  • TEACHER SUPPLEMENT GRANTS NOW AVAILABLE!

    The Iowa Agriculture Literacy Foundation in partnership with theIowa Farm Bureau Federation is offerings grants up to $250 tosupport the integration of agriculture into regular classroominstruction or after school programs with an academic focus.Agriculture in the Classroom Teacher Supplement Grants aredesigned to initiate new projects or expand existing projects thatpromote agriculture literacy in Iowa. Grants can be used to fundinnovative lessons, activities, classroom resources, guest speakers,outreach programs, field trips and other projects. Deadline forapplying is Jan. 10, 2021 and projects must be completed by June 4,2021.

    SCHEDULE YOUR FREE VIRTUAL PROGRAM VISIT TODAY

    We know this school year is challenging and we want to assist you in anyway possible. We are excited tooffer our programming in a virtual format all for free!

    Prior to the agreed upon Zoom session, supplies that will be needed for the lesson will be dropped off inthe school office. During the lesson, the teacher helps faciliate the hands-on activity while Rachel doesthe step-by-step instruction.

    Lessons can be developed to help reinforce concepts taught in the classroom or another topic of yourchoosing. We can also work together to design a lesson to help cover a specific standard.

  • Join Lucas, an 8 year-old who will take you on a tour of hisfamily's dairy farm. Learn all about how farmers producemilk that will be used to make cheese and other deliciousproducts and how farmers take care of their cows and theenvironment.

    "My Family's Dairy Farm" joins the other books in the "MyFamily Farm" series that explores modern agriculturethrough the eye's of child. Other books in the series coverwind energy, beef production, egg production, cornproduction, apple production, turkey production, soybeanproduction, and swine production. All books are written ata third grade reading level with additional text written atthe 7th grade reading level. Each book is also accompaniedby two lessons that connect to the Iowa Core. We would bethrilled to conduct a virtual visit with one of the lessons ifyou are interested.

    READ ACROSS IOWA KITS AVAILABLE

    Read Across Iowa will be celebrated throughout themonth of March to bring the joys of reading to studentsof all ages and make all children feel valued andwelcomed. This agriculturally themed Read Across Iowaevent and the accompanying resources will featurebooks and materials about agriculture that will appealto all readers.

  • BUSHEL OF STORIES WRITING CONTEST NOW OPEN

    The Iowa Agriculture Literacy Foundation is kicking offan agriculture writing contest for students in grades3rd-8th. This unique contest will give students thechance to have their work published!

    Three sequential lessons have been provided forclassroom teachers to walk students through the writingprocess. Deadline for submission is March 1. Full detailscan be found by going to A Bushel of Stories(iowaagliteracy.org).

    HIGH STEAKS BEEF MARKETING COMPETITION KICKING OFF

    The Iowa Agriculture Literacy Foundation is bringing back their High Steaks! Beef MarketingCompetition for another year! This contest has three divisions: 3rd-5th, 6th-8th, and 9th-12th.

    In this contest, students explore the beef industry, learn why beef is good for your, careers inagriculture and puts students' creativity front and center! In the elementary division, students explorewhy beef is good for you and design a poster promoting beef products. In the middle and high schooldivisions, students will get the opportunity to put together a marketing plan for a beef product theycreate. Prizes include money for the classroom, certificates, and a chance for a BBQ catered lunch!

    Classrooms need to be registered by March 1st. Contest rules and registration can be found by goingto For Students (iowaagliteracy.org).
