Project Objective

Making contribution to the renovation of 10 public libraries annually in Turkey, a total of 50public libraries within 5 years, announcement of renewed services to the users, andresuscitation of inactive libraries towards the needs of locals.

Project Implementing Agencies:

Community Volunteer university students studying at provinces, where My Library Project isimplemented.

Target Mass

Potential library user children, teenagers and adults living in provinces where the Project isapplied.

Contributing to make public libraries valuable research and meeting centers that are rich inresources, and to have them supply services of superior quality.

To increase functionality of libraries, by having public libraries act as a center responding tothe needs of existing and potential users and host cultural-artistic events at locations theyreside in.

B)WORKS PERFORMED IN THE PROJECT

Volunteers, by establishing working plans as per the needs of locations they reside in, carriedout 9 renovation studies at 7 libraries in order to contribute to the restoration of publiclibraries, inform the users about the renewed services, and resuscitate inactive libraries

towards the needs of their respective locations, thereby ensured that the libraries arephysically more useful.

At renovated libraries;

3 music concerts,1 theater event,1 movie screening,16 talks with childrens authors,8 talks about Mevlana,4 seminars, and11 photograph and art exhibitions were held.

140 volunteers took part in those works and more than 10 thousand people utilized theseservices.

1-Bolu Public LibraryObservations about the Library:No problem was found in the physical structure of the library as the library was repaired after17 August earthquake. It has a well-equipped building. It is a two-storey library. Transition tocomputerized automation was delayed due to personnel inadequacy. A mobile library isavailable. The library is close to the city center. It attracts many visitors, but resources are

insufficient, especially at kids section.Activities:

Volunteers who will work at My Library Project implemented at Bolu Public Library weredetermined and regular meetings were held as regards to which activities would be held.Our priorities were determined.

Volunteers started to make data entries to computer automation system which wasoperating ponderously due to personnel inadequacy at the library. In the first month, dataof 2000 books was entered. Works for transition to automation were accelerated.

Celebration Program for 43

rd

Library Week was planned together with library management.

On 30 March 2007, within the scope of celebration of 43rd Library Week; Bilgin Adal,Sleyman Bulut and Nemika Tucu, 3 authors of childrens literature, had talks withchildren during My Library Project Reading Day at the library and the cultural center inthe secondary building of the library. (Simultaneously three authors had talks with childrenin three rooms) These talks were attended by 800 pupils from schools around the library.3rd, 4th and 5th grade pupils, who participated in the Reading Day event, were acquaintedwith the library and renewals at the library; and they were told how to become member ofthe library.

On 5 April 2007, 10 laptop computers donated by Pfizer Community Foundation were sentto the library.

On 18 April 2007, 189 books were donated to the library that were supplied from generalbook donations received by Bankas Cultural Publications, Yap Kredi Publications, BulutPublications, PMP Publishing, Pusula Publishing and Community Volunteers Foundation.Support was provided for technical services for the donated books.

As to be used at events to be carried out on 24 October 2007 at the library, 1 projectordevice and 1 projector screen were purchased through the project budget and conveyed tothe library.

Between 14-17 November 2007, an exhibition was held at Bolu Public Library to display 84photographs that ranked and acquired the right to be exhibited at the photograph contestnamed Are You Aware?, with the theme of Human Rights and Violations, organized byCommunity Volunteers at Istanbul University, Beyazt Campus.

On 28 December 2007, an event titled We are Honoring Mevlana at the Libraries washeld within the scope of My Library Project in parallel with celebrations of UNESCOInternational Mevlana Year and 800th Birthday of Mevlana. Within the scope of the event, atalk about Mevlana was held at the library, and a documentary was screened. Guestsparticipating in the talks were offered Mevlana candies. Between 28 December 2007 and15 January 2008, a photograph-art exhibition about Mevlana was held.

Until December 2007, data entry to automation system was continued. Number of dataentries, which was 2000 at the start of the Project, exceeded 26000 on 31 December 2007by the support of volunteers as well.

