Eisteddfod Congratulations to all classes and students who participated in the Upper Hunter Eisteddfod last week. It was a pleasure hosting this community event and welcoming many visitors from around the Upper Hunter to our wonderful school. Congratulations to the Eisteddfod committee for organising such a wonderful event.

Cyber Safety Information Students in Years 3-6 have today participated in a Cyber Safety Information Session delivered by Senior Constable’s Sheree Gray and Kelly Bastick, Youth and Crime Prevention Officers, Hunter Valley Policing District. Please ensure you sit down with your children this afternoon and reinforce the important messages that were delivered. This is a very serious issue in

society and I urge all parents to educate yourselves on the importance of everyone being cyber safe. Athletics Carnivals We are very much looking forward to participating in our annual Athletics Carnivals this week. Due to forecasted wet weather on Friday we have had to make some changes to the program of events, a note has been sent home. They are wonderful school and community events where our students get to show case their many sporting talents. We look forward to being able to share these days with parents and carers this year. Jump Rope for Heart Once again MPS will be supporting this fantastic charity. We have had a close association with this organisation for many years and are proud of our fund-raising achievements and the support of our school community. Beanies for Brain Cancer We have treat day next week in support of this wonderful organisation. It is an out of uniform day and we look forward to our school community supporting this wonderful organisation once again. Get your beanies ready! Re: Updated COVID-19 Guidelines

In accordance with NSW Health, parents and carers are reminded NOT to send their children to school if they are unwell, even if they have the mildest flu-like symptoms.

Please note symptoms include:

A fever, cough, sore or scratchy throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, or loss of taste or smell.

Students and staff with flu-like symptoms need to be tested and provide a copy of a negative COVID-19 test result and be symptom-free before being permitted to return to school.

Students who do not undertake a COVID-19 test will not be permitted to return to school for a 10-day period. Additionally, they must be symptom-free for at least 3 days prior to returning to school.

Girls Football (Soccer)

Thank you Mr Mac for asking me to fill in and supervise the Girls Football team for

their round 3 match against Bolwarra P.S.

Wow, what an honour to be involved with this amazing team of girls. With very

little experience in the team, they pushed a very experienced Bolwarra P.S all the

way only losing 2-0. They were fantastic in their attitude and commitment to

one-another and for their desire to give their all for their school and families. Girls,

you did everyone proud. You are a wonderful group of very talented athletes who

have once again excelled at school sport.

Newcastle Science and Engineering

Challenge Day!

On Wednesday 9th June, a team of 32 Muswellbrook Public School students competed in The University of

Newcastle’s Science and Engineering Challenge Day. The event was kindly sponsored by Yancoal, who sent a team

of engineers to encourage and support the competing students. Muswellbrook Rotary Club coordinated the day

and provided a tasty barbeque lunch to sustain the competitors.

The students’ braved the chilly weather inside the indoor sport stadium to finish 2nd, only four points behind the

winning school. Behaviour and enthusiasm shown was first class.

The students’ were split into 8 teams and were assigned 2 challenges for the day; one for the morning and another

for the afternoon. Teams were supported by a friendly Year 11 science student, from St Joseph’s High School

Aberdeen, at each challenge station. The 8 challenges presented to the students were: Bridge Building, Catapult

Creation, Water Wheel, Earthquake-Resistant Building Design, Town Infrastructure Design, Coding, Power Supply

and Grab It (prosthetic limb design). Students had to work together as a team to finish their station. They were

awarded points based on how successfully they completed each challenge.

After lunch, the team from Newcastle University gave an amazing science show. Everyone was captivated by their

performance, who knew chemistry was so exciting?

Muswellbrook Public School would like to thank The University of Newcastle, Yancoal, Muswellbrook Rotary Club

and St Joseph’s High School for giving us the opportunity to participate in such an amazing day.

2021 Speech & Drama Eisteddfod Results! On Monday, 7th June, we began the Eisteddfod with performances by K-2 students. We had 13

individual performances and 7 class groups. The children were very nervous, but had great stage

presence and did their personal best. All our class groups were awarded first place: KM in Readers’

Theatre, KT in Readers’ Theatre, KL in Nursery Rhyme, 1CT in Nursery Rhyme, 2F in Nursery Rhyme,

and 2S in Choral Verse, with 2N coming a close second to 2S in their Choral Verse section.

We had first places go to Gracie S, Alexie K x 2, Frankie D, Caitlin F, Olivia W & Macey D, Teresa M &

Skylar M. Second place was awarded to Layla K, third place to Isabella B, and Highly Commended to

Layla K, Teresa M, Bridget E, Brooklyn B and Reid H. A very successful start to the Eisteddfod!

On Tuesday, 8th June, we had another successful day of competition, featuring Stage 2 students. Out

of the 6 performances, we had four first place medals awarded to Kayla C, including one with Livinia

M, and second place awarded to Victoria W and Scarlet T and Skylah H. An outstanding effort and

result for Kayla!

Wednesday, 9th June, saw the Public Speaking Competition held after school. We had 7 brave

competitors, and the standard was extremely high. Special mention to competitors Melody J, and

Stephanie M in the K-2 section, Vienna M in the Year 3-4 section and Tessa H in the Year 5-6 section

for their effort in preparing and presenting their speeches. In the K-2 section, Mia W was awarded a

Very Highly Commended; in the Year 3–4 section, Kayla C was awarded second place and $20 prize

money. In the Year 5–6 section, Indiana H was Highly Commended and Myah C won first place with

$30 prize money, as well as the Apex Primary Public Speaking Shield award for 2021.

