The past two years have been quite turbulent for the global village as the economic situation continues

afflicting more wounds on the financial market. The situation has not only deepened in the under developed

world it has also affected Western countries severely which has resulted in big cuts to reduce their deficits.

The under developed nations face the difficult road ahead and unfortunately in these times of crisis they find

themselves in the most extreme circumstances of surviving.

    wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

    wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwDespite the difficult task that is before us all Minhaj Welfare Foundation has progressed forward in its

attempt to alleviate poverty in the third world. Being one of the leading charities in the UK, MWF has truly

fulfilled its vision of a Worldwide Humanitarian Development organisation. Even in this worrying time MWF

has achieved many of its targets however there is still a long road ahead until it is able to fulfil the

    Millennium Development Goals.

Minhaj Welfare Foundation is grateful to all its donors who have made it possible for it to implement the

vast projects. One of our key ambitions is to convert short term projects and reform them into long term and

sustainable projects for the destitute within the Global village. MWF hopes to continue with its threeprimary projects within the three main areas; Education, Health and Social Welfare. We hope that you will

continue supporting MWF in all its endeavours.

    wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwThe essence of charity work stems from the support and backing of its volunteers who have devoted their

valuable time to help those in need. MWF is grateful to its volunteers who have ensured that a child from

the remote village of Kitere in Kenya has a full time education and the young boy displaced from the troubles

of civil war is in the safety of those who care.

    wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Even in these unprecedented times people have continued to support the needy. MWF would like to invite

you to help in creating a safer and prosperous environment for those less fortunate in the world.

The violence in Kyrgyzstan has left around 200 people

dead, but according to the interim government the figurewas as high as 2000. The victims of the violence were

buried without the authorities being informed.

The Uzbek neighbourhoods in Osh city were particularly

hard hit, homes, shops, offices and even places of worship

were targeted by looters and gunmen, many were burnt

    down.

This led to over 100,000 mostly women and children having

to seek safety over the border in Uzbekistan where refugee

camps were set up and about 400,000 people are currently

    displaced from Kyrgyzstan.

At the moment an uneasy calm still remains in Osh city,

with a curfew in place to deter further violence, the Mayor

and the regional authorities initiated mediation between

the communities. The Uzbek authorities provided food,

    clothing and health care.

5 tonnes of clothing and basic necessities were sent from

the UK of which Farghana Institute in coordination with

Minhaj Welfare Foundation contributed towards this aid.

A massive 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck the Caribbean nationof Haiti in January 2010. The extent of the devastation was so

huge that thousands of people had died in the disaster, leaving

many injured. The earthquake was the worst quake in over two

centuries hitting the south of the capital Port au Prince.

Historically Haiti is not a developed nation; a city filled with

slums and poorly constructed houses which unfortunately could

not withstand the force of the earthquake. According to reports

the aftermath of the earthquake had virtually destroyed

everything including homes, government buildings, offices andhotels. It was estimated that 1 million people were left homeless

with people still living on the slums or in makeshift camps.

MWF initiated an emergency relief for the victims of Haiti

focusing on food, clean water, shelter and medical care. MWF isto focus on self development projects, which will assist those

affected in the long term specifically looking at Health and

Education. MWF is working in partnership with joint emergency

charity forums to ensure the funding is allocated in the key areasof work.

Haiti is considered to be the poorest country in the western

    EMERGE NCY RELIEF | Gaza

It has almost been two years since the conflict

broke out on December 2008 in the Gazaregion. The conflict was described as one of

the bloodiest disasters between the Israelisand the Palestinians since the 1960s.

Thousands lost their lives and many more

were severely injured in this ordeal that lasted

a month. The international community spoke

out against the disaster and launched an

    emergency relief program in Gaza.

Due to limited spaces in the hospitals rooms of

Gaza, many of the patients were transferred to

the Hospitals of Cairo, Egypt. Some people

fled their homes, children were displaced from

parents; people had lost loved ones and theentire state was in turmoil.

Minhaj Welfare Foundation in partnership with

the Palestinian Embassy in Pakistan initiated a

fleet of aid in which blankets, medicalsupplies and food was distributed in therefugee camps. MWF initiated ILM, an

    educational project which sponsored displaced

students to excel in their education.

    Unfortunately

    since the disaster,the situation looks

    a lot gloomier.

