Media Magazine Initial Ideas

Magazine 1

My first idea was to make a Blues/Jazz Magazine for people aged 18 plus who either play an instrument themselves or enjoy the blues jazz genre. My target audience will be mainly males as I believe that males are more likely to play and watch blues or jazz. My magazine is going to be more focused on people who have some experience in music but still understandable for people who like the genre. The target audience for my magazine is going to be quite small in comparison to other magazines. Though this means fewer people will buy my magazine i think people from my target audience will have fewer options available for them meaning i have a smaller competition compared to a magazine with a large target audience. The content of my magazine is also going to appeal to my target audience and relate to the genre of my magazine. The main image of my magazine is most likely going to be an image of someone playing  the instrument of the month. The instrument is going to be something that relates with blues and jazz as my target audience will relate with it and may even play it.

Through my research of both Jazz and Blues magazines i have found that they both feature older males as the main image of there magazine. The two examples on this page are examples of how i could layout my magazine

Magazine 2

My second idea is to make a Rock / Metal magazine for men aged 16-28. My Magazine is going to be focused mainly at fans of the music and less so at people who play an instrument or are in a band as i believe that this will give me a larger target audience. Even though I have a large target audience i will have a lot of competitions with other magazines with a similar genre. to combat this i will try to include exclusive features that will make my target audience more likely to chooses my magazine over another one. i will include adverts like Tickets sales as this will appeal to my target audience. Because my target audience is mainly students the price of my magazine to going to have to be something affordable. To combat this i could release my magazine less often meaning people wont have to pay out every week or so. The main image of this magazine will be an image of a gig with the audience at the bottom of the page with a long shot of the band playing as the main feature of the image. The features in my magazine will be writing informally as my target audience may be put off if my magazine was too formal.

The two magazines i picked form the internet show some of the features i want to include in my magazine. I want to use the colour sceme of the classic rock magazine and i like the way both magazine have the main images going over the masthead

Magazine 3The last idea i had for my magazine is classical themed magazine focused at a target audience of 28-40 males based more to the older members of the target audience. The members of my target audience are going to be higher class with larger incomes. As higher class people are stereotypically better educated my features are going to have to my more formal and more advanced words should be used when possible. People from my target audience will be likely to play an instrument to some level and therefor I am going to include some features that appeal to them. As my magazine is focused on people with a large income i am able to set the price of my magazine larger than a normal magazine. this will show my target audience that my magazine in high quality and something they want to buy

The features i want my magazine to have are similar to the two magazine on this page. i want my magazine to have an image of a female playing an instrument as the main image of my page . i also want to use the red/white colour scheme in the second magazine design.

After asking the opinion of some of the students in my media class i found out that most of them liked the idea of having a classical magazine. The main reason i got from the people who

like the classical magazine was that not many people have seen that type of magazine and think it will be both different and have less competition for other magazines. One of the draw backs

they said is that as it has a smaller target audience my readership will be smaller and ill need to charge more to make up for it

I decided to go for the classical music mainly because of the backing from most of the student in my class and also i have an interests in the genre of music in question.
