The potential of Mygale’s Formula 3 chassis has been proven with a string of stunning results in the hands of Cameron Waters during the Darwin round of the Australian Driver’s Championship.

In an impressive F3 debut, Waters brought the Mygale M-07 home in fourth during race one, giving the French constructor its best ever finish in Australian Formula 3.

Waters made a lightning start from sixth on the grid and used his experience and racecraft to slip around the outside and into the top four – challenging former champion James Winslow for third before settling into the 12 lap race.

From there he held off the advances of Jordan Skinner and Steel Giuliana to open his F3 account just one position off the podium.

It was an enthralling battle for fourth, fifth and sixth positions with a couple of seconds covering the trio as the chequered flag fell.

Waters repeated the fourth place result in race three but took Mygale’s first Formula 3 podium in Australia during race two of the City of Darwin Cup meeting.

Water’s podium finish in race two is the first time in the history of the Formula 3 Australian Driver’s Championship that

any car other than a Dallara has featured in a podium position.

Despite limited testing and development miles, and with Waters competing in his first Formula 3 meeting, the Mygale proved ultra-competitive and lapped at a pace comparable to the championship leaders.

“We’ve proved that we have a car that is more than competitive,” said Mygale’s Greg Woodrow.

“The car has had less than two days of testing and Cam only had one day in the car before we rolled it out here in Darwin.“There’s plenty left in the car and we’re

And the Mygale boss was full of praise for the job Waters, the 2011 Formula Ford Champion, had done in the drivers seat.

“We’ve worked with a lot of young drivers over the last few years and Cam is right up with the best of them.

“The job he did this weekend was impeccable, we couldn’t be happier with him.”

Mygale took its third straight Australian Formula Ford Championship Round of 2012 after Minda Motorsport’s Jack LeBrocq completed a dominant display at Victoria’s Phillip Island circuit today.

After qualifying on pole position and finishing third in the first race of the weekend on Saturday,

Le Brocq won both the second and third races, and heads to Townsville with a four point advantage in the points standings.

The Sunday morning heat was held in wet conditions, which saw a succession of race leaders slip off the edge of the circuit.

Le Brocq managed to bounce back from his own moment to cement the win on a greasy and very inconsistent Phillip Island track surface.

The finale was held under bright skies,

with Le Brocq able to clear out from the squabbling pack.

For the Minda Motorsports/CAMS Rising Star driver the Phillip Island round was a return to form after a trying round at Symmons Plains.

“It’s really good to get up for the win this weekend in the various weather conditions,” Le Brocq said.

“Fortunately in the third race the rear tyres didn’t go away like in the first, and I was able to get a gap on the field.

“We had a shocker at Symmons Plains, but we’re looking pretty good again.

“To come away from the weekend with the championship lead, I couldn’t possibly be happier.”

Sonic Motor Racing Services Mygale driver Garry Jacobson ended up with a

second, third and fourth for the round to finish third for the round and now sits third in the Championship standings.

LeBrocq’s Minda Motorsport/CAMS Rising Stars team mate Macualey Jones had a breakout meeting, qualifying in second before finishing with a fourth, fifth and sixth for the weekend. He now moves up to fifth in the championship.

Mygale Dominant at the Island

Macauley Jones, son of Australian motorsport legend Brad Jones, has been thrown into the deep end of the Australian Formula Ford Championship in 2012, but is riding a wave of confidence coming in to the fourth round of the season in Townsville.

After a prolific career in go karting, Jones made his circuit racing debut a week before the season opening Australian Grand Prix round, with a full schedule of national and state level Formula Ford racing rapidly aiding his advancement.

Island, where he qualified his Mygale in second position, before racing to fifth overall for the weekend, the same position he holds down in the points standings.

Driving for the CAMS Rising Stars/Minda Motorsport outfit, Jones’s development has been aided by his team mate Jack Le Brocq, who heads the title chase after winning two of the first three rounds.

For Jones, this team support is coupled with the guidance from his racing family, which includes uncle Kim Jones, and cousin Andrew Jones, who is competing in the Dunlop V8 Supercar Series.

“With the team atmosphere, everyone

has been so helpful this season, I’m still learning a lot with every outing,” Jones said.

“My family have definitely been a big help, especially coming to all of these new tracks, it really shortens the learning curve.

“Also having Jack as a team mate is a massive advantage, he’s a front runner, and being able to ask him questions makes it easier to jump up to his level. He challenges me to improve, and it’s paying off.”

While Jones admits that Phillip Island was a turning point in his season, he still faces

plenty of challenges to make the step to the next level and consistently threaten the frontrunners.

