for the spiritual and physical needs of those in our diocese and generously giving to this year’s Annual Catholic Appeal, and may we all join together to “Dare to Hope!” We pray to the Lord.

Thank you for your support of our parish, Diocese and the work of the Church throughout the world.

Lenten Disciplines of Fasting and Abstinence

Catholics in good health ages 18 to 59 are required to fast and to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.

Fasting consists of eating only one meal, with the possibil-ity of two smaller snacks that do not add up to a single full meal.

Catholics age 14 and older are to abstain from meat on all Fridays in Lent.

There are still openings for Ministers for the Holy Triduum; Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday (March 29, 30 and 31). Please log into our Ministry Program to volunteer for a spot, or let Bob know and he’ll input your information.

Second Sunday of Lent

And to those who sold doves he said, “Take these out of here, and stop making my Father’s house a marketplace.” His disciples recalled the words of Scripture, “Zeal for your house will consume me.” - Jn 2:16-17

************************************************************** We all have things in our lives that don't belong there. Maybe it's the poor way we allow someone to treat us, maybe it's a habitual sin, maybe it's a pattern of thought or attitude that traps us in a cycle of regret, anger, or an inability to forgive. Jesus has bold words for us today: "Take these out of here." When we hear the story of the Cleansing of the Temple, it can be easy to look down on the animal-sellers and money-changers. However, they set up shop in the Temple for a very practical purpose. People needed to buy animals to sacrifice, they were going to sacrifice them in the Temple: ergo, quite a convenient, successful marketplace! For many of us, the negative influences in our lives don't come out of nowhere. We might have considered them quite practical and reasonable initially. We wanted to keep the peace, so we allowed someone to talk to us disrespectfully. A person hurt us deeply and we weren't prepared to let go of our resent-ment right away. Over time, these can fester and corrupt our inner life in a way we didn't expect. The response of Jesus is a strong one. "He made a whip out of cords and drove them all out of the temple area." God wants us to be whole, healthy human beings. He knows how destructive it is for our souls to be caught up sin -- our own sin and those of others. God's love for us is startlingly fierce. In a few short weeks we will celebrate the culmination of that courageous love as Jesus goes to his death on the cross. In the meantime, Lent is an opportunity for cleansing and renewal. If we've allowed into our lives things that don't belong, let today be the day we ask Jesus to clear them out. It's not always easy or pretty, but it's necessary for our hearts to function the way they were made. God will turn our tables over if we ask Him to.

is confined or hospitalized and would benefit from a pastoral

Lenten Special Collection It has been the custom at Nativity of Mary Parish to take a second collection each Sunday during Lent. Please consid-er giving toward these as a concrete way of showing love and care for others.

Next weekend, we will be collecting for Healthnet.

HealthNet of Rock County is a free medical & dental clinic serving Rock County individuals who have no health insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, or Medical Assistance.

When low-income and underinsured individuals utilize the emergency department for primary health care, the out-of-pocket medical expenses leave many individuals & families bankrupt.

Thank you for your generosity— $1419.20 was collected for Project 16:49.

Lent is a time of “retreat” before the Easter celebrations. During these forty days, in communion with Christ in the desert, each Christian is called to conversion, to turn our entire being towards God. This quiet and beautiful season offers an invitation to take “time apart” to reflect and draw closer to God. And, Taize’ Prayer is a wonderful response to that invitation. This lovely, meditative prayer style combines simple and accessible music, reflective readings, and silence. Plan to be with us on Monday, March 12 at 7:00 PM for a peaceful and enriching Lenten prayer experience.
