Two Recent Changes at WVH

1. Cancelling of Midterm Exams for January Waterford Valley High has decided to cancel midterm exams scheduled for the end of January. After weighing the pros and cons it was unanimously decided that this decision was in the best interests of our students at this time. Thus in January Instruction and assessment will continue as normal with no break in classes. Teachers will let students know updated evaluation schemes for courses in the coming days.

Also, a reminder that school will be closed Friday, Nov. 20th for report card preparation. Please be sure your child has completed all outstanding work and assignments and submitted by tomorrow at the latest. Report cards will go home next Thursday and parent interviews will be on Dec. 3rd. *Please note that there has been no decision regarding Public or final exams scheduled for June. The decision for public exams has to come from the Dept of Education and is not a school-based decision.

2. Recess is now combined with Lunch Students lobbied the school to cancel the 10 minute recess and add it to the lunch period. After some discussion staff have decided to give this a go on a trial basis. Thus each class is exactly 60 minutes in length and students have two minutes to move between classes. If a student required a snack during the first three periods they should ask permission of their teacher and try not to let eating disrupt the teaching and learning process. Lunch is now 56 minutes long and the end of the day is still at 3:02pm. Reminder we are still doing a staggered dismissal with Grade 10’s leaving at 2:52pm, Grade 11 at 2:57pm and Grade 12’s at 3:02pm. We have decided to maintain this format as Grade 12 students need to get every minute of instruction that they can to help prepare them for graduation.

Theatre Arts 3220 For our live performance (as mentioned in the last newsletter) it looks like the weather is not going to cooperate. Therefore, we are going to host a YouTube live. This performance will be filmed live and on the spot on Wednesday during class time. We will then upload the video to YouTube. We will attempt to make the video go live at 4pm. Because of copyright, we only have a performance license and therefore, the video will expire by 11pm. Anyone wanting to view the performance can email [email protected] and I will send you the link. For those who have already contacted, I will

respond with a link as soon as we upload. From all of us in Theatre Arts 3220 - We hope you enjoy what we’ve been learning in class and thank you for your support!

2nd Annual Student Art Contest 2020 Last spring we virtually invited students to participate in an art contest. Students were asked to submit a proposal (sketch and write-up) for a piece of art and from there the most successful pieces were chosen as winners. Below are the final artworks created by our student artists. These will be hung in our school lobby but we wanted to share them here so everyone can see the talented creations of our students! Congratulations to our Runner-ups Emma McIsaac and Selena Boyles, and our Overall Winner Molly Nash.