On 31 December 2007, 570 books were donated to the library. On 31 December 2007, 5 units of chess game set and 1 scrabble game were donated to

the library.

2- Denizli Public Library:

Observations about the Library:

The library has a well kept three-storey building. Building is well-equipped. A book lendingcounter special to adults performs currently well at the entrance of the library. There seems tobe no problem other than need for renovation of kids room, assigning an independent room forInternet, and supplying new books for kids room.

Activities:

Volunteers were determined to work at My Library Project implemented at Denizli PublicLibrary, and regular meetings were held as regards works to be implemented in thelibrary. Priorities were determined.

As for the aim of the first period of Project, discussions were performed with stakeholderinstitutions and persons that will provide support to My Library Project. In particular,significant support was provided by Denizli Security Directorate.

On 26-27 December 2006, all resources were supplied from the locals, and kids room ofthe library was painted with the participation of 17 volunteers.

Celebration Program for the 43rd Library Week was planned together with librarymanagement.

On 5 April 2007, 10 laptops computers donated by Pfizer Community Team were sent tothe library.

On 18 April 2007, 110 books were donated to the library that were supplied from generalbook donations received by Bankas Culture Publishing, Yap Kredi Publications, BulutPublications, PMP Publishing, Pusula Publishing and Community Volunteers Foundation.

On 12-13 May 2007, 35 local volunteers with the participation of young CommunityVolunteers from neighboring provinces, performed renovation and painting studies aroundDenizli Public Library within the scope of My Library Project. Physical conditions of interiorparts of the library were improved. Cartoon characters of the kids were drawn at the kidssection. All curtains of the library were replaced, upholsteries of chairs at the kids sectionwere replaced, tables were covered, and 10 thousand books in the library collection wererearranged per their classification numbers.

Periodicals section of the library and the section used as storage for periodicals wereconverted to Internet access room. Donated laptop computers were employed at thissection for the users service.

As to be used at events to be carried out at the library, 1 projector device and 1 projectorscreen were purchased through the project budget and conveyed to the library on 24October 2007.

In Childrens Book Week, a Reading Day was held through 2 sessions with theparticipation of 500 children and authors such as Bilgin Adal , childrens literature author,at Denizli Public Library.

3rd, 4th and 5th grade pupils, who participated in the Reading day Event, were acquaintedwith the library and renewals; and they were told how to become member of the library.

After attending in morning session of the event, the children came with their parent tobecome members of the library in the afternoon.

3- Edirne Public LibraryObservations about the Library:The library has a well kept three-storey building. Although far from the city center, it is quite abusy library due to its vicinity to the schools.It has an events room and an exhibition room. Kids room needs to be supported both

physically and as a book collection.

Activities:

Volunteers were determined to work at My Library Project implemented at Edirne PublicLibrary, and regular meetings were held as regards to the activities in the library. Ourpriorities were determined for the activities in the library.

Support was provided for planning Celebration Program of 43rd Library Week. Posterdesigns for celebrations of Library Week were made by our volunteers.

On 5 April 2007, 10 laptops donated by Pfizer Community Team were sent to the library. On 18 April 2007, 110 books were donated to the library that were supplied from general

book donations received by Bankas Culture Publishing, Yap Kredi Publications, BulutPublications, PMP Publishing, Pusula Publishing and Community Volunteers Foundation.Support was provided for technical services for the donated books.

Between 27-30 April 2007, renovation studies were performed for Edirne Public Library.Kids room of the library was painted. Floor was made coated, costs being met by theproject budget. Kids room was painted by drawing cartoon/funnies characters.

On 14 May 2007, renovated kids room of Edirne Public Library was opened. Openingceremony was attended by Community Volunteers Foundation (CVF) Board Chairmanbrahim Betil, Board Member Civan Cesur, author Bilgin Adal, author Nemika Tucu,

Governor of Edirne Nusret Mirolu, Manager of Edirne Culture and Tourism DepartmentYavuz Ilgaz, and other local protocol officers. The opening ceremony was organized by 15volunteers.

