Page 2: Nantwich Civic Hall Extension Plans Revealed€¦ · In sports we have seen Bryony Page and Andy Small succeed at Rio 2016. I am extremely pleased to be able to see them at the Christmas

Over the summer, my wife and Mayoress Linda and I have attended many wonderful events. We saw record numbers attend the award winning Nantwich Show. This was followed by the Big Day Out and of course Nantwich Food Festival.

These events could not achieve what they have done, without the incredible volunteers. On behalf of the town I would like to thank you for all of your efforts, hard work and dedication.

Many household names have visited events at our town, in recent months and I am sure many have been entertained by them.

Over the last few months we have seen TV chefs James Martin and Jean-Christophe Novelli. In the Words and Music Festival there has been legendary broadcaster Whispering Bob Harris, Dr John Cooper Clarke, and our own Thea Gilmore and Nigel Stonier.

In sports we have seen Bryony Page and Andy Small succeed at Rio 2016. I am extremely pleased to be able to see them at the Christmas Light Switch on, together with Thea.

We are a town very much punching above our weight and it is a real privilege to be its Mayor.

Welcome

Awards for Nantwich PlayersNantwich Players regularly compete in two full-length Drama Festivals (Cheshire Theatre Guild and North Staffs Drama Federation) and two one-act Festivals in Wilmslow and Greater Manchester.

Adjudicators visit the theatres watching dozens of plays making copious notes on each one, until at the end of the season winners are identified in every category. Everything is judged from the poster to the choice of interval music, from the set-painting and costumes to the actors’ performances. The culmination of the judges’ work and the drama groups achievements are the Awards Nights where each Theatre Company learns how they have performed against each other.

Nantwich Players won 10 Awards for their plays in the 2016-17 season in categories as varied as Acting, Directing, Lighting & Sound, Costume and Best Production. In addition to the Awards, there were a further 20 nominations. As there can be more than 60 plays in some Festivals this has been a most encouraging result and it is the group’s intention to enter Festivals next year too.

If you have not yet attended a performance, visit www.nantwichplayers.com for more information.

Food Festival’s Huge SuccessNantwich once again had people packing the streets of our lovely town to enjoy the annual free Food Festival that has become a much-loved and ‘must go-to’ festival in the Nantwich events calendar.

The festival has gone from strength to strength. This year it offered over 200 stalls selling a wide range of food and crafts, 2 music stages showcasing local artists, competitions, children’s entertainment and local and celebrity chef demonstrations.

Candice Brown, 2016 Bake Off Winner wowed the crowds with her baking demonstrations, happily touring the town posing for photographs with local traders and visitors. Katy Ashworth, CBeebies presenter returned to delight children and parents alike.

Festival Director John Coulter stated “The response from the fabulous, hardworking volunteers had been fantastic. It makes all our efforts over the year, as well as over the weekend worthwhile when we see all our visitors enjoying themselves. A big thank you also needs to be given to our Sponsors, local traders, Nantwich Town Council and Cheshire East Council for their support. Without this essential help we could not put on a festival.”

He continued “The Festival also brings together many organisations such as local Scouts, bands, buskers, churches and charities and prides itself on helping to give a start-up to small businesses.”

Plans are now underway to organise a 2018 Festival. Anyone who is interested in helping either throughout the year, or over the weekend, are asked to contact [email protected]

Sergeant Ian Bennett and the Nantwich beat team say a big hello to all local residents and visitors to the town.

It has been another busy year in Nantwich, working alongside the Town Council to provide support for events and initiatives. This year’s food festival was another great success and Nantwich officers were all involved to make the town a safe and enjoyable environment for all visitors.

The Town Council, local residents and the Nantwich Policing Team have also identified that road safety is a concern to many around the town. In view of this the team deployed the new TRU-CAM enforcement camera around the area. This has been well received by local residents and we have also had great support from the Nantwich Town Speedwatch Group. As winter approaches our efforts to make the town roads safer will continue, the aim is not just to prosecute offenders for speeding offences but to educate them of the dangers when using excessive speed.

The Nantwich beat team wishes everyone all the best for the forthcoming festive period and a great New Year. If you want to keep up with the team’s good work you can follow us on twitter @PoliceNantwich.

An exhibition celebrating the work of the Society, which was founded in 1967. It tells how the Society was formed at a time when the town was witnessing many dramatic changes, including the loss of buildings of historic and architectural importance. Photographs in the exhibition provide a selective view on buildings constructed over the last 50 years to stimulate thoughts and comments about modern architecture, and how new buildings might be designed in future to enhance the town.
