Assessing and Supporting Literacy in Summer Enrichment Programs Learn about an effective summer literacy assessment developed with reading specialist Tim Rasinski. Participants will learn how the assessment is cost and time effective, measures a range of literacy skills, informs individual and group instruction, and serves the need for program and system-level outcome reporting.

Jefferson County Public Schools A Summer Literacy Intervention for Emergent Readers Learn about this four-week summer oral language and literacy intervention which was designed to boost the literacy skills of approximately 500 at-risk early readers in Louisville, Kentucky. The promising program outcomes will be shared with attendees as well as details of implementation.

Save the Children Supporting Emerging Readers During All Types of Summer Programming Do you have young children in your program who are not yet reading? Attend this session to learn about three specific, low-cost literacy activities based on research with the intention of assisting emerging readers in becoming independent readers.

Beyond Gold Stars: How to Increase Student Motivation During Summer Literacy Instruction This workshop will share findings from a research intervention that embedded motivational strategies into a summer literacy program for struggling readers. Participants reduced task avoidance, increased engagement, and improved reading abilities. Specific motivational strategies will also be discussed.

Children & Youth, United Way of Massachusetts Bay & Merrimack Valley It Takes a Partnership: Achieving Measurable Literacy Outcomes Through Collaboration Participants will learn about Massachusetts' Summer Learning Collaborative, a unique model that builds the capacity of existing summer programs while achieving measurable outcomes in literacy among children K-3.