After the opening ceremony, two Reading Days were held with the participation ofchildren and Bilgin Adal and Nemika Tucu, childrens literature authors. 200 pupils from3rd, 4th and 5th grades, who participated in the reading day event, were acquainted withthe library and renewals at the library; and they were told how to become member of thelibrary.


On 28 December 2007, an event titled We are Honoring Mevlana at the Libraries washeld within the scope of My Library Project in parallel with celebrations of UNESCOInternational Mevlana Year and 800th Birthday of Mevlana. Between 28 December 2007 and 15January 2008, a photograph-art exhibition about Mevlana was held. A small exhibitionconsisting of books about Mevlana was held at the Public Library. Mevlana-themedbookmarks were designed, printed, and distributed to exhibition guests and thoseattending in We are Honoring Mevlana at the Libraries event.

On 31 December 2007, 570 books purchased for the library by project budget or providedthrough donation were brought to the library.

4- Izmir Ataturk Public LibraryObservations about the Library:Izmir Ataturk Public Library has two buildings; Blocks A and B. Block A has 3 and block B has 2stories. Sections in block A consist of an Internet room, book lending counter, reading room(research room), periodicals and collection section, foreign languages section, mobile library

service and zcan Yalm Poetry Bookrack section. Sections in block B consist of kids room,room for the visually-impaired and theatre hall. A cafeteria exists at the outside of the library.

Activities:

Volunteers were determined to work at My Library Project implemented at Izmir AtaturkPublic Library, and regular meetings were held as regards to the activities in the library.Division of labor was made for the activities in the library.

Due to official permit problems, our project could start with a delay of 150 days. (InNovember 2006, 19 Ege University Community Volunteers, established the project group;however, the Manager of Culture Department didnt permit the Project to start at thelibrary. As a result of discussions with the Governors Office of Izmir, this problem wassolved.)

On 26 March 2007, at the opening ceremony of 43rd Library Week at Ege University, weparticipated in conferences titled Institutional Archives and Unrestricted Access and

Library and Librarian through History, and My Library Project was introduced.

On 2 April 2007, as a result of discussions with Izmir Main Office of Applied SciencesCenter, they accepted to print the library promotion brochures at their own printing house.8000 library promotion brochures were printed. Printed brochures were distributed formpromotion during library events and other events.

On 5 April 2007, 10 laptops donated by Pfizer Community Team were sent to the library. On 12-14 April 2007, a stand was built for promotion of the project by Ege University My

Library Project Volunteers that participated in Educaturk Education Fair, which was heldin Izmir. Guests at the fair were informed about the project.


The theatre company of Ege University Textile Engineering Department, staged a playSincap Sinsin at kids section of our library on 20 April 2007. 20 pupils from neighboringschools enjoyed watching the play.

On 26 April 2007, Ege University My Library Project held an event titled Yoga andHuman Health by the introduction of Hakan nc, expert in this field, at Izmir AtaturkPublic Library. 15 persons participated in the event organized by 10 volunteers.

Between 21-29 April 2007, at Izmir TYAP Book Fair, a stand was built for promotion ofCVF and My Library Project by the support of Ege University My Library Project team andother Community Volunteers groups in Izmir. Guests at the fair were informed about theproject. Discussions were held with publishing houses, authors and other NGOs.

On 5-6 May 2007, volunteers from Community Volunteer groups studying at otheruniversities in Izmir together with the participation of volunteers from Manisa and Denizli

My Library Project teams, performed painting of the adults section, reading rooms,entrance of adults section, and kids room of the library. Shelves of the library were

painted. Entrance of kids room was painted by drawing fiction and cartoon characters.Books at the kids section were rearranged. 50 volunteers participated in these works.