“It was a bit surprising to be honest. I came in at the end of the (qualifying) session and was able to get second on the very last lap,” Jones said.

“I was really happy; it was my third ever National round, and definitely the highlight for me so far.

“The thing I need to work on is my starts. I can qualify with the front running guys, but the next thing I need to be doing is regularly racing with them.

The two chassis battle in this year’s Australian Formula Ford Championship has continued to be dominated by Mygale, with Minda Motorsport driver Jack LeBrocq taking a clean sweep of Round Four of the Championship in Townsville last weekend.

The CAMS Rising Star driver, a member of the FIA Institute’s Young Driver Academy, took victory in all three races at the Townsville circuit to make it four rounds from four for Mygale – but it was far from plain sailing for his main rivals.

The Sonic Motor Racing Services team had a busy weekend, with both Garry Jacobson and Rhett Noonan finding the concrete walls of the Townsville circuit. Jacobson was ruled out of the remainder of the weekend after being an innocent party in somebody else’s incident during Race One, his Mygale ending upside down and too badly damaged to be repaired in time for the remainder of the weekend.

The same Race One incident also eliminated Noonan, with his car momentarily catching fire. The Sonic

crew were able to repair his car in time for Race Two, but another incident during Race Three stopped his charge back through the field.

LeBrocq’s Minda Motorsport/CAMS Rising Star teammate Macauley Jones was another to suffer from an up and down weekend. After a solid start, when he finished third in Race One and fifth in Race Two, Jones didn’t make the end of lap One in Race Three after a meeting with the concrete ended his weekend.

LeBrocq consolidates title lead as others strike trouble in the tropicsin an outstanding second place for the weekend, his improvement over the last couple of months has been a talking point and it shouldn’t be a surprise to see him challenging again during the next round in Ipswich.

Anglo Motorsport’s Jonathan Venter took a steady approach over the weekend to bring his Mygale home in fourth for the round, consistency the key to his weekend, while Evans Motorsport Group driver Greg Holloway bounced back to take a pair of top 10 placings after a challenging day on

Saturday when he crashed in qualifying and missed race One while his car was being repaired.

In the championship chase, Le Brocq now sits on 205 points, 41 ahead of Hart, with the luckless Garry Jacobson a further 25 back after scoring no points during the weekend.

The Australian Formula Ford Championship remains in Queensland for the next championship round, which will be at Queensland Raceway on August 3-5.

Venter’s Victorian victoryMygale has taken a clean sweep of the three races held as part of round two of the Victorian Motor Racing Championship at Phillip Island with Anglo Motorsport’s Jonathan Venter completing a dominant weekend.

After qualifying second on the grid in an ultra competitive field the 16 year old Sydney driver took Saturday’s race one in a drag race to the line over round one winner Anton DePasquale and Minda Motorsport driver Todd Hazelwood to complete a Mygale lockout of the podium.

Sunday’s opening race was held on a damp track and many of the leading contenders took trips across the Phillip Island outfield as they were caught out on the slippery surface. In a battle of attrition, Venter survived to lead home Hazelwood, while Sonic Motor Racing Services driver DePasquale held on to finish in fourth.

The final race was held under threatening skies but the weather held off long enough to finish the race in dry conditions. Venter again prevailed, holding off Caleb Rayner for the win, with David Sera on his Formula Ford debut bringing his Minda Motorsport Mygale home in an excellent third position. A last lap slip-up relegated DePasquale to 14th after he had challenged for the win for the majority of the race. Until that point it was a cracker of a race with Venter, DePasquale and Rayner swapping turns at the front of the field for the majority of the 10 lap journey.

Venter takes away the maximum 100 points for the round and assumes the Championship lead on 186 points from Rayner on 183 with DePasquale dropping to third on 143. Mygale drivers have won all six races held so far in this years Victorian series.

Agostini takes victory in Euro F3 SeriesMygale Formula 3 driver Ricardo Agostini has taken another victory for Mygale in Round Four of the Italian F3 Euro series held at the Misano circuit.

Underlining the potential of the Mygale M-10 chassis Agostini finished on the podium in all three races and took a well deserved victory in Race Three of the weekend. It is the rookie driver’s second victory in the hard-fought championship

In the European Series standings Eddie Cheever Jr (Prema) now leads with 158 points, six more than team mate Brandon Maisano. Agostini (JD Motorsport/Mygale) lies third with 118 points, and is the leader of the rookie classification ahead of Sergey Sirotkin.

Sonic Motor Racing Services rising talent Anton De Pasquale scored a memorable round victory at Sandown Motor Raceway in Round Three of the Victorian Formula Ford Series.

