MyOcean2 Annual Operation Review # 1 Cork, 16-17 April 2013
A deep internal involvement
• A improved decision process:– The Executive Committee Bureau (ECB: Marina, Sylvie,
Bruce, Alistair, Vincent, Joël):• Analyses the issues to be submitted to the Executive Committee ->
technical dossiers, preliminary trade-offs• Proposes decisions for the Exec. Com.• Avoids useless preliminary discussions• Some Examples: V3 and V4 requirements, WMS for all products,
without authentication, Surface fluxes in reanalyses, Wave parameters , Hindcast definition, Major accounts and Specific Core Products, Merging PUMS and QuIDs, AOR organisation
– Work structured and coordinated by cross-cutting work packages
– A more mature way of working (within the Executive Committee):
• Well known decision processes• Clear roles and responsibilities
MyOcean2 Annual Operation Review # 1 Cork, 16-17 April 2013
A deep internal involvement
• Specific internal work about requirements (for V3 and V4:– In depth analysis of MyOcean status and outputs– Internal consultation at the start of the project (from Kick-
Off to June 2012 in Barcelona): significant and relevant feedback from WP leaders
– A lot of important decisions taken quite quickly at the Barcelona Executive Committee meeting: user profiles, visualization, Authenticated FTP, archiving, priorities for the CIS, internal interfaces and data flows, etc…
– Same process used for evolutions and other decisions (Toulouse and Madrid Exex. Comm. Meetings).
• Preparation of the MyOcean PDR at T0+3 and T0+6 (while it was T0 + 12 in MyOcean).

MyOcean2 Annual Operation Review # 1 Cork, 16-17 April 2013
Other important events• MyOcean Science Days: November 2012
– Strong participation (120 people, many projects)– Observational systems, Numerical modelling, Data assimilation, validation and user related
issues– Outcomes relevant to the next phase but also to the long term operational oceanography R&D
roadmap
• MyOcean User Workshop: April 2013– Good participation– Plenary and splinter sessions and discussions– Final Round table– Main outcomes:
• actions to be decided wrt MSFD applications and users, • Expected reinforcement of the link with the downstream services (end to end value chain), • consolidation for a long term and sustainable Marine Service• More frequent or coordinated User workshops
• ECOMF Strategic partnership: the Nicosia declaration:– defines an ECOMF Strategic Partnership between the “national” institutions that deliver data
and predictions to their national or local authorities and ECOMF

MyOcean2 Annual Operation Review # 1 Cork, 16-17 April 2013
Next steps
• Main activity: preparation of V4:– Final MyOcean Service version, to be operated 6
months during the project (April 2014 – Sep. 2014)– Intermediate versions for new products or system
functions (CIS) will be defined
• Reporting of the first period (May 2013)• Preparation of the post-MyOcean2 phase in
the frame of Copernicus: ECOMF
MyOcean2 Annual Operation Review # 1 Cork, 16-17 April 2013
Some challenges in the year to come
• Internal:– Involvement, reactivity, acting as a single entity: still needs strong
efforts: not an easy task, given the size and the structure of the project– Reduce delays in each delivery or contribution: this is one major issue
(example: integration and transition phases)– Keep enthusiasm in our “daily” tasks: this not the end of the story, but
the beginning!– Maintain our Service and System State-of-the-Art, well integrated
• Internal & External:– Prepare, develop and deliver V4 (and intermediate versions)– Take new user requirements into account (from UWS in particular)
• External:– Engage even more the users in the Service, downstream sector– Maintain and develop relationships with main providers (Space,
InSitu), European Agencies, main stakeholders– Be prepared to ECOMF... MyOcean 2 project to prepare a sustained,
Service