On 10 May 2007, a photograph exhibition titled Book and Human Being was opened bythe cooperation of My Library Project and Ege University Photography Club. Opening ofphotograph exhibition titled Book and Human Being was realized with the participation of

Community Volunteers Foundation Board Chairman brahim Betil, Community VolunteersFoundation General Director Yusuf Gven and Izmir Ataturk Public Library Manager TalatAydilek.

On 14 May 2007, a seminar titled Motivation, Rapid Reading, Confidence and Successtowards pupils of OKS examination was held by the introduction of Serkan zkan, anexpert of personal development. 108 persons participated in the event.

On 15 May 2007, a seminar titled Motivation, Rapid Reading, Confidence and Successtowards pupils of SS examination was held by the introduction of Serkan zkan, anexpert of personal development. 108 persons participated in the event.

On 17 May 2007, a seminar titled Effective Communication with NLP, Confidence andSuccess was held by the introduction of Serkan zkan, an expert of personaldevelopment. 91 persons participated in the event.

On 23 May 2007, books collected by Ataturk High School for My Library Project werereceived and submitted to the library.


On 15 November 2007, a talk was made with Bilgin Adal, childrens literature author,within the scope of Childrens Week. It was held in two sessions. First session was held

with 4th grade pupils, and the second with 6th grade pupils. Before the talk, 4th and 6thgrade pupils were toured through the library, and they were told how to become memberof the library. In total 300 persons were reached with this event.

Between 12-19 December 2007, an exhibition was held at the library to display 84photographs ranked, and introduce those that acquired exhibition right, at the photographcontest that was named Are You Aware?, themed Human Rights and Violations, andorganized by young Community Volunteers that are studying at Istanbul University,Beyazt Campus.

On 13 December 2007, an event titled We are Honoring Mevlana at the Libraries washeld within the scope of My Library Project in parallel with celebrations of UNESCOInternational Mevlana Year and 800th Birthday of Mevlana.Within the scope of the event, atalk about Mevlana was held with Prof. Dr. Orhan Terziolu at the library, a nay concertwas held, and a documentary was displayed. Guests participating in the talk were offeredMevlana candies. In total 180 persons were reached with this event.

On 31 December 2007, 570 books, purchased for the library by project budget or providedthrough donation, were brought to the library.

On 31 December 2007, 5 chess game sets and 1 scrabble game were donated to thelibrary.

5- Kahramanmara Karacaolan Public LibraryObservations about the Library:Since the library was under alterative works performed by the Ministry, it wasnt suitable forthe use of readers for a quite long time. Due to rapid growth of the city, the library was left farfrom the city center. Thanks to well-operating libraries of the Municipality, the library has now

fewer loads.

Activities:

Volunteers were determined to work at My Library Project implemented atKahramanmara Karacaolan Public Library, and regular meetings were held as regards tothe activities in the library.Division of labor was made for the activities in the library.

Due to alterations in the library, studies could not be started for a long time. Alterativeworks were supported. Transfer and cleaning of the library were supported.

On 5 April 2007, 10 laptops donated by Pfizer Community Team were sent to the library.Computes were started to be used for data entry to automation system of the library andfor technical services.



On 13 December 2007, an event titled We are Honoring Mevlana at the Libraries washeld within the scope of My Library Project in parallel with celebrations of UNESCO

International Mevlana Year and 800th Birthday of Mevlana. Within the scope of the event, atalk about Mevlana was held at the library, and a documentary projection was displayed.Guests participating in the talk were offered Mevlana candies. Between 13-20 December2007, a photograph-art exhibition about Mevlana was held.

On 29-30 December 2007, worn and torn tables and chairs in the kids room were alteredand renewed. Curtains of the kids room were replaced with kids curtains on which cartooncharacters are drawn. Walls of the kids room were colorfully painted by CommunityVolunteers and pictures loved by the children were drawn. Kids section was converted to anice and friendly place that will catch attention of the children.

6- Kars Public LibraryObservations about the Library:Exterior appearance of the library makes it repulsive. Physical improvements are necessary.Kids section and events room of the library need to be preferentially taken up duringrenovation.

