At this speech,Dr. King spoke toabout 30,000 people.

Sixty years ago, many stateswere segregated. Thatmeans that laws kept peopleapart. The laws said that whitepeople and African-Americanpeople had to go to differentschools. They had to usedifferent water fountains.

Buses were segregated too.White people sat in the front,and African-American peoplehad to sit in the back. If awhite person could not find aseat, an African-Americanperson had to give up his orher seat.

Time for a CiiangeDr. Martin Luther King jr.

thought these laws were unfair.He and many other peoplewanted things to change. Theyworked hard to try to end theunfair laws.

Dr. King led protests. Atprotests, many people gather toshow that they do not agreewith something. Dr. King alsogave speeches. He said allpeople should be treated thesame. People listened to him.They wanted things to change.

A Better WorldOver time, states got rid of

the unfair laws. Now ourcountry is integrated. Thatmeans that all people areallowed to be together.

White children and African-American children can go tothe same schools and use thesame water fountains. They cansit together on buses.

Our country has changed alot because of Dr. King's hardwork. Thank you. Dr. King!
