THIS year The Storers, the ancient

Eastrea charitable trust, will award one or

more student grants to residents of the village.

The main award each year is The Storers Bur-

sary (more than one can be made in each year)

and additional student support grants may also

be made.

These awards are announced to the press, and

they are reported in the local media (see a

cutting from the Cambs Times, right).

For students, these are important awards and

they feature in their CVs. The award-winners

from previous years range from a doctor to a

lawyer. Students of any age can apply. Each

candidate must submit the following docu-

mentary evidence in support of an application:

1. A formal statement with name, address,

phone and email details. This document

should also set out out all academic, scholas-

tic, voluntary and social achievements. This

should include work experience, spare-time

activities in the community and all existing

examination results. A photocopy of GCSE

certificates that have already been obtained

should be included.

2. A list of anticipated grades for the A levels

in the summer. A photocopy of the school’s

document will suffice.

THE STORERS 2010 STUDENT AWARDS

Remember that applicants can be of any age.

Most of the award winners are off to college

from school, but we have had applications

from mature adults and we encourage any

Eastrea students to apply.

All papers should be delivered to Rothay

House, 6 Mayfield Road, tel 350888.

Note that the closing date for student

applications is 30 June 2010.

Ms Annette Coles (above left) of Faraway Art, Yaxley, has printed all the posters and tickets for the fund-raising race night planned for Friday 7 May at the Nag’s Head pub. The organiser Ms Tina Arnold (right) says, “Annette charged us a special

rate, to support our fund-raising efforts. In fact the price she charged was discounted by 80% on the other quotes we were given.” At the Nag’s Head last month the senior citizens’ Storers lunch was attended by thirty-four Eastrea residents (below). The lunches take place in Easter week.

Mrs Chris Turner (above), administrator to Eastrea Village Hall Trust, signs the contracts to finalise the construction of the new hall. Our solicitor, Mr Peter Haynes of Buckles in Peterborough, is also pictured. The Village Hall Trust have been provided with extensive additional legal advice by Buckles free of charge.

3. A summary of

the candidate’s

current financial

position must also

be included.

4. All applicants

should send a letter

of recommendation

from their head

teacher, head of

department or year

tutor (as appropri-

ate). This can be

sent separately to

the Trust.

5. We also require the phone

number or email address for

an independent referee who

is conversant with the appli-

cant and their activities and achieve-

ments. Our assessors will need

to be able to speak to

the referee nominated; but we do not

need a written testimonial.

6. We will require a photocopy of the

letter of acceptance from the college or

university where students intend to study

and copies of any A-level certificates

when they are announced in July.