Activities:

Volunteers were determined to work at My Library Project implemented at Kars PublicLibrary, and regular meetings were held as regards to the activities in the library. Divisionof labor was made for the activities in the library.

On 5 April 2007, 10 laptops donated by Pfizer Community Team were sent to the library.Laptop computes were started to be used for data entrance to automation system of thelibrary and for technical services.


On 19-20 May 2007, physical renovation of kids room of Kars Public Library wasperformed. Kids section was made ready to use with its new condition. Books donated tothe library were recorded into inventory.


On 6 November 2007, painting of kids room of Kars Public Library was performed. Wallsof kids section were embellished with lovable characters of kids. Assistance was supplied

from art teacher, Sleyman Aydodu, during illustrative works.

On 8 November 2007, an SS Studying Room equipped with SS preparative books wasestablished for pupils getting prepared to university entrance examinations. The room waspainted, illustrated and cleaned. Assistance was supplied from art teacher, SleymanAydodu, during illustrative works. During establishing this room, 157 donated SSpreparative books brought to CVF were used.

On 26 November 2007, an event was held for opening the established SS room. An SStest examination was performed during the event. Teenagers that utilize the room foundthe opportunity to share with the project team their thoughts about the new room.

During December 2007, discussions and application for permission were made in order toorganize an event titled We are Honoring Mevlana at the Libraries within the scope ofMy Library Project in parallel with celebrations of UNESCO International Mevlana Year and800th Birthday of Mevlana. The Governors Office refused to give permission for this study.

Between 11-19 December 2007, a photograph-art exhibition about Mevlana was held. On 31 December 2007, 570 books were donated to the library. On 31 December 2007, 5 chess game sets and 1 scrabble game were donated to the

library.

7- Samsun 19 Mays County Public LibraryAs a result of our efforts in 2006 at Samsun Gazi Public Library and in 2007 at Samsun19 Mays County Public Library, we had talks with Samsun Special ProvincialAdministration Development Office connected to the Governors Office of Samsun. Atthe end of discussions, it was decided to perform modernization of 13 county public

libraries around Samsun by Community Volunteers who implemented My LibraryProject in Samsun. For these works, Samsun Special Provincial AdministrationDevelopment Office provided the fund. In November 2007, modernization of Kavak andLadik county public libraries was completed.

Observations about the Library:The library is located in Samsun 19 Mays district, at a place with a sport club on the lowerfloor which is not convenient for being a library building. Book collection is insufficient andnumber of members is low. There is no personnel of the Ministry. The library has oneemployee appointed by the municipality.

Activities:

Volunteers were determined to work at My Library Project implemented at Samsun 19Mays County Public Library, and regular meetings were held as regards to the activities inthe library. Division of labor was made for the activities in the library. The priority wasgiven to change the current location of the library. Discussions were commencedaccordingly.

On 5 April 2007, 10 laptops donated by Pfizer Community Team were sent to the library.Laptop computes were started to be used for data entry to automation system of thelibrary and for technical services. The library had no computer. Internet connection wasprovided and an Internet room will be established.


On 16 May 2007, discussions were made with the Mayor, Ylmaz Erel, the District Governorof Engiz, Mehmet Fatih Geyim for the finalization of new locations. At the end of thesediscussions, it was decided to transfer the library to the old building of the municipality,and to adjust the new place for the library.

On 28 May 2007, feasibility studies for the old city hall were started. Fundraising startedafter the needs were determined. Works progressed by supports supplied by the locals.

On 4 June 2007, discussions were made with 19 Maysllar Association President HamzaAydn, the District Governor and the Mayor. At the end of discussions, it was promised toprovide material and physical support for transfer and renovation of the library.

On 9 June 2007, 40 volunteers participated to initiate the works in 19 May s District. Booksat the former place of the library were sorted, wiped and packaged, and the shelves,tables and chairs were cleaned. The other team performed scraping and painting of kidsroom, Internet room, and studying-reading room of our library. Studying room andInternet room were painted. 20 volunteers continued the work on 10 June 2007. Worksremained from the day before were completed. Kids section was painted with cartooncharacters of the kids. Shelves, tables, chairs and packaged books at the old library weretransferred to the new one via a vehicle provided by 19 May s Municipality.

