Programs to automate marketing on Twitter were being greatly promoted a few years ago. It was believed that

you could use Twitter as an effective means to build a list of likely buyers for your products or services.

Nonetheless, how much of a bang for your buck do you get from any of these tools that were pushed at us to

improve our gross sales? Exactly how effective is Twitter marketing? This article will examine the case for

becoming involved and to determine if it will actually repay your time and effort.

Like many of you, when all the tools came out to help online marketers build a large Twitter following that you

could promote to, I decided to look into it. I ended up purchasing and programs that would get me followers

and programs that would basically advertise my products for me. Altogether, I think I bought about 8

software programs to help with my Twitter marketing efforts.

The first software I bought allowed me to automatically follow people in the hopes that they would then do the same and follow me. People who were not following me on Twitter would be automatically taken off my follow

list by another program I had paid for. This would enable me to follow various Twitter users once more to get

them to follow me. Some of the software I invested in are not interesting enough to discuss but I will just

mention a useful program that auto-Tweeted any blog posts I made whenever they were published.

I must say that the combined effect of using all these programs together gave great results since each program

did as advertised. I was rapidly brought down to earth when I went over my spreadsheet and realized that I

wasn't actually making any money! I would post to my blog 10 times every day and those blog entries would be

shown directly on Twitter just like they ought to. Believing that more blog entries would increase my blog

traffic, I arranged for my daily blog posts to be made automatically both to my blog and to Twitter too.

Okay, let me share my results: After three years utilizing these Twitter marketing tools, I had amassed almost

10,000 Twitter followers. You'd probably be very happy to have that number of followers, but there's more to

come. Also in the past three years I have had over fifteen thousand of my blog posts that were promoting affiliate

products added to my Twitter account.

And that was the only advertising that I did for that blog, I chose not to even ping the posts to see just what

Twitter could do for me. Well I discovered, in the last 3 years I made 2 affiliate sales for a total of $48, and I

made $8.52 with Adsense. And that particular blog only gets about 2 to 4 visitors daily from Twitter.

Even with nearly 10,000 Twitter followers and using software automation, it seems that this is not sufficient to make money marketing with Twitter. The bottom line is that the money I've pulled in is not enough to cover

the cost of the Twitter tools I paid for to start with. There may be other more successful methods of

marketing on Twitter, but from my experience, using automatic software tools is not one of them.
