For example, First Street between Ave. A and B. You’ll sound like a local in no time. Sleeping and eating If budget isn’t an is- sue, choose a hotel that is convenient to where you want to go so you don’t spend half your time just getting from place to place. There is no limit to the options. Just steps from the runways at Lincoln Cen- ter, NYLO New York City provides fashionistas with the ultimate New York experience. The hotel’s 285 loft-inspired guest rooms keep both style and comfort top of mind, blending their signature urban, indus- trial design with the energy, color and fash- ions of New York’s Jazz Era. In addition to culinary all-stars RedFarm and Serafina, the hotel’s lob- by LOCL Bar and Piano Lounge are the perfect spot for a tipple pre-and- post night on the town. If staying at NYLO, be sure to take a walk around the corner to Irving Farm Coffee Roasters on 79th between Broadway and Amsterdam for a phe- nomenal breakfast and perfect cappuccino. The London NYC is classic elegance, with all the benefits of its conve- nient location in Midtown with easy access to Fifth Avenue shopping, Broad- way theaters, Carnegie Hall and Times Square, at the foot of Central Park. Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant at The London offers sophisticated French-inspired cuisine and an impressive, award-winning wine list. Guests can splurge on an exclusive dining experi- ence by eating at the Chef’s Table, entering “the inner sanctum” of the restaurant’s multi- million dollar kitchen. Accommodating up to eight guests for an eight- course tasting menu and wine pairing, it’s one of the city’s most coveted culinary experiences. Another impressive dining experience is just blocks from the London in Columbus Circle, where chef Angie Berry creates deconstructed, innovative dishes at Asiate in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Some may have you asking “What exactly is this?” but then one bite and it doesn’t really matter. It’s an experience. The High Line Hotel opened in Chelsea in May 2013. Carved out of the red-brick General Theo- logical Seminary com- plex, a registered Man- hattan landmark, the hotel is adjacent to the iconic High Line “rail- road-line park,” dozens of restaurants, clubs and the city’s hippest art gallery neighborhood. Utterly unique, in- stead of opting for stan- dard hotel furnishings, every room, suite, corri- dor and public space is furnished with Victorian or Edwardian antiques, period art, Tiffany-style lamps, rewired 1920’s dial telephones and a vast collection of authentic Oriental carpets. Located on Tenth Ave- nue, turn-of-the-20th- century gas lamps line the sidewalk and entry. A shiny 1960s Citroën truck out front serves coffee and snacks from Chi- cago-based Intelligentsia. Truth be told, you could spend the rest of your life sampling all of the city’s eats and never eat at the same place or have the same dish twice, which makes narrowing down the must-eat places nearly impossible. How- ever, there is such a thing as “what’s hot now” and “what’s always hot.” Here’s a short list of favorites. Cookshop in Chelsea on Tenth Avenue at 20th Street is considered “farm to hipster.” Hold- ing strong to the philoso- phy that the butcher and the baker were the first chefs, the menu high- lights sustainable and seasonal ingredients, humanely raised animals and the support of local farmers and artisans. The NoMad, also a hotel, is a destination restaurant and bar in and of itself with Chef Daniel Humm at the helm. Serv- ing dishes that can only be described as heavenly, part comfort, part ele- gance, you’d be remiss going without trying their signature dish — the whole-roasted chick- en for two with foie gras, black truffle, brioche with nettles, white aspar- agus and soft-poached egg. Not your average chicken. Lil’ Frankie’s in the East Village on First Avenue has been a neigh- borhood favorite for years. Quaint, intimate, with soothing aromas enticing all the senses from the moment you walk through the door, it’s an unassuming hole in the wall that is always bustling for good reason. Whether it’s a thin, Ital- ian-style pizza from their Neopolitan wood-burning oven or a garlicky kale Caesar salad, you can’t go wrong. As with anything in New York, even bars, make reservations well in advance. Note: If traveling this summer, Newark Airport might not be the best choice. Often more eco- nomical than John F. Kennedy International, the airport’s Air Train, which connects the ter- minals to the city, will be closed through July 15. That means primarily taxis, cars and buses will be serving the airport, which will make traffic a mess, not to mention that one of their major run- ways is expected to be under construction through June, potentially causing gate and runway delays. For private car trans- portation from the air- ports to the city, young entrepreneur Simon Chkifati is the owner of Luxor Limo, offering competitive pricing and convenient service around the greater Man- hattan area.