On 1 August 2007, the works that remained incomplete on 9-10 June 2007 werecompleted. With the participation of Community Volunteers that have made contribution toSamsun Mikro Kredi Seasonal Summer Project, the shelves were mounted, books wereplaced, final cleaning was performed, and the library was made ready for use.

8-Sivas Public Library

Observations about the Library:

The library is at the city center and intensely used. It has no special place for events.

Transfer of the library to another building is on the agenda. Due to its old-style structure,physical changes cannot be made. Event-based works are more applicable to the library.

Activities:

Volunteers were determined to work at My Library Project implemented at Sivas PublicLibrary, and regular meetings were held as regards to the activities in the library. Divisionof labor was made for the activities in the library.

Celebration Program for 43rd Library Week was planned together with library management. A concert was held by the local troubadours (Contest of Poetic Repartee) in March in

Library Week at the library.

On 5 April 2007, 10 laptops donated by Pfizer Community Team were sent to the library. On 18 April 2007, 275 books were donated to the library that were supplied from general

book donations received by Bankas Culture Publishing, Yap Kredi Publications, BulutPublications, PMP Publishing, Pusula Publishing and Community Volunteers Foundation.

On 23 April 2007, in National Hegemony and Childrens Day, My Library Project ReadingFestival was held at the library. Reading Festival met 100 children with Sleyman Bulut,Bilgin Adal and Nemika Tucu, childrens literature authors, in various events. Childrenattending in the event were informed of library use and membership.


On 16 December 2007, an event titled We are Honoring Mevlana at the Libraries washeld within the scope of My Library Project in parallel with celebrations of UNESCOInternational Mevlana Year and 800th Birthday of Mevlana. Within the scope of the event,a talk about Mevlana was held at the library, and a documentary projection was displayed.Guests participating in the talk were offered Mevlana candies. On 16-25 December 2007, aphotograph-art exhibition about Mevlana was held.

9- Van Public LibraryObservations about the Library:

The library has a well kept two-storey building. Book shelves at the kids room of the libraryare messy. Most significant challenge is the renovation of the kids section and establishing a

rich collection for children. Additionally, automation stands as another problem for the library.

Activities:

Volunteers were determined to work at My Library Project implemented at Van PublicLibrary, and regular meetings were held as regards to the activities in the library. Divisionof labor was made for the activities in the library.

On 5 April 2007, 10 laptop computers donated by Pfizer Community Team were sent to thelibrary.

On 6 April 2007, My Library Project commencement festival was held at the garden ofVan Public Library. 500 children participated in the event organized by 30 volunteers.Sleyman Bulut, childrens literature author, made a talk with children at the library.Those attended in the festival were acquainted with the project and the library; and thechildren were told how to become member of the library.


On 12 May and 19 May 2007, Yznc Yl University Community Volunteers Foundationperformed a Local Attack at Van Public Library. Within the scope of the attack, kidssection and the library room was painted, covered with plasterboard, physically renovatedand cleaned generally. All curtains of the library were replaced. 10 donated laptop

computers were commissioned. Computer tables and chairs were provided. Medicine chestof the library was constituted and its materials were supplied.

On 1 June 2007, opening of renovation studies at the library and project festival were heldat the garden of the library. 28 volunteers participated in the festival. Local music groupamused the attendants at the festival. Bilgin Adal, author, made two session of talk with400 children attending in the festival. Fruit juices and cakes supplied by the localattendants were offered at the festival.

As to be used at events to be carried out on 24 October 2007 at the library, 1 projectordevice, 1 projector screen and 2 printers were purchased through the project budget andconveyed to the library.

