Art of Design with Dan Laib Saturday, April 29th at 11am Children of all ages and their families Length: 1 hour In the Art of Design Show, you'll get the opportunity to interact with a lot of original art work from artist Dan Laib. Resource Spotlight: Universal Class

1000 Books Before Kindergarten Don’t forget to join Prairie Trails Public Library’s newest reading program: 1000 Books Before Kindergarten! Regis-tration is open, just bring your Prairie Trails Library card to the Youth Services Desk to register and to receive more information. An adult may register up to 3 children on one adult library card.

Contest: Who Hatches There are pictures of 12 hatching eggs hiding in the chil-dren’s department. Can you find them? Write the name or draw a picture of each animal you find and enter for a chance to win a prize. Contest open to children birth – 6

th grade.

Storytimes Registered storytimes are continuing through the week of April 24

th and include Baby Bounce, Toddler Time, Music

Movement and Stories, and After School Club. Call or see the Youth Services desk for information and availability.

Family Jam Tales

Every Monday at 6:30pm AND Every Thursday at 11am Children of all ages and their families Length: 30 minutes No registration is required for this storytime, but space is limited. Join us for a storytime designed for the whole family. A wide variety of stories, music, and more will be shared.

LEGO Zone Saturday, April 1st at 11am Children of all ages and their families Length: 45 minutes No registration is required for this event, but space is limited.

Imagine, create, and BUILD! Join us for LEGO fun. We provide the Legos, and you provide the imagination. All materials must stay at the library, so parents bring a camera to capture your child’s creations. Any child age 5 or under must have caregiver present in the program room.

Dreamcatcher Craft Saturday, April 8th Drop-In Between 11am-12:30pm Children of all ages and their families No registration is required for this program, but supplies are limited. Create a dreamcatcher to catch all your bad dreams and decorate your room. There will be two designs for you to choose from – the typical dreamcatcher and a star one!

Parachute Play Monday, April 10th at 10am Children of all ages and their families Length: 30 minutes No registration is required for this program, but space is limited. Parachutes are SO much fun! But did you also know that they are also great for learning busy-bodies? Find out how at our Parachute Playtime.

Sensory Storytime: Trees Monday, April 10th at 11am Ages: 3-6 with a parent or caregiver Limit: 10 Length: 30 minutes Sensory Storytime is an interactive program that can be enjoyed by all children, but it is especially designed for children with sensory integration challenges. If your child has difficulty sitting through a traditional storytime, this pro-gram of stories, songs, and activities may be just what you’re looking for. Please let us know at registration if you need a “Visual Guide” to better prepare your child for the program or if there are any additional accommodations your child may need.

Family Coloring Night Thursday, April 13th at 6:30pm Children of all ages and their families Length: 1 hour No registration is required for this event, but space is limited. Coloring is all the rage with everyone from preschoolers to grandparents. Why not share the joy of coloring with those you love the most? It’s a great way to connect with your child and share in conversation. We have simple pages for children and more complex pages for older coloring enthu-siasts. Crayons and colored pencils will be provided. Bring the whole family for a fun and relaxing time! Any child age 8 and under must have caregiver present in the pro-gram room.

To register you must have a Prairie Trails Public Library card. You can register online or in person; however, we do not register over the phone. An adult can register up to three children on one adult library card in person only.

To register online, go to our webpage under About Us and click on Calendar. Select the program you want to register for and fill out the online form.

Your child’s library card must be used. Make sure you read all information as you register and follow the age and grade restrictions for programs.

Youth Events Registration is required for the following youth events unless otherwise noted.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Party! Saturday, April 15th at 11am Ages: 3-12 Limit: 30 Length: 1 hour If you love everything about those giant turtles, then you’re going to love this party! We are going to celebrate every-thing TMNT with crafts, games, snacks, and more.

Gumdrop Engineering Monday, April 17th Drop-In Between 2pm-4pm Ages: 3-12 What kind of structure can you make with just toothpicks and gumdrops? Can you build the tallest tower or some-thing strong enough to hold a book? Test your engineering skills at this drop-in program.

Family Game Night Thursday, April 20th at 6:30pm Children of all ages and their families Length: 1 hour No registration is required for this event, but space is lim-ited. Have some family fun playing together with the library’s collection of board games such as Guess Who, Sorry, Trouble, Twister, Jenga, Yatzee, Clue and more! Any child age 8 and under must have caregiver present in the program room.

Community Superheroes: Doctor Saturday, April 22nd at 11am Ages: Birth – 6th Grade Length: 45 minutes No registration is required for this event, but space is lim-ited. Join us for this series that will introduce Burbank Commu-

nity Helpers to our children and their families. Each pro-

gram will feature a different person working for us in the

community such as a police officer, fire fighter, or doctor.

After sharing some stories about each profession, we will

have an opportunity to listen to the community superhero

talk about what they do on their job and answer any ques-

tions you might have. This Saturday will feature local doc-

tor! Any child age 5 or under must have caregiver present

in the program room

Spring Playtime Monday, April 24th at 11am Ages: Birth – 5 years (Not Yet in Kindergarten) Limit: 20 Length: 45 minutes Come and meet other children and caregivers while play-ing with toys, puzzles, puppets, books and more! Caregiver must remain with child throughout program.

C2: Comics & Crafts Tuesday, April 25th at 6:30pm Grades: 4th and up (including teens through 12th grade) Length: 1 hour Do you like reading comics and graphic novels? Do you love Raina Telgemeier, Jarrett J. Krosoczka, and Jennifer Holm? Maybe you can’t get enough Batman or Avengers? Then this book club is for you! Each month we’ll discuss a different graphic novel and do a craft or activity to compliment the book. BONUS: when you reg-ister for the program you will receive your very own copy of the book to KEEP! This month’s book is Cardboard by Doug TenNapel.

