Introduction to Minhaj Welfare Foundation

Minhaj Welfare Foundation is amongst the leading international charities in alleviating

deprivation and human suffering. Minhaj Welfare Foundation (MWF) was established in 1989 in

Pakistan by its founder Dr Muhammad Tahir ul Qadri. MWF has sub branches in over 80 countries,

promoting Education, Health and Welfare.

MWF aspires in providing sustainable and long term projects for developing nations and in

particular its main focus is tackling deprivation and global poverty. As a charity we envisage in

providing a more prosperous and safer world through great transparency of welfare activities in

the third world.

MWF has provided emergency relief to areas hit by disasters in recent years including:

Afghanistan, Palestine, Indonesia, Kashmir, Haiti, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq and many more.

Currently MWF is in the process of providing a unique ‘Aghosh’ Orphan Care Home which will

cater and house 500 orphans from the recent Pakistan floods which left had over 1.3 million

children parentless. This unique project will provide every Orphan with free education from

primary level up to University level, giving those less fortunate in society an opportunity to live in

a more sustainable environment.

Pakistan is considered an economically deprived nation which has faced many obstacles politically

and financially in recent years. The floods had a crippling effect on the economy in a country

which already has seen the rise of food prices increase. One of the core reasons for the rising food

prices are due to the damaged crops in which 1.3 million acres of crops was estimated to be

completely destroyed.

Flood waters roared down from the North to Punjab and on to Sindh along a trail more than 1,000

km (600 miles) long, spreading the disaster further. Minhaj Welfare Foundation initiated its relief

operations in the districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhah expanding its relief efforts to Sindh.

Pakistan Floods: Long History of MWF in Pakistan

People might question why there is a need in helping Pakistan; well Pakistan is a country that

has a population of over 170 million making it the 6th

poorest nation in the world. An

outstanding fact which has seen a quarter of the population live in extreme poverty.

Minhaj Welfare Foundation was found on the

principle of providing basic human rights,

equality and sustainability focusing at the three

key areas in development; education, Health

care and general welfare.

MWF with experience of 21 years in the field has

provided groundbreaking results in reviving

Pakistan. MWF continues forth in fighting

poverty by establishing development programs

focusing at nurturing and developing the skills of under privileged children.

Pakistan Floods: MWF constant HELP

More than 20 million people were affected and over 800,000 homes destroyed by floods and

landslides brought on by the monsoon rain in Pakistan. The disaster was greater than Tsunami

and Haiti combined. The flood saw the emerging of water-borne diseases making it a threat to

survivors.

Minhaj Welfare Foundation immediately began its relief and rescue service on the 26th

July 2010 in

Nowshera and Akora Khataq. It was reported that these two areas were worse affected at the

start, the floods then hit Southern regions of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan.

The second phase of relief efforts was to provide basic essentials such as food, clean water,

clothing, medicine and shelter. MWF established 21 tent settlements and 28 relief camps

throughout the affected areas in Pakistan assisting a ground breaking number of 11,825 people.

Unique and extraordinary efforts of over 9500 volunteers ensured that 339 truck loads of basic

essentials reaches affected areas continuously for four months and more than 4050 volunteers

set up 432 collection camps.

The floods affected millions of people medically; MWF established 125 medical camps and

provided medical assistance to over 70,000 people. ‘Dr Pervaiz Medical Establishment’ provided

500 medical experts to assist in the flood affected regions and it also set up medical dispensaries

and ambulances in over 10 affected areas.

Minhaj Welfare Foundation provided 3700 families with two months ration. It provided daily

cooked food throughout the Islamic month of Ramadhan, with more than 15,000 volunteers of

MWF in Pakistan spending their Ramadhan and Eid with the flood victims.