Between November 7th and 13th 2007, an exhibition was held at Van Public Library todisplay 84 photographs that ranked and acquired the right to be exhibited at thephotograph contest that was named Are You Aware?, themed Human Rights andViolations, and organized by young Community Volunteers that are studying at IstanbulUniversity, Beyazt Campus.

On 15 December 2007, an event titled We are Honoring Mevlana at the Libraries washeld within the scope of My Library Project in parallel with celebrations of UNESCOInternational Mevlana Year and 800th Birthday of Mevlana. Within the scope of the event,a talk about Mevlana was held at the library, a nay concert was held, and a documentaryprojection was displayed. 10- Zonguldak Public LibraryObservations about the Library:

Zonguldak Public Library is located in the second and fourth floors of Ataturk Cultural Center.The library does not have an independent building. It is in the same building with Tourism and

Culture Department. Adults room of the library is on the 4th floor of the building. Kids room ison the second floor. Both Internet room and reading room and book lending service arelocated in the same hall of the adults library. The fact that the library does not have anindependent building and its sections are divided reduces the efficiency of the library.

Activities:

Volunteers were determined to work at My Library Project implemented at ZonguldakPublic Library, and regular meetings were held as regards to the activities in the library.Division of labor was made for the activities in the library.

Between 26-30 March, Library Week was celebrated through several events. In front of the Governors Office and at Karaelmas University Amphitheater, an event titled

We Are Reading Books was held as a group in order to emphasize reading habit.

On 26 March 2007, an event of talk and autograph session was held with the author, EsatKorkmaz.

On 5 April 2007, 10 laptop computers donated by Pfizer Community Team were sent to thelibrary.


Along the year, volunteers supplied support to entering book data into automation systemwhich has been kept going by the library personnel.

Between 1-30 May 2007, those that have read the highest number of books wereawarded.


In November and December, projection film, carton and documentary demonstrationswere performed.

On 20 November 2007, a talk was made with Bilgin Adal, childrens literature author,within the scope of Childrens Day. It was held in 4 sessions. 400 children from 2nd, 3rd,4th and 5th classes participated in the sessions. Those participating in the event wereinformed about the library and membership.

On 13 December 2007, an event titled We are Honoring Mevlana at the Libraries washeld within the scope of My Library Project in parallel with celebrations of UNESCOInternational Mevlana Year and 800th Birthday of Mevlana. Within the scope of the event,a talk was held at the library by Zleyha Doan, one of the research assistants of ouruniversity, with title Mesnevi of Mevlana and his understanding of world. A nay concertand documentary projection were performed. Guests participating in the talk were offered

Mevlana candies. 150 persons among high school and university students participated inthe event. A photograph-art exhibition about Mevlana was held at the library.

C) EFFECT AND EVALUATION

Model of measurement of effect on the target groups and the region

Effect on the target groups and the region is measured by observation of the number of booksin the libraries, number of members and increase in the number of guests, by gettingcomments of library personnel, and by surveys of Community Volunteers that execute theworks.

Measurement and evaluation studies are performed towards the following purposes:

NATIONAL MEETINGS:

2 meetings were held in which the decisions were made to implement the project for soundoperation of the project, to gather together the organizations that will implement the project,to evaluate the improvements as regards to the project, and to facilitate the implementation ofthe project.

Evaluation, Transfer and Development Meeting I for My Library Project(24-25 March 2007 Sivas)

On 24-25 March 2007, at Sivas Local Coordination Center of Community VolunteersFoundation, 15 volunteers from Bolu Abant zzet Baysal, Denzili Pamukkale, Edirne Trakya,Izmir Ege, Kahramanmara St mam, Kars Kafkas, Malatya nn, Sakarya, SamsunOndokuz Mays, Sivas Cumhuriyet, anlurfa Harran, Van Yznc Yl, Yozgat Bozok and

Zonguldak Karaelmas universities participated in the meeting.2006 year evaluation was performed by the volunteers in Community Volunteer groups thatimplemented the project in 2006, and experience and know-how was shared. Planning wasmade for works to be realized in the project in 2007.

