Qi Matroller
Technical Training session
2006
Presented by
Bradley Timm
&
Rodger Jeffery – MT USA
Introduction & Overview
• Objectives• Know what the Qi is
• Be able to describe the function of the Matroller
• Be aware of comprehensive feed data O/P by the Qi
• Will know what type of equipment is supported by the QiMPACT
Reference material: Qi – The BASICS.pdf
Qi Matroller position in a Batching System
• Last control component in the sequence• Receives Target and Material info • Reports back to Control system at the end of the Feed
Recipe Target &
Material Path
HMI PLC Qi Matroller
• Qi processes the Recipe One Material (Phase) at a time.
• Database of Materials used is kept in the Qi
Batch Server
Multiple Recipes
Functions – what is it and what does it do ?
• It’s a Weight indicator and Flow meter totaliser !
• Can be part of a Batching System OR stand alone control
• Does not store a recipe internally.
• Suitable for single valve control (single feed)
• Accurate Feeds at SPEED (High Flow Rates)– Uses P&G’s patented Predictive Control Algorithms
• Monitors Flow Rate during the Transfer cycle and continuously adjusts the cutoff point
– Very fast, 20 mS comparator for scales• Flowmeter even faster!
• Provides consistent Material Feed Interlocking– Consistency throughout the world!
• Provides Comprehensive Feed reports
• Qi Lite can handle two speed control
• GROUP FEED Capability (Qi Lite)
Qi Functional capabilities – not just accuracy
• Feed Accuracy at Speed– Maintains Feed accuracy at High Flow rates and varying Flow Rates !
• By means of sophisticated Predictive Control Algorithms (PAC)
• Material Feed management– Built in Feed Interlocking
• Will not allow simultaneous Feed In and Discharge out of the same Scale
– High limits, Low limits, silly Targets– Instrument accuracy crosschecking– Overlapping feeds for a more efficient process
• Feed Data Logging– Comprehensive data output at end of every feed
• Note: must be captured by Host Computer
– Data such as:• Net amount Fed, Feed duration time, Gross weight at start and end of Feed,
Average Flow rate, Flow rate and Spill at Cutoff, Internal Algorithm constants etc
• All this is built into, and comes standard with the Qi. Thus reducing the amount of code within the PLC, reducing cycle time and code writing time.
• This means a consistent solution to feed control throughout the World
• Simplifies maintenance and support
Review questions
• Does the Matroller require a PLC when performing batching functions?
• What are the three main functions of a Matroller?• Can the Matroller function as a standalone Scale display?