Thursday, 10th June, was bitterly cold but the competition was fierce and hotly contested amongst

Year 5 and 6 students. Class 5/6W were awarded third place for their Choral Verse speaking, and first

places were awarded to Indiana H, Myah C, Hannah J & Sourabi K, and Indiana & Sourabi. Second

places were awarded to Myah C, Indiana H x 2, and to Harpa C. Harpa also won a third place, with

Indiana H receiving a Highly Commended, and Sourabi K a Very Highly Commended. Other fine

performances were from Sourabi K and Tessa H. The skill and commitment of these students is

outstanding and I am very proud of them all.

The Speech & Drama Eisteddfod concluded on Friday, 11th June, with a special winning performance

from our K-6K boys who were awarded first place for their poem. In Prescribed Poetry, first place was

awarded to Indiana H, with Myah C receiving second place. Indiana H also received a third place with

her mime.

Altogether, out of 9 class groups and 30 individual students who competed in 46 performances, we

won 23 first places, 10 second places, 4 third places, 2 Very Highly Commended and 7 Highly

Commended places. Congratulations to all the students for learning their items and polishing their

performances to do their Personal Best! Also thank you to the parents and teachers for allowing

their children to participate, and for encouraging the students to challenge themselves and be their

Personal Best!

IMPORTANT notices

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are pleased to advise that Parents/ Carers are permitted back onto school grounds to attend assembly.

Please note attendance is limited to one parent/carer per child.

A note will be sent home to parents if they child is receiving an ‘unknown’ award for example: Class Captains

etc.

Please note, teachers are not sending home notes for PBL award recipient. This is due to COVID restrictions

and complying with the square meterage rule that is currently in place.

Parents of Children who are receiving a white award or emerald award will not be notified. We kindly ask

students to return their blue cards, white awards or gold awards by Monday at 3:15pm for Wednesday

assembly and Wednesday 3:15pm for Fridays assembly. If your child has handed their awards in prior to the

cut off on these days, they will receive their white, gold or emerald award that week.

Please return all updated Health Care Plans to the office as

soon as possible.

Important information - COVID UPDATE

Any visitors or adults must continue to adhere to physical distancing guidelines and sign-in protocols.

Our gates will continue to be locked between 9.15am and 3.15pm as this is a safety requirement and access during school hours will continue to be through the front gate.

Pick up and drop off routines will remain the same, with access to front, bottom and back gates continuing. If you are happy to pick up and drop off outside the gates, we encourage you to continue this routine and support your child’s independence.

If you are entering school grounds, we ask parents/carers to please maintain a distance from each other and staff and not congregate in walkways and high traffic areas as our students exit the gates and get onto buses.

As we continue to maintain regular COVID-19 cleaning throughout the day, parents and carers are asked to refrain from sitting on school seating to help maintain our safety procedures.

Please ensure you follow the directions of staff if requested. We are all trying our best to continue to keep our students, staff and school community safe. More information will be given out as it comes to hand.

Assemblies

Year 5 Camp- installments

K-2 Assembly will be held on Wednesdays at 2:30pm in the Hall.

Please note there will be no primary school assemblies for the

remainder of Term 2.

Please note parent attendance is permitted but limited to one parent

per child receiving an award. We kindly ask you to sign in using the

QR code (displayed on the front entrance of the school).

Year 5 Camp will take place between Wednesday 14th – Friday 16th

July 2021 at the Great Aussie Bush Camp, Tea Gardens.

Final payment is due on Friday 18th June 2021 (Week 9 – this

week).

It is an expectation that all children in Year 5 will attend this camp. If

there is a problem with your child attending camp, please contact

Clive Kerrigan or your child’s class teacher, as most problems can

be overcome.

YEAR 4 CAMP INFORMATION!

The Year 4 Camp will take place at Glenbawn Dam from Tuesday 31st August 2021

until Friday 3rd September 2021.

Please note Parent helpers have now been selected. It is a requirement that you have

a valid working with children check to be able to volunteer at the camp.

We still require a large number of parents to help set up on Tuesday 31st August and

pack up on Friday 3rd September. More information to follow.

PSSA Boys Touch Football

The MPS Boys touch football team is progressing through to round two of the PSSA Knockout.

The boys will be playing agaisnt Muswellbrook South Public School.

Venue: Muswellbrook South Public School

Date: Monday 21st June 2021

Time: Depart MPS at 12:10pm – Game will commence at 12:40pm.

Transport: Private Car

Equipment Required: School uniform, joggers, hat, sunscreen and drink bottle.

The MPS Girls touch football team is progressing through to round two of the PSSA knockout.

The girls will be playing agaisnt Singleton Public School.

Venue: Civic Park, Singleton

Date: Wednesday 23rd June 2021

Time: 9:30am at Civic Park and 11am (depart to return to school).

Transport: Private Car to and from the venue.

Equipment required: School uniform, joggers, hat, sunscreen and drink bottle.

Lunch Orders – 17th and 18th June 2021 (2-6 Athletics Carnival)

K-2 students who are NOT attending the carnival will be able to order lunch, however, the canteen

will not be operating at recess time.

Students who are in years 2-6 that ARE attending the carnival are NOT to order lunch or recess

through MunchMonitor. They can purchase hot dogs, a variety of fresh sandwiches, cold drinks or

treats. Please note that students will need to come with money and take it directly to the carnival,

to spend at the canteen. Price lists will be posted on the official school Facebook page.
