Plants in the Light vs. Dark: 1. Draw and Label how we are setting up our mini-experiment:
2. What do you predict is going to happen to the BTB in each solution, after 24hours:
Set-Up What was the BTB like at the start?
What will happen to the BTB?
Why do you think this?
BTB in Distilled Water
BTB in Soda Water
BTB in Algae Cup (in the Light for 24hrs)
BTB in Algae Cup (in the Dark for 24hrs)

3. What happened to the BTB in each set-up after 24hours?
Set-Up What was the BTB like at the start?
What happened to the BTB?
Why does this tell us?
BTB in Distilled Water
BTB in Soda Water
BTB in Algae & Soda Cup (in the Light for 24hrs)
BTB in Algae & Soda Cup (in the Dark for 24hrs)
4. Plants do a process called PHOTOSYNTHESIS in the light.
What do plants need / take in, in order to complete Photosynthesis?
What evidence do we have to support our answers?
5. Do plants do PHOTOSYNTHESIS in the dark? ______________
What evidence do we have to support this answer?

Snail & Elodea A biology class (that has more money than Ms. Rozema’s)
conducts an experiment with plants and animals. They learned a lil
bit about cellular respiration and animals, and were learning more
about photosynthesis and plants. But, to better understand both
processes, and how they connect, they wanted to run an experiment
with animals living amongst plants.
So…. This rich biology class buys some aquatic snails, and some
elodea (an aquatic plant). The fill some large test tubes with distilled
water, BTB, and then a mixture of just plants-just snails-snails and
plants. They then put some of them in the light, and some in the dark.
The following are the results of this experiment.

THE
LIGHTS RESULTS
(1)
1 plant On
Starting BTB Color: Green
Ending BTB Color: Blue
Ending Concentration of Oxygen Gas: 12ppm
Ending Concentration of Carbon Dioxide Gas: 0ppm
(2)

Ending BTB Color: Green
Ending Concentration of Oxygen Gas: 4.7ppm
Ending Concentration of Carbon Dioxide Gas: 7.3ppm

Part 4: Making Predictions For each of the following set-ups, FIRST PREDICT what you think will happen (based on previous
simulations), and then PRESS PLAY and record the ACTUAL RESULTS.