The Werribee whiz-kid notched his second round win in three attempts with an almost flawless run in the Shamick Racing / KTEQ Rentals Mygale at Sandown, impressing Sonic boss Michael Ritter in the process.

“Realistically Anton’s won three from three,” Ritter explains, “it was only a slip up with a pass under a yellow flag that prevented him from having three round wins from as many starts. He’s been very impressive all year so far and his form at Sandown was typical of his speed and his maturity. He’s doing a great job.”

He came back out in Race Two and after a spirited duel with former national series competitor Caleb Rayner he was able to drive on for the victory.

In Race Three for the weekend DePasquale led most of the event until

rain drizzled down and made conditions a little slippery. A slight mistake from the Shamick Racing entry saw him slide off the track but come back to finish second behind the Team BRM Mygale of Simon Hodge.

A first and a second were good enough to secure the overall win and a healthy lead in the championship standings.

Anton DePasquale and Macauley Jones have combined to stretch Mygale’s run of victories in the Victorian Formula Ford Series to 11 during Round Four of the series at Sandown Raceway this weekend.

Sonic Motor Racing Services driver DePasquale took the overall round victory, his third in four rounds, while Minda Motorsports driver Macauley Jones took the first win of his Formula Ford career with a victory in the second of three races held over the weekend.

DePasquale bookended the weekend with victores in Races One and Three, but for Jones it was a case of what may have been, as he greeted the flag first in Race Three only to be handed a penalty for jumping the start which relegated him to 10th place.

This enabled DePasqaule to take the round victory from Anglo Motorsport’s Jonathan Venter, with Simon Hodge and Ash Quiddington tying for third. They were followed by Michael Scott, Jones and Sam Breen making it six Mygale chassis in the top seven positions.

Venter has been a model of consistency over the four rounds held to date. The Anglo Motorsport driver secured second for the meeting and holds a 21 point lead over DePasquale with just one round in the series remaining at Phillip island in October.

Evans Motorsport Group Young Gun Chelsea Angelo recently attended the CAMS Scholarship Camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.

The Melbourne-based 16 year old won her place in the camp after finishing runner-up in the Women of Australian Motorsport Scholarship program and will attend the AIS in early July to be schooled on fitness, diet and psychology to help with her racing exploits.

Although not racing in 2012 Chelsea has been constantly testing with the rest of the Evans team in preparation for a full assault on the Victorian Championship in 2013. Her testing times have been impressive and according to Angelo’s Manager and Team Principal, Josh Evans, her progress has been stunning.

“She’s been very impressive during testing and we’re really looking forward

to continuing Chelsea’s progression over the rest of this year and into the future,” Evans said.

“Her attitude and ability to absorb information during a test session is as good as I have seen from a person of her age.

“Chelsea’s continually in the top 10 drivers during Friday testing at Victorian Championship meetings where there’s fields of 40 plus cars.”

Evans hopes that the scholarship will open some doors for the talented teenager and deliver some corporate support for 2013.

“We’re putting together her program for next year and looking for some funding now, so being selected to participate in the AIS program can only help,” Evans said.

“She’s taken a different route in that she is only testing this year but it’s going to hold her in good stead.

“When she does start racing she’s going to have a great understanding of the car so she will be able to concentrate on racing and not about learning what the car does under different conditions,” he added.

Jacobson puts Mygale’s safety to the testHe may have walked away from the Townsville round of the Australian Formula Ford Championship without a solitary point to add to his total, but Sonic Motor Racing Services driver Garry Jacobson did prove one thing in his dramatic rollover during Race One - the strength and safety of his Mygale chassis

Jacobson was launched in a violent rollover when the car directly in front of him jumped out of gear through the fast sweeper of the Townsville circuit. Left with nowhere to go the Mygale driver ran over the back of the slowing car, and from there all he could do was hang on.

Prior to the incident, Jacobson was sitting only six points off Jack Le Brocq

in the title standings and the Shepparton racer can thank Mygale’s built-in safety structures for keeping him safe during the frightening incident.

“The car in front jumped into neutral, and slowed right down,” Jacobson said.

“I was lining him up for the next corner, and we made contact.

“The Mygale stood up really well, there was some damage that we couldn’t fix at the track (the rollbar was damaged as the car slid down the track) but we got it back to the workshop, tidied everything up and it will be like brand new when we hit the track at the next round.”

“The guys at Sonic have done a great job

to get it all back together with only three weeks between rounds.

“And the safety developments that Mygale have incorporated into the chassis really looked after me and made the car easier to repair.”