A session was held on Communication was held by the Head of Communication Department ofCommunity Volunteers Foundation.Creativity session for Library Project studies, and sessions about information transfer to thelocals, sharing of responsibilities, reporting and project roadmap, were conducted.

Evaluation, Transfer and Development Meeting II for My Library Project(18-20 October 2007 Samsun)

Second Evaluation, Transfer and Development Meeting for My Library Project was held inSamsun (Atakum and Taflan) on 18-20 October 2007. The meeting was attended byorganizations that implemented the project during 2006-2007 and will start to implement in2008; and 30 volunteers from 24 organizations, namely Bolu Abant zzet Baysal, DenizliPamukkale, Edirne Trakya, Elaz Frat, Erzurum Ataturk, Eskiehir Anadolu, stanbulGalatasaray, stanbul, Izmir Ege, Kahramanmara St mam, Kars Kafkas, Krehir AhiEvran, Kocaeli, Konya Seluk, Malatya nn, Mula University, Sakarya, Samsun OndokuzMays, Sivas Cumhuriyet, Trabzon Karadeniz Teknik, anlurfa Harran, Van Yznc Yl, YozgatBozok and Zonguldak Karaelmas universities, participated in the meeting.The schedule of the meeting, in which employees at Community Volunteers Foundationparticipated, was planned and implemented by young volunteers that successfully conductedthe project in Samsun in the year before.

At the meeting, first period evaluation of the project, planning of the new period, and know-how and experience transfer to new organizations that will start the project were performed. Asession on Communication was held by the Communication Department Manager ofCommunity Volunteers Foundation. National events were planned for the second period of theproject.

A Photograph Exhibition titled Are You Aware? with Theme of Human Rights andViolations

Photographs ranked at Photograph Contest titled Are You Aware? were started to be exhibitedat the libraries. An exhibition for art-lovers was held at the libraries to display 84 photographsthat ranked and acquired the right to be exhibited at the photograph contest that was named

Are You Aware?, themed Human Rights and Violations, and organized by young CommunityVolunteers that are studying at Istanbul University, Beyazt Campus. Exhibition studies will bekept going in 2008 as well.

Educaturk Education Fair-Izmir

On 12-14 April 2007, a stand was built for promotion of the project by Ege University MyLibrary Project Volunteers that participated in Educaturk Education Fair, which was held in

Izmir. Guests at the fair were informed about the project.

Educaturk Education Fair-Istanbul

Guests that participated in Educaturk Education Fair, which was held in Istanbul between 26-29 April 2007, were informed about the project by Community Volunteers studying at Istanbuland the Communications Department of CVF.

12. Izmir Tyap Book Fair

On 21-29 April 2007, at Izmir TYAP Book Fair, a stand was built for promotion of CVF and My

Library Project by the support of Ege University My Library Project team and otherCommunity Volunteer groups in Izmir. Guests at the fair were informed about the project.Discussions were made with publishing houses, authors and other NGOs.

25. Istanbul Tyap Book Fair

Between 27-31 October 2007, CVF and My Library Project promotion stand was built.Alternate participation of 15 BEK volunteers from Sakarya, Trakya, Abant zzet Baysal, Dicle,Galatasaray, stanbul and Yldz Technical University was ensured to maintain the stand.During the fair, 3500 copies of TOGSES and 6000 copies of BEK promotion brochures andother promotion materials of CVF were distributed. Discussions were made with publishinghouses, authors and other NGOs participating in the fair.

Project Promotion at Seminars of Creative Library Services towards Target Groups,Project Development and Public Relations

At public libraries, by cooperation of Goethe Institute and Turkish Librarians Association,detailed presentations of the project were made to library managers, librarians and librarypersonnel that participated in Regional Seminar titled Creative Library Services towardsTarget Groups, Project Development and Public Relations, as regards to works performed at

My Library Project as a sample project.

These presentations were made to approximately 200 library personnel coming from 43

provinces.
