1. Applying for InternshipIn University of Management and Technology it is a mandatory part of our Bachelor’s degree to do an internship of at least 6 Weeks in any organization, once we have cleared our 6 Semesters.

The main purpose of the internship is to let students practically experience the working environment of any organization and to let them observe and apply what they have actually learned. Apart from experience the students also benefit from getting familiar to the working environment problems and issues that they may also face in their jobs. One of the major parts of this internship is the interview which the organization conduct while recruiting internees. This makes students learn and reduce the ambiguities that almost every student has in his mind related to interviews.

I applied for internship three months before because all the multinational companies start recruiting internees much earlier. I applied in Packages Ltd “Lahore”, CCBPL “Head Office, Lahore” and Bank Alfalah Islamic “Regional Office, Lahore”. I got approval from all the three but find CCBPL as the best option for internship and so started my internship there on July 9, 2012, although after completing my internship there I also had my second internship in Bank Alfalah Islamic “Regional Office, Lahore”.

Through this report I want to share my learning experience at CCBPL “Head Office, Lahore” so other applicants may take help from it.

3. CCBPL IntroductionCCBPL stands for “Coca-Cola Beverages Pakistan Limited.” CCBPL is a part of Coca-Cola Icecek which is the 6th largest KO bottler in the world. CCBPL was established in 1996 to enhance the quality, availability and overall image of the Coca-Cola products in Pakistan.

Coca-Cola International (CCI) owns 48% shares of the CCBPL with management control. Before 1996 all the plants were privately owned by the people but after incorporation of CCBPL it started acquiring those plants. This process of acquiring was completed in 2006 and now the CCBPL holds all the rights of bottling and selling Coca-Cola products in Pakistan.

CCBPL has now 6 plants and 13 warehouses in Pakistan.

8. Tasks Assigned (Main)a) Documenting the Vouchers.b) Filing the Vouchers.c) Passing missing entries.d) Preparing financials to be charged to CCBPL International.e) Markup calculations.f) Charging part of expenses to plants.g) Fixed Assets Verification.h) Visit to Rahim Yar Khan Plant.

a) Documenting the Vouchers:The time I joined CCBPL, there was an audit going on in there. One of the problems that the auditors indicated was the documentation of vouchers. I was provided with a list of all the vouchers issued, from the database. My task was to trace all those vouchers and to print the missing vouchers.

b) Filing the Vouchers:After I traced all the vouchers and printed the missing ones I was then directed to filing those vouchers. I first attached the supporting of all the entries passed, with the voucher and then I got them signed from all the verifying personnel. Finally I filed all the vouchers.

c) Passing missing entries:While printing or categorizing the vouchers I needed to excess to the data base. So in many entries I found data entering issues, which I shared with the data entering personnel and corrected them. Keeping this problem in data entering I was then directed to check all the voucher entries and trigger out the mistakes in them.

d) Preparing financials to be charged to Coca-Cola International:For some departments formed in CCBPL the CCI is also changed a major proportion of the operating expenses because that departments work for their global operations. These departments include SAP department and Internal Audit department.

CCBPL prepares an expense statement related to these departments on monthly basis and charge it to CCI. For my time in there I prepared these statements under the instructions of my supervisor.

e) Markup calculations.CCBPL has opened certain accounts in different banks from which it has approved a certain limit, which it uses to pay off its expenses. The interest charged by the bank on these funds was

on daily basis, so it was needed to be calculated on daily basis that how much the CCBPL is being charged and finally at the month end it was matched with bank figures.

f) Charging part of expenses to plants:All the major expenses related to production were paid by the Head Office. The Head Office then used to charge them to different plants according to their usage. I was provided with the usage data of each plants and I passed the required entries in the accounts for each of the plants.

g) Fixed Assets Verification:In the 5th week of my internship, I was asked to help other internees from fixed assets in completing the verification process going on. For that we visited all offices and verified all accessories, furniture and other appliances, with the list provided to us. The assets which were having no tag were issued a new tag.

h) Visit to Rahim Yar Khan Plant:In the last week of my internship I was sent to Rahim Yar Khan Plant for learning the processes that go on in plants and to help the internees working there on Fixed Assets Verification. The working environment at plant was absolutely different from that of Head Office. The main difference was due to the level of work.

In head office the work was only restricted to documentation but where as in plant the documentation part was 5% of the total activities being performed over there. Working in there cleared the ambiguities built in my mind related to the documents being prepared in head office.

9. ConclusionDuring my 6 Weeks internship over there I was assigned the tasks that I have mentioned above and I was able to complete all my tasks under the supervision of Mr. Ahmad. CCBPL provided a good learning environment for all the internees and were dealt as the part of their organization. Working there, I was able to analyze between what is taught to us and what actually is being practiced in organization.

10. Recommendations The main purpose of the internship, as discussed above is to learn and experience the working environment. Being an internee in any organization doesn’t make you to be considered as their employee. During internship we need to de all types of work activities that are assigned to us although it’s related to preparation of the financials or related to delivering files from one department to another. The internees who set up their minds as they are required to perform every task assigned and will have learning from them will really learn from it but as soon as the internees have a feeling that they are not meant to do what they are assigned to do them there learning process will over and they will be thinking only on to it. So, no matter what type of task is assigned, try to put your best efforts to perform that.
