NAME LOGO Objectives Use typography in a meaningful way. Design a symbol that supports a message. Combine typography and a symbol in a simple icon that is easily read and understood. Demonstrate design drawing ability. Description Get ready to make a statement with your name! With Illustrator’s versatile type tools you can easily create dazzling typographic designs. Make a logo of your name. Start by researching typefaces (fonts) installed on your computer. Find several typefaces for your name that you believe convey an attitude appropriate to who you are and combine your name with a symbol(s)/artwork that does the same. Experiment with different ways of combining the artwork and your name using layering, scale changes, and other ways of combining the elements in a harmonious manner. Keep your design simple so it can be read and understood on small- as well as large-scale applications. Materials Use the computer and to create SIX variations of your name logo, each time using a different typeface or stylistic treatment. Saving Make a folder in your home directory titled NAME LOGO. Save all six versions as separate files. Also, save them as .JPG files in the same folder. Blog Create a new blog post titled NAME LOGO. Choose the one your like the most from the six you designed and insert that into this post. Then, answer the following questions in complete sentences in the blog post: 1. How is the typography you used expressive of you and your personality? 2. What physical attributes does the typeface possess that give it its character? 3. How does the artwork you chose express you and/or your personality? 4. What design principles influenced your design decisions when you were combining type with artwork? 5. What types of refinements did you make to produce the final design? *FYI – You will be using this logo as a title for a digital portfolio you will be creating from all of the projects you are done this year. *See the graphics on the next page for inspiration! >>>
