2018
From the principal’s desk:
Welcome to Week 3. Year 12
continue with their HSC
exams. Last week went quite
smoothly, with excellent
attendance at all exams. The
wet weather today caused
hold ups with traffic but
everyone arrived just in time
for the Advanced
Mathematics exam.
The P&C meeting listed in our
calendar for tomorrow night
(27th) is not happening
because of COVID 19. There
will be an online meeting on
November 10th.
The Year 12 Graduation
Assemblies will be restricted
to just two guests for each
student. We will video the
assemblies so that
grandparents and other
siblings can watch the
graduation later. We
understand how important it
is to celebrate the conclusion
of 13 years of schooling.
I hope parents appreciate
the photographs of our staff
each week in the newsletter.

attach a name to a face in this
COVID 19 world of restrictions. This
week we feature the Year Advisers.
Our assembly was postponed
today because the weather was
too unpleasant. Students were
better off going straight to class.
We will endeavour to have the
assembly tomorrow when the
weather predictions are more
favourable.
Don’t forget, if your child is going to
a new school in 2021 we need to
know now so that we can plan our
classes and timetable.
A reminder, AMEB Music exams
should take place on weekends or
during holidays, not during the
school week. Please arrange this
with your child’s music tutor.

Congratulations to our Videos For Change Finalists!!
This year, as part of a BHOPE class project, students from Year 7 and 8 entered the National
Videos For Change Competition. This is a competition that encourages young people to
create powerful messages about important social issues and encourage others to take action
around such. The theme for this year’s competition was “Community in a Crisis” and students
were encouraged to reflect on what it means to support people through a crisis.
It is with great pleasure that I can announce that one of our Year 8 teams has been selected
as a National Finalist in the Videos For Change Competition! The wonderful students in this
team are:
Roy Liu, Melissa Gao, Patrick Rejuso, Ellen Huang and Luc Du Toit!
This team produced an excellent and very powerful video about the struggles of personal
crises, called “Not Your Crisis”. Their video will now compete in the grand final for the Junior
Category, as well as the People’s Choice Award.
To give them all the support we can offer, it would be great if you would view their video,
entitled “Not Your Crisis”, at this link and vote for them in the People’s Choice Award:
http://bit.ly/NotYourCrisisVideosForChange
Follow the links to People’s Choice Voting and vote for “Not Your Crisis” – see thumbnail below!
The video with the most votes will be announced as the People’s Choice Award, so please
encourage others to view this very important video and vote for it! By doing so, you are helping
to spread awareness about a very important issue facing young people today.
I am very proud of the students in this group and congratulate them on their outstanding
efforts!

ReachOut's top tips for beating stress
Everyone experiences stress at some point, but there are heaps of simple ways to minimise its
impact on your life. Right now is a great time of the year to work on stress management skills
and be ready for when the stress deluge comes (exams).
Stress can be mild or intense, and it can make people feel frustrated, anxious and even
hostile. Ever been grumpy because of stress? There you go. Stress can get in the way of
sleep, cause headaches and change your appetite. It can also reduce your ability to
concentrate and make it harder to remember course content.
ReachOut has lots of fact sheets and practical tools for beating stress. Here are a few:
• All work and no play? Bad idea. Make time every week to completely
forget about study and do something you enjoy, like playing sport, hanging
out with friends or watching TV. Taking regular breaks and 'me-time' to clear
your head will also help you study more productively:
au.reachout.com/takingregular-me-time
• Feel like you're not achieving what you're capable of? Sit down and set
goals at the beginning of each term. Define your goal, set sub-goals and
make a plan of action. Then you'll know what you're aiming for and it'll be
easier to stay focused: au.reachout.com/how-to-set-goals
• When you're feeling stressed, it helps to have a proven strategy lined up to
help you deal with it. It could be something like reducing the number of
commitments you have, telling a close friend you're stressed and talking
through it, or even using positive self-talk strategies: au.reachout.com/building-better-coping-skills
Sometimes it might feel like stress is unbeatable, but it's definitely manageable. For more
info on keeping it in control, check out these fact sheets on ReachOut.com:
