    Tacoma Miniature Guild:

Our club project over the course of this year is a

general store in a box room. We began it last month

with the makings for several general store fixtures.

Earlier, at the August picnic in order to get a start

on the project all the members of our group had

received the pieces to put together the main cash

register counter. The pieces were cut out by David

Manny before he and Nancy left for the winter in

Texas. We all worked on the counter at the

September meeting and planned for further items

for the general store. Also we received pieces for a

simple bench for the customers cut out by Mardy

Jacobson. Mardy is also cutting out the pieces to

make the basic room box that will be the general

store setting and will bring the floor piece to the

October meeting so we can plan for what kind of

    surface we want to install.

Additionally, October 4, Charmayne Tubig will

bring makings for the merchandising accessories to

go on the counter, such as a receipt spindle and cash

box. Earlier Charmayne had brought little glass jars

with stoppers which originally held decorations for

fingernails. We coated decorative string with glue to

stiffen it, and cut it into lengths to make miniature

peppermint sticks to fill the glass jars.

At the November meeting Gary Graves will be

bringing shelf pieces for each group member that he

has cut out and fitted together to make shelves for

the general store. Future plans include making a

variety of canned goods, notions, small tools, toys

and other items commonly found in general stores,

so lots of shelf space will be needed.

This brings us to the holiday season where our

group will celebrate the season with a dinner at

Elmer’s Restaurant and a gift exchange along with a

drawing for a Michael’s gift card.

Winners at the Western Washington Fair

Between the three of them, Hazel Jeffords, Robin

Barnes and Gary Graves brought home

seven first place ribbons from the Washington State

    Fair.

Gary entered a beautifully crafted library table for

which he won a first place ribbon.

The table has perfectly dovetailed drawers and hand

    forged hardware.

Hazel entered an Alice in Wonderland scene set in a

book, a beautiful needlepoint nursery rug,

a fireworks stand, a beach scene and an English

    cottage.

Robin created a tiny stuffed mouse, a striped silk

chair, and a rustic cherry pie. Other items she

entered included a Peter Cottontail in a

wheelbarrow filled with carrots and cabbage, which

    was

her first attempt at vegetables, a trunk for toys that

was a club project, and a kit called "Soup and

    Ladle."

Robin's entries also included two vignettes: an

antique stall and a beach scene set in a small sand

    pail.

    Portland Lilliput Miniature Club

The Portland Lilliputs have had a busy and fun-

filled summer. In May four of our members

attended the Oregon State Day in Central Point

where they made a ¼” storybook cottage with

landscaping. Each person chose their story and

    decorated inside and out accordingly.

In July six of us attended a Garden Tea &

Dollhouse Miniatures Tour in Eugene at the home

of Mary Hartig owner and creator of most of the

miniature display. The weather was perfect for the

lovely tea in her backyard with flowers and

shrubbery to enjoy while enjoying scones, salad,

sandwiches and a delicious dessert. We then began

our tour of her miniature collection of over 40

delightful dollhouses, shops and room box scenes

with many wonderful miniature pieces. She related

interesting points of each one as we moved along.

It was a very enjoyable day.

Also in July we attended the annual “Cracked Pots”

Show at Edgefield in Troutdale, east of Portland.

We had lunch and then walked around the grounds

full of vendors displaying and selling things they

have made using all recycled materials. (i.e.

Earrings cut from credit cards, yard art from dishes,

kitchen items and all kinds of metal objects) It was

fascinating to see what can be done with all kinds of

    recycled materials.

In August we visited Country Store Miniatures in

Vancouver and had a great time shopping. We then

enjoyed lunch at a Hawaiian Restaurant downtown.

At the end of August we also helped John and Judy

Lancaster (one of our members) celebrate their 50th

wedding anniversary at the Stockpot Restaurant in

    Beaverton.

When we’re not partying, we’re getting ready for

the National in 2016 in Seattle, working on tote bag

favors and table gifts and even some of our own

    projects.

We also enjoyed the Portland Miniature Show in

September and were pleased to see several new

dealers from out of state as well as local. The

exhibits were wonderful and member Pam Teal won

2nd place on her fabulous all black and white room

    box.

and a Peoples choice ribbon. Ella Dean Chaumell won a

Second Place on her Sweet Shop and a Third on her

Arch. Bobbi Hargett won First Place on her Bakery.

Nancy Klitus won a Third place on her Pet Shop. Patsy

Price displayed her Oriental Tea room and her Mermaid.

The Tea room won a Second Place ribbon and the

Mermaid won a third. She also had a regular sized

painting displayed in the Fine Arts that won Honorable

mention. Deb Randolph won Second Place and Peoples

choice on her Fish Shack. Donna Vaughn won a Second

Place ribbon on her Beach House. Jan Larimore won a

Award on her Gypsy Caravan, and third place for her

containers, including tea kettles and coffee pots.

We look forward to showing our projects in the

we have done a series of how-to projects during

club meetings such as making kitchen items from

directions by Joann Swanson in her book

"Grandma's Kitchen." We also completed some kits

    EVENT NEWS

This September 7 was the first of what will,

hopefully, be an annual miniature experience on the

beach in West Seattle. Sandi Bender sponsored a

mini show at the Alki Beach Bath House across the

street from her shop. There were 7 vendors, free

make and takes for kids, swaps, and even free ice

cream vouchers with purchase at the Alki beach

Miniature Shop. The day was beautiful, and many

people, miniaturists and non, wandered in to see,

buy, and participate in the mini activities we all

enjoy. Sandi is scheduling this again for next year,

September 5. If you would like to be a vendor at the