    Most of you may

    not be aware that

    Gaza is facing a

complete powercut, this is also in

    addition to the

limited access in providing essential aid to the people of Gaza. Asthings stand, four out of five men, women and children in Gaza

rely on humanitarian aid. There has been a huge international

outcry to call for an international conference to lift the blockade

of Gaza, allowing for humanitarian aid to reach the people.

Minhaj Welfare Foundation has launched a Relief project toprovide electricity to various local hospitals in Gaza, providing

clothing, food and water to the thousands displaced. You can

contribute a mere 20 in helping to buy an electric generator to

improve the lives of the patients who wait anxiously for your help.

    Free Eye Surgery

Scientific studies have shown thatblindness and sight problems are linked

with poverty. Pakistan is amongst the

    most impoverished and poorest

countries in the world, with an extreme

number of people hit by poverty. Over

one million people are estimated to beblind in Pakistan, with thousands of

children refused education due to their

sight. This seems to be an ever growing

    problem in Pakistan.

MWF organised its 12th Annual FreeEye Surgery Camp in which 6 OPD

Camps were set up in Narowal,

Pakistan, to provide Free Eye Check Ups

to 5274 people. The camps weremonitored by Senior Medical Experts.Out of the 5274 who received Free

Check Ups, 270 were referred to Eye

    Surgeons who carried out further

    surgery.

We aim to expand this specific projectthroughout Pakistan. Those individuals

    who receive further surgery have

regular checkups to ensure thetreatment is properly administered.

    Thousands of Pakistanis have benefited

from this unique project, providing themwith an opportunity to obtain an

    education and a better future.

Free Medical Camp LahoreMWF arranges various medical camps

    within economically deprived areas of

    Pakistan. Numerous camps have been

setup throughout rural areas of Lahore

in which thousands of people were

treated for Free Hepatitis B Test,

Blood Grouping, and VaccinationHepatitis B Test. Treatment of such

    diseases are vital especially in

Pakistan, where there are a lot of

people who fall below the threshold

    of poverty.

The progress and rise of any country

    depends largely upon the

    educational strength of its people.

    Unfortunately Pakistan is one of

    those countries where education

    has never been ranked high

    amongst the priorities for the

people. Sadly it is the impoverished

of society who are suffering the

most. Many millions are unable toread and write resulting in social

    KashmirMuzaffarabad, Patika, Chakoti

Kashmir is a region divided among threecountries in a territorial dispute: Pakistancontrols the northwest portion (NorthernAreas and Azad Kashmir), India controls thecentral and southern portion (Jammu andKashmir) and Ladakh, and China controls thenortheastern portion (Aksai Chin and the

Trans-Karakoram Tract). The 2005 earthquake shook the entire world as thousands of people

lost their lives, millions of people were injured and were left displaced

from their homes. Minhaj Welfare Foundation was amongst the first

NGO on the ground to initiate the emergency relief work to assist thosestuck in the rubble.

Part of the ongoing and long term projects of MWF is to rekindle the

hope of many people affected by the disaster. MWF plans to rebuild-

schools, places of worship and hospitals in those areas ruined by theearthquake. A lot of work has been done in development of theseregions in particular Muzaffarabad. Our main objective is to provide a

multi purpose project for this region which will include educational

livestock and property.A major cause of poverty in Bangladesh is the

erratic and extreme climate and a large section

of the country that is low-lying and vulnerable to

flooding. Many of Bangladesh's poor people live

in areas subject to extreme annual flooding,

which can destroy crops, homes and livelihoods. In difficult circumstances people often resort to

moneylenders to rebuild their lives and that

pushes them further into poverty. For the large

numbers of rural people whose survival depends

on agriculture, income and food are highly

unstable. Many farmers make a living on small

and fragmented plots. Those who are landless

the situation is even more severe. Almost half of

the population falls into this category.Another cause of poverty has been the vast

population growth and the pressure this has

placed on the environment and the infrastruc-

    ture.

    PROJECT | Bangladesh

Since the last 10 years Minhaj Welfare

    Foundation has developed good relationship

with the Bangladeshi community. It has

attracted a lot of volunteers from rural areas of

Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet. MWF has been

supporting several educational projects. Mostrecently MWF started a food project in the

Whichever angle you look at Pakistan, there is not just the

economical or political tensions that are stirring the currentclimate, cultural and social hindrances have deprived and

taken away the rights of equality amongst certain

individuals. Due to the economic deficit that continuously

hits Pakistan, many citizens are unable to enjoy theprospect of beginning a family. Cultural confusions have

meant that families of to be brides are drowned in themost tragic of situations. The woman remains without a

partner in her life leading her to take her own life. This dark

reality still remains amongst many Pakistanis.

