MUSIC MAGAZINE INITIAL PLAN

GENREAfter looking at all the research I have done about music magazines and gathering my results from my survey, I have decided that I will be choosing the indie genre for my music magazine. My research has shown that there is not a indie music magazine that solely focus on the genre itself, and therefore there is a gap in the market to produce this product. Furthermore my survey has shown that the indie genre is very popular around people of the younger age and has now become a genre that a lot of people favour.

TARGET AUDIENCEI have decided to target my indie magazine to an audience that range from the ages of 16-25, my survey has shown that the people within this age group favour indie music. This target audience is made up of young adults, college and university students which means that there will be wide range of people to appeal to. Also within my own age group I have found that indie music is very popular.

HOW WILL MY MAGAZINE FIT INTO THE CURRENT MARKET

PLACE?Through research and the conducted survey about consumer buying habits I have found that there is no single music magazine that solely focuses on the indie genre. The most well known indie music magazine for my target market is NME. NME is indie magazine that focus on the indie-rock genre because it is intertwined with two different genres rock and indie this makes it harder for the magazine to appeal to all indie music lovers. Therefore I think I there is a gap in the market for my magazine as it will be based around the whole genre to appeal to a wider audience and not connected between different genres only allowing niche audiences to read it.

DESIGN IDEAS FOR MYFRONY COVER

Font – I want to play around and experiment with a range of fonts on my front cover. However the fonts that I use will have to connect with the pictures and styles that are relevant to my magazine.

Colours – I don’t want any of my front cover to look busy, messy or too over the top. I want to make sure that my front cover is simple but fun and the chosen colour scheme fits in well with my pictures and uses colures that complement each other.

Layout – I want my front cover to stand out but not to come across as being to busy, I want it to have a simple touch but have its own unique quality. I think the indie is fun and relaxed and I want that to comes across in my front cover.

My magazine will be a monthly issue about the hottest new and upcoming artist in the indie music scene, festivals, reviews, latest news and more

My magazine will cost £2 I have chosen this price because my research has shown me that people do not like to spend a lot of money when buying magazines. Also my target audience is based around a group of people who are studying and it is therefore more beneficial to them if they buy a magazine that is reasonably priced.
