PRINCIPAL’S PERSPECTIVES Balranald Central School would like to welcome Claudia Rawat, who will be joining our School for 12 months in 2019 as part of the Rural Placement Experience Program as a Learning Support Leader.

Claudia currently lives in Sydney with her daughter and an old German shepherd.

Ms Rawat is permanently employed by Model Farms High School, Baulkham Hills (1100 students). Her roles are as follows: Support Teacher in the support unit (25 students), Year Advisor Year 7 (205 student cohort), Social Inclusion coordinator (20 members) and Recess Club coordinator (7 members). Also, she has acted as relieving Head Teacher, Support in Term 1 this year, and will do so again in Term 4.

Claudia grew up in Salzburg, Austria and still has her Austrian accent. She enjoys snow skiing, hiking, camping, bushwalks, theatre, concerts, reading, people, new places and the list goes on.

Ms Rawat is very much looking forward to meeting everyone and to become an active member of the local community in Balranald in 2019.

Her role at Balranald Central School will be as the Learning Support Leader who will –

• Lead Project/Program Based Learning with a small group of students with diverse learning needs in a newly created Flexible Learning Centre

• To Lead the inclusion of adjustments for students with special learning needs in classrooms across the school

• To lead the writing of support plans relating to student learning across the school.

• Support ideas with student learning support referrals and Learning Support Officer distributions.

Balranald Central School celebrated Public Education last week with the theme: Today’s Schools – Creating Tomorrow’s World. It highlights how public schools across New South Wales are equipping young people with the skills and capabilities they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

Special guests from the community were invited into the school to present their life stories and their school experiences compared to current education. It was very interesting to hear different stories and to maintain strong connections between the school and community. The guests shared lunch with staff and had a tour of the school.

We had a very successful Stage 3 Transition day on Thursday where students from Euston Public School and St Joseph’s Primary School joined our Year 5 and 6 students to participate in a range of applied learning activities. Everyone had a great day of learning and making new friends. Our second transition day is planned for Thursday 13th September.

The school’s Kayak trailer is now complete and ready to use. The trailer will complement our 8 seater vehicle to ensure our students can easily access the resource. The kayaks will be used for educational programs such as Outdoor Recreation, Sport and Lifestyle, Environmental Science, PASS, PDHPE and School Sport. The school has gone through a very long process to get the trailer to completion stage. I would like to thank everyone involved for getting over each barrier and continually moving forward until the project was completed.

On Monday 20th August from 6.00pm, we will have our Year 10 into 11 student and parent information evening. The evening will provide general information about the Higher School Certificate requirements, subject/course preferences, pathways and an opportunity for questions and answers. It is important that parents and students attend the evening if at all possible.
