HELP ME FEEL

PROUD

Cynthia Meadows, supervisor of customer service, and her Saint Louis, MO, delivery unit

showed appreciation to the Olivette’s Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VMF) for meeting the challenge. They made the VMF a poster that read, “Thank you for all you do.” The poster had signatures from everyone at Olivette. Cynthia also purchased doughnuts for the crew. They loved it.

ENGAGEMENT CHAMPION NETWORK

Ohio Valley District Engagement Champion and Postmaster Sheryl Hines says she loves being a part of the engagement team. “We have weekly telecons every Tuesday with great participation. Each area provides its own presentations. We have all the plants: Dayton, Cincinnati and Columbus, and all Manager Post Office Operations (MPOO) groups represented as well. District Manager Jean Lovejoy and Major Plant Manager James Shaffer are directly involved. There are approximately 28 champions involved and the Next Level Connections are emphasized each week,” Hines said. Hines and Postmaster Brad Cass, co-engagement champion leader, said the intent of the telecons and presentations is to share what they do daily and how engagement aligns with that intentional focus. Next Level Connections and one-on-one conversations continue to be their way of ensuring individual employee needs are being met using the 12 elements of engagement. Engagement Leader of the Year for Ohio Valley District and MPOO Kathleen Patrick-Marchi is using the Next Level Connection tool with her direct reports, and is sharing her engagement experiences on the telecons. .

and contribute in a positive manner.

Maude E. White is a part-time flexible clerk at the Oak Hall, VA, Post Office. She has been an employee for 18 years beginning as a Postmaster Relief and has advanced to a career clerk. Maude had opportunities to learn and grow with Officer-in-Charge assignments in Hallwood, VA, and Locustville, VA. As a safety captain, she trains new employees and is affectionately known as the “Postal Mom.” Maude takes great pride in her work and is proud to be one of more than 2,300 employees who have been recognized as an Engagement Most Valuable Player (EMVP) in 2020.

EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION

ENGAGEMENT MOST VALUABLE PLAYER USPS craft employees throughout the country are being recognized as Engagement Most Valuable Players (EMVPs). These bargaining unit employees were nominated by colleagues for fostering enthusiasm, involvement and commitment in their workplaces. Each EMVP honoree receive a lanyard, pin and certificate of appreciation.

The Engagement Most Valuable Player program is open to bargaining unit employees only. It is peer-to-peer recognition for individuals who are involved in, enthusiastic about, committed to their jobs, as well as those who work to promote a positive work environment. Since the EMVP program began in 2017, more than 5,000 employees have received an EMVP certificate, lanyard and pin. The nomination period is open from Nov. 1 until mid-January.

“I believe an engaging leader takes care of his or her people. You must challenge your team to get out of their comfort zone and learn new things. There can be no growth unless employees are challenged to expand their knowledge. I feel a sense of pride when I see how far they can push themselves and have success. The only way to have this kind of engagement is with effective communications and good listening skills. They all have to know their opinions matter and that you value their input.” Dave Emerson Senior Manager, Distribution Operation Minneapolis plant 2019 Northland District Engagement Leader of the Year

ENGAGEMENT LEADER OF THE YEAR (ELOY) The United States Postal Service has established employee engagement as a top priority for the organization. The Engagement Leader of the Year Award recognizes leaders at every level of the Postal Service who have exemplified employee engagement in a management capacity.