Act Out! Wednesdays in May at 4pm Final Performance on Wednesday, May 31st at 4pm Grades: K – 2nd Limit: 10 Length: 1 hour If you like to act, perform or just like being silly then this program is for you. We will be using the book We Are Growing by Laurie Keller as inspiration for a mini reader’s theater. Each Wednesday in May, starting on May 3

rd children will rehearse and practice their lines. Then

on May 31st, we’ll invite all of our family and friends to a

final performance, which will begin at 4pm. Come join us!

Teen Events These events are designated for teens in 7

th – 12

th grade.

No registration is necessary unless otherwise noted, but space is limited.

Kid’s Resource Spotlight: TumbleBookLibrary TumbleBookLibrary is a database of children’s e-books available with your Prairie Trails Public Library card. Titles for grades kindergarten – 6

th grade and include unique animated, talking picture books, read along chapter books, national

geographic videos, nonfiction books, playlists, AND books in Spanish and French. Graphic Novels and math stories are also featured. To access it click under the Downloads tab on the library’s homepage (http://www.prairietrailslibrary.org/) and look for TumbleBookLibray. A Prairie Trails Public Library card is required for access.

Teen Advisory Board Tuesday, April 4th at 7pm-8pm Need to earn service hours? Join our Teen Advisory Board! This is a great opportunity for you to earn hours AND take part in teen services at the library. At each monthly meeting you can share your thoughts and ideas on future teen programming and suggest titles to purchase for the collections.

Teen Crafting: Blackout Poetry Saturday, April 15th at 2pm-3pm Celebrate National Poetry Month with us as we make Blackout Poetry, a contem-porary art form. Using writ-ten text, such as newspaper and books, teens will create verse (and art) by using a permanent marker and elimi-

nating the words they don’t need. This is one fun, thera-peutic, and super cool creative process that you won’t want to miss out!

Poetry Slam & Improv Night Wednesday, April 19th at 6:30pm-8pm We’ve got a 2-for-1 program just for TEENS! Come share your original work, read something from your favorite poet, or show support for other teens at our Poetry Slam. Then, in the second half, we’ll utilize and practice our improvisa-tion skills! So if you like fun and games, we challenge you to test your quick-thinking skills with us. Participation is required. Warning: Hilarity and fun guaranteed!

Manga Monday Monday, April 24th at 7:30pm-8:30pm Like to read or create Manga, watch Anime, or obsessed with Cosplay? Then this is the program for you! We’ll dis-cussing, watching, and enjoying all things Manga and Anime. Snacks will be served! Join us as we meet on the last Monday of every month.

Tearable Puns April 1

st, aka. April Fools’ Day, is known as one of the most

light-hearted days of the year and we’re on a mission to enjoy good and bad puns more often this month. So, whether you’re hanging out at the library or you’re just pop-ping in, be sure to seek out this passive program. Yeah, that’s right, our puns are going to be so tearable that you’ll have to share them with friends. Go ahead, tear away, it’s seriously encouraged.

Cubs & White Sox Greats Thursday, April 6th at 7pm No PTPLD library card required to register. Lecturer Tim Wilsey provides a glimpse of some of the baseball greats that have captivated fans for generations. From the Black Sox scandal and Comisky Park legends to the ’69 Cubs and their most recent run to a World Series championship, you will discover exciting new facts about your favorite baseball team!

The Golden Age of Radio Thursday, April 13th at 7pm No PTPLD library card required to register. Need a good scare for a change? Join radio histo-rian and Those Were the Days host Steve Darnall for a look back at the "Golden Age" of radio, when sounds and voices combined to create mem-orable — and sometimes frightening — images in the "Theatre of the mind."

Microsoft Excel Part 2 Thursday, April 6th at 2pm If you already have some Microsoft Excel experience but would like to further your knowledge of the program, then this class is right for you! We will review some of the basics we covered in the first class then delve deeper into formu-las, charts, and templates. Some computer experience is necessary.

National Library Week Trivia Contest Saturday, April 15th at 2pm No PTPLD library card required to register. Help us celebrate National Library Week by participating in our Jeopardy!-style trivia contest!

Tech Time Registration is required for the following computer classes. Each program is limited to 10 PTPLD participants.

Patrons may register up to one guest.

Introduction to Google Drive Wednesday April 26th at 7pm This class will cover the TOTALLY FREE resources you can access with Google. We will discuss how to create an account, what Google Drive is and how it works, and how to use Docs, Sheets, and Slides.

MONEY SMART WEEK: How Money Works Tuesday, April 25th at 7pm No PTPLD library card required to register. This workshop will demonstrate the fundamental concepts of building financial security. Learn about savings accounts, retirement strategies, ways to reduce debt, and more!

Smaller Flowering Shrubs for Small Gardens Thursday, April 27th at 7pm No PTPLD library card required to register. Shrubs are the workhorses of the garden—get some pedigrees! Plant some “tuff stuff” in your problem are-as. Put your ladder away—shorter and compact shrubs mean you prune less. It’s not complicated, it’s Gardening Simplified. This new garden book featuring 200 shrub introduction will be given to attendees—one per family.

MONEY SMART WEEK: Buying Your First Home Saturday, April 29th at 10am No PTPLD library card required to register. This up-to-date program for first-time home buyers will cover current information on credit scores, new pro-grams with low down payments, and how to access free down payment assistance.
