Music at All Souls Rich and varied musical offerings are a fundamental part of the worship experience at All Souls Church. Sunday mornings feature professional soloists with organ or piano, choral offerings, and congregational singing. e Sunday morning repertoire includes such congregational favorites as Holst’s Psalms 86 and 148, Missa Luba, Precious Lord, and Palestrina’s Tu Es Petrus. roughout the year, occasional instrumental soloists enhance variety, and on special services brass and timpani are added. Christmas Eve services include a full orchestra. Since 1976 Walter Klauss has been Minister of Music at All Souls Church. He is also the founder and conductor of the critically acclaimed Musica Viva concert series in New York. Childrens and Youth Choir As an alternative to the grade-based second- hour workshops, our children’s and youth choir offers children in the first grade and older an opportunity for vocal training and performance in the All Souls community. e Children’s and Youth Choir is directed by Alden Gatt. Rehearsals are held Wednesday evenings at 6:00 p.m. from September to June. To arrange for an audition, please call the church at (212) 535-5530. Community Choir e Community Choir is open to all (members and non-members) regardless of musical training or ability. Rehearsals are held Tuesday evenings from October through May at 6:30 p.m. No prior experience singing in a chorus is necessary! e Community Choir sings during Sunday morning services periodically throughout the year.

In addition to our Sunday morning music program, Walter Klauss also directs the Musica Viva concert series featuring the All Souls Choir and orchestra. Musica Viva is a separately incorporated non-profit organization which performs four concerts per year at All Souls.

Musica Viva is dedicated to performing rarely heard choral, orchestral and organ works from all periods of music.

For the 2013-14 season, concerts are:Oct. 20 - Brahms plus Orff ’s Carmina BuranaJan. 26 - Organ recital with choir and orchestraMar. 9 - Hadyn, Handel, SaylorMay 18 - Beethoven, Vaughan Williams, Brahms

A subscription to all four concerts is only $100, or two subscriptions are included with any contribution to Musica Viva of $500 or above.