KenyaKitere is a remote village next to the Tana River in

Kenya. A village where there is no electricity, no clean

water and a lack of basic human necessities.

With the help of donors over a span of 6 years there are

now over 200 students both boys and girls who arepursuing fulltime education. This has led to the

employment of 5 full time teachers who are funded by

the donors. All the education fees and meal costs of all

boarders and orphans are also funded by the donors.

With the help of donations, a Water well was also dugnext to the school to provide clean drinking water for the

villagers and the students. This has bought a drastic

change into the daily lives of the villagers. There has

been a considerable decrease in water borne illnesses

among the young and the old.

Recently one of the members of the village donated 4

acres of the land to the school. The main priority is to

convert the land into farm land for cultivation and

subsequently cutting the costs of food by providing thestudents food from the farm. Through donations a waterpump has been purchased to pump water out of the Tana

River into the farm land and a farmer has been employed

    to look after the land.

    Minhaj Welfare Foundation created a

link with a Nigerian worker called

    Husseni from Madagali, Adamawa State

in North East Africa in October 2009.MWF began work on assessing the

viability of working in the village of

Madagli, it appointed Husseini as a

    Co-ordinator and soon initiated its

Winter Food Project. The people had

never witnessed such a project; the joywas evident as Husseini travelled many

kilometres to send MWF an email

expressing the gratitude of the tribal

leaders and the people from the vil lage.

Part of MWFs Education for the thirdWorld project is to ensure the sustain-

ability in charitable work at underdeveloped areas; MWF has started an

Education Program to provide a better

future for the children of Madagali andtheir families.

MWF will provide furniture to under

    developed countries that lack staggeringly

behind in education due to insufficient

    amount of resource.

The schools are run through financial

backing of the local community and the

    monthly fees of the children.

    The four schools are:

    1. Hayat School has 59 students.

Minhaj Welfare Foundation has initiated various projects which will provide long term

opportunities for the people of three regions within Somalia focusing on Education

and Water & Sanitation. The project is to provide sustainability for the under

    privileged.

    1. Orphans Sponsorship

Orphan Sponsorship: There are many orphans in Somalia that are being looked after

by guardians or relatives, they have to face the difficult task of supporting their own

children and the orphan child. You can help MWF in this unique project and sponsor an orphan for just 25 per build a wellmonth. At the end of the academic year, all those that have sponsored will receive a

detailed report of the childs progress. from 1500

.2. Water Tanker: (Sigalow District - Hiran Region)This traditional method of transporting goods will allow for poor families to generate

income for themselves. It is estimated to generate over 100 monthly income for thefamilies which can easily cover monthly expenses of 6 to 7 members of a family.

However peculiar it might seem, a cart on two tyres led by a donkey is a good source

    of income.

One water tanker costs 500, please donate generously towards this project and see

the drastic change it brings to the lives of many people.

3 - Shallow Water Wells: (Qoryoley District - Lower Shabelle Region)Water and sanitation is amongst MWFs key projects this summer. The lifetime of the

well is for twelve years and it is estimated to provide over 3000 people with water

daily and the project costs 1500.

Special Welfare ProjectsKamaliaThe area of Kamalia, in the district of Toba Tek Singh has long

needed an educational establishment. Education is animportant factor in the development of a young childs future

especially in the under developed regions of the third world.

Students who aspire to achieve something in their life arepulled back due to the lack of resources. The desire of an

individual from the UK inspired Minhaj Welfare Foundation to

initiate a project in his home town of Kamalia.

The dream of an individual has now meant that there will be

an educational centre for the children of Kamalia. In addition

Muhammad Hussain Hashmi and his wife from Kamalia kindlydonated their new home to MWF. This will allow MWF to

extend the educational centre by providing both a Primary

    and eventually a secondary school.

Building a school in villages such as Kamalia is an enormous

task undertaking and raising funds has been a struggle

however the work is coming along very quickly. Hopefully by

next year the enrolment of students will begin. You can

donate towards this project ensuring a bright future for thechildren of Kamalia.

for the children. The medical complex which is adjacent to

people. One particular woman, Aisha paid tribute to the

excellent work of MWF, she said ..before I had to travel

more than 20 km just for medical check up, sometimes Icouldnt afford to purchase the medicine. Now I can get free

medical check up and medicine at a very cheap price. I and

my entire family are indebted to MWF for this uniqueproject.
