Preface
SAP SETS THE STANDARD FOR NEXT-GENERATION ERP SOFTWAREThe Internet wave in the mid-1990s began to change the way organizations operate. Today, our
customers have to handle processes from end to end, going far beyond the boundaries of their
enterprises. Suppliers have become an integral part of the value chain, and customer needs are
important drivers of product development. To meet the demands of this new environment,
SAP has developed a next-generation enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution: mySAP™ ERP.
With mySAP ERP, SAP provides ERP software that supports all core business processes, ensures their
completion in real time, and offers the kind of technology that keeps our customers moving forward
now and in the years to come. Because it is built on Enterprise Services Architecture, the SAP®
blueprint for service-oriented business solutions, mySAP ERP also represents an important mile-
stone in SAP history. Since the 1970s, SAP has been at the forefront of major technology shifts –
from mainframe computing to client-server technology and now from client-server technology
to a service-oriented architecture.
Service-oriented architectures are launching a new era in information technology. The service-oriented
paradigm presupposes technological innovations that will affect all enterprise applications in the immedi-
ate future. And SAP, one of the leading vendors of business software, has long been concerned with the
question of how IT will look in the future and how it can be supported through the current transition. 12
Experience shows that the decision to implement mySAP ERP is driven primarily by an organi-
zation’s need to enhance the productivity of its workforce and to make better use of operational
data, for example, by using it to steer the organization and to measure performance. mySAP ERP
helps our customers to:
• Further drive efficiency for bottom-line growth
• Extend the scope of their business processes to suppliers, partners, and customers to bring
high-quality, value-added products and services to market faster than the competition,
fostering differentiation and top-line growth
• Sense changing market and customer requirements in real time and refine their strategies
and activities accordingly by providing executives and managers with strategic business insight
• Achieve the flexibility to act today by providing a single open platform for supporting their
business processes and by leveraging their existing system landscape
These capabilities help SAP customers serve their markets and customers more efficiently and
effectively, as well as achieve operational excellence. The proof is in our customers’ success.

With the mySAP™ ERP solution, SAP extended the core functions in the areas of finance
and invoicing, personnel administration, and logistics and added helpful new capabilities.
mySAP ERP earns the title “ERP solution of the next generation” because of what it delivers:

that empowers you to improve financial forecasts, align corporate strategy with business
operations, and enhance the overall decision-making process.
• You can access real-time business information across all business activities and provide insight
to all managers at the level of detail required, resulting in streamlined internal and external
reporting.
• With mySAP ERP, core processes reach a new stage of cross-enterprise integration, which helps
to improve productivity and operational excellence.
• mySAP ERP also helps you comply with rules and regulations, including the Sarbanes-Oxley
Act, harmonization of International Accounting Standards (IAS) and Generally Accepted
Accounting Principles (GAAP), Basel II, and fast-close principles.
