MUSEUM SYMBOLISM TRADITIONS
Every three years, an entire village devotes itself to an ancient, almost mystical tradition which places particular importance on Tyrolean customs: the “Nassereither Schellerlaufen”!
Known far beyond national borders, the Nassereith carnival is an audience magnet for visitors from near and far.
Several years ago, this sensational tradition earned itself its very own Carnival House that’s open year-round; in combination with modern presentation technology, it’s quite a spectacular experience!
Here, visitors can marvel at colourful costumes, old traditions and large, charming wooden masks made by local artists.
Allow yourself to be taken by surprise with our breathtaking performance traditions!A truly remarkable traditional experience!
Nassereith is one of the few places in Tyrol where the old traditional carnival customs are still alive today. For weeks, this ancient tradition holds the entire town under its spell.
The blaze of colours of the Nassereith Carnivalare reflected in the silk garments and costumes of the "beautiful trains" consisting of a ringer, jumper, sweeper, sprayer, sacker, smacker and a bucket maid (Scheller, Roller, Kehrer, Spritzer, Sackner, Schnöller and Kübelemaje). Many of these handcrafted and elaborately
embroidered carnival garments are on display for your viewing pleasure in our exhibition.
Customs/traditionsClearly defined rules which were handed down over centuries precisely frame the Schellerlaufen sequence of events. The central theme of the Schellerlaufen is the victory of spring over winter which is personified in the bear and the bear chaser figures. At the Nassereith Carnival House, you’ll experience everything surrounding an age-old Tyrolean tradition and the power and symbolism of the Nassereith carnival all year round.
