WHITESTALLIONA 2010 CRF250Rtouched by Wiseco

While out east in Ohio (any-thing east of Arizona is con-

sidered “east” for us SouthernCalifornia kids), we spent a dayriding a Wiseco-equippedCRF250R. It wasn’t a radicallymodified machine, but it hadsome key performance parts fromWiseco and was home to somegreat aftermarket goodies, like anAkrapovic exhaust, great-lookingUFO white plastic and all-blackQTM wheels.

Boothy rips around Crow Canyon inOhio on the Wiseco-equipped 2010CRF250R. The addition of the Wiseco RSeries piston, fuel controller and theAkropovic system boosted the powerover stock everywhere and addedmuch-needed grunt down low.

FIRE IT UP!The heart of the CRF250R is a Wiseco R Series piston

that is built on dedicated boxed-strutted forgings for stiff-ness and minimal weight. The Wiseco R Series piston is ahigh-compression unit at 14.5:1 and is fully strutted andshot-peened. In the past, the R Series pistons werereserved for race teams, but Wiseco now offers them tothe public.

With the added boost of the high-compression piston,Wiseco installed their clutch, which features a forgedclutch basket, forged inner hub and forged pressure platewith a Wiseco clutch pack. We’ve tested this clutch beforeon CRF250s, and we love it. The action is smooth, and itheld up well on both modified and non-modified bikes. Tohelp let the motor breathe more efficiently, we used anAkrapovic titanium Evolution system with resonator cham-

We love the quality and finish of Akrapovic systems, and welike it on the CRF250R. CV4 white radiator hoses looked greatin conjunction with the rest of the white. A loudmouth intakesystem was used as well.

The graphics were done by Johnny signs and applied oversome very cool-looking white UFO plastic. The all-blackwheels were QTM with Excel rims and Talon hubs wrapped inDunlop MX51 rubber. The stock front rotor was replaced byan oversized Brembo from QTM.

ber. It is a clean-looking system that provided good powerwithout damaging our eardrums. To make full use of theEFI 250F motor, Wiseco installed one of their Engine Fuelmanagement controllers. With just a few buttons, the EFIcan be tuned to suit a rider’s needs. It’s a cool system thatis pretty easy to use.

Starting the CRF250R took a little more leg power,thanks to the higher compression piston, but she stillfired up within a kick or two. Out on the moto track, wenoticed a harder hitting grunt off idle that pulled smooth-ly all the way to the rev limiter. There were no dead spots

The R Series are shot-peenedfor durability, and the rings are titanium Nitride coated ringsfor fast break-in, long ring life, sustained power and reducedblow-by. ArmorGlide permanent skirt coating reduces frictionand offers scuff protection. Price on the pistons is $282.37.

in the power, and we could pull a taller gear or use thestronger mid power to put power to the ground consis-tently. The stock 2010 CRF250R is a little weak off thebottom, and the R series piston and fuel controller give the250 a little more everywhere, including the bottom endwhere it really needs it.Pro-Action took a swing at the suspension on the Wiseco

CRF, and if we were racing Supercross we would haveloved it. It was overdone for outdoor motocross, though,and transmitted every pebble on the track straight into ourbodies. The benefits of the suspension being so stiff werehitting jump faces at speed and the ability to over jumpeverything to flat ground and never feel the stops. It was setup for Boothy at 175 pounds, but even riders tipping thescales over 200 felt it was too stiff. Luckily, the crew atCrow Canyon kept a nicely prepped track, and the bumpswere minimal.As we learn more about fuel injection, we love it more and

more. The ability to quickly change timing and fuel flow iswonderful, and the Wiseco bike let us do that. It lookedgood with the white plastic and the black wheels, and ranstrong.
