NEW SUPPORT GROUP FOR SURVIVORS OF SUICIDE LOSS

Survivors of Suicide Loss, a free support group for people whose lives have been impacted by the loss of a loved one, friend, neighbor, or co-worker to suicide will

NAMI Basics is the new signature education program for parents and other caregivers of

children and adolescents living with mental illnesses. FAMILY SUPPORT GROUPS

We now offer two monthly Family

Support Groups for family members of

persons with mental illness:

Every first Wednesday from 6:30-

8 p.m. at 1538 Louisiana Ave. in

New Orleans

Every third Tuesday from 6:30-

8 p.m. at 2051 8th St. in Harvey

Anyone with a family member living

with a mental illness is welcome to at-

tend either or both groups.

NAMI CONNECTION PEER

SUPPORT GROUPS

NAMI Connection is a weekly recovery

support group. People living with

mental illness can learn from each

others’ experiences, share coping

strategies and offer encouragement and

understanding. It is offered weekly at

two locations:

Thursdays from 1:30-3 p.m. at

1538 Louisiana Ave. in New

Orleans

Tuesdays from 12:30-2 p.m. at

2051 8th St. in Harvey

Anyone living with a mental illness is

welcome to attend.

FALL FAMILY-TO-FAMILY COURSE

NAMI Family-to-Family is a free, 12-session education program for family,

partners, friends and significant others of adults living with mental illness. The course is

designed to help all family members understand and support their loved one living with

mental illness, while maintaining their own well-being. The course includes information

on illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression and other mental

health conditions. Thousands of families describe the program as life-changing. The pro-

gram is taught by trained teachers who are also family members and know what it is like to

have a loved one living with mental illness.

Our fall course will be offered at the NAMI New Orleans Uptown Friendship Club

Thursdays: September 12 - December 12

from 6:30-9 p.m. (no class on Halloween or Thanksgiving)

SPECIALIST

The NAMI New Orleans Family Re-

source Specialist Cecile Tebo, LCSW,

is available for in-person and phone

appointments on Wednesdays to help

family members seeking assistance regarding a loved one with a mental

illness.

She can provide information on services, supports and resources that are

available for persons with mental

illness, as well as information and sup-

port with how to cope with managing a

family member in crisis.

Congratulations to our New Day team! This community-based program provides

housing case management services for 60 chronically homeless individuals with mental

illness and/or co-occurring disorders.

Are you living with a mental illness? Are you in recovery and working towards well-

ness? Would you like to share what you have learned about living well with mental

illness with others who are going through similar struggles? NAMI New Orleans is looking for people living with mental illness who are in recovery to be trained as Peer

Educators. We will begin hiring and training in November. If you would like more
