JOB DESCRIPTION
DIRECTOR
Responsible to: The Board of Directors
Responsible for: All staff, volunteers/ student & Intern placements/visiting artists and any others as determined by the Board
This role requires a confident and effective communicator with highly developed inter-personal skills and the ability to work co-operatively and effectively with all Seacourt staff, artist members, users, stakeholders, funders and associated organisations.
As a relatively small arts charity it is essential that the Director is committed to effective team work and is willing and eager to participate in all aspects of Seacourt’s work.
Key responsibilities of the post include:
Liaising with the Board of Directors
1. Implementing policy as defined by the Board of Directors2. Reporting to the Board on the progress of policy implementation3. Ensuring adherence to Seacourt’s Memorandum & Articles of Association4. Assisting with the development and implementation of Seacourt’s Strategic Plan
and Annual Business Plans5. Providing input to Board of Directors meetings and other Board meetings if
required
Managing & Oversight of Fundraising, Grant & Funding Management
6. Developing and managing a fund-raising strategy and ensuring it is implemented including -
7. Writing proposals and submitting grant applications8. Ensuring projects are completed as described and ensuring that all funding
conditions are met9. Ensuring mid-year, year-end and other required reporting to funding bodies is
completed and submitted on time10.Summarising Project budgets and appropriate related income & expenditures and
reporting on these to the Board11.Seeking alternative funding opportunities, corporate and individual sponsorship
possibilities and building relationships with potential sponsors12.Ensuring fees and other payments are received from members, participants etc
and are properly accounted for

Assisting with the Planning and Managing of the Annual Budget
13.Preparing a draft Annual Plan and Annual Budget for approval by the Board14.Verifying all income and expenditure and ensuring monthly and year end reports
are accurate and produced promptly15.Monitoring spending and planning for mid and long-term income requirements
well in advance and ensuring the Board of Directors are kept informed of any potential funding shortfall as soon as known
16.Ensuring Seacourt’s Financial Procedures are fully implemented17.Overseeing all ordering, invoicing and reconciliation of cash to ensure compliance
with Seacourt’s agreed policies and procedures18.Assisting with updating and then maintaining Seacourt’s Financial Management
Systems
Management & Operational Running of Seacourt
19.Responsibility for Health & Safety, including ensuring policies are in place and implemented where appropriate. Taking on responsibility for being one of Seacourt’s First Aiders
20.Undertaking the duties required of a Safeguarding Designated Officer21.Scheduling for optimum workshop usage22.Creating and managing a record of Seacourt’s Archive23.Encouraging an appropriate and supportive atmosphere in the workshop and
monitoring user feedback to inform future development24.Ensuring an accurate inventory of equipment is established and ensuring safety
checks are completed annually25.Developing effective stock control procedures and ensuring these are fully
implemented26.Overseeing payroll and tax, NI and other contributions to appropriate authorities
are compliant with current regulations and are made on time27.Working with the Exhibitions Committee to plan, programme, install and uninstall
exhibitions in Seacourt’s galleries and coordinate the preparation of exhibition documentation
People Management
28.Establishing a pool of art professionals/facilitators to develop Seacourt’s outreach programme across Northern Ireland
29.Acting as line manager for Co-ordinator(s), Facilitators, Technicians, Volunteers, students, Interns Placements/visiting artists
30.Ensuring all new users/members have completed, and a record is kept of, an appropriate induction programme
31.Mentoring users of Seacourt’s facilities and assist with the development of good workshop experiences for visiting artists, students, interns and others
32.Acting to resolve any disputes, concerns or complaints which may arise and promoting good relationships within and beyond the workshop whenever possible

33.Ensuring all new users/members have completed and a record is kept of an appropriate induction programme
34.Setting up a Volunteer programme and ensure appropriate deployment
Overseeing and Managing Publicity for Seacourt
35.Raising the profile of Seacourt and its programmes through effective marketing strategies Increasing the audiences for Seacourt, its workshops, demonstrations, courses and its artists
36.Promoting Seacourt’s and artist member’s activities and exhibitions through social media e.g. Facebook, the website, Instagram, Twitter
37.Overseeing and quality assuring all printed publicity material

CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION
Essential Criteria:
We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated person with excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, assessed through application form, interview and presentation, and a strong track record of:
1. Operating at senior management level - including strategic development, governance, business planning, financial management and reporting, compliance, monitoring and evaluation of projects.
2. People management – leading teams, managing, appraising, recruiting and working effectively with staff and/or volunteers.
3. Fundraising - in particular securing funds from trusts, foundations, businesses, developing new income streams and/or encouraging philanthropic giving
4. Developing partnerships - with arts organisations and/or community and voluntary organisations, education and health sectors.
5. Networking, marketing and of engaging stakeholders in promoting and raising the profile of an organisation.
6. Self-management – being able to work independently, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects
7. Effectively using ICT, spread-sheets, databases, social media and digital marketing.
Desirable Criteria
1. Evidence of active engagement with the visual arts or cultural or heritage sector.
2. Experience of website design/website management.
3. Evidence of an ability to use a financial accounts software package, for example, Sage50 Accounts.

GENERAL INFORMATION
This position is being offered on a permanent basis.
Salary:NJC Scale PO2 Salary: The starting salary will normally be at NICVA/NJC spinal point 35 (currently £30,785).Incremental progression up to spinal point 38 will be subject to satisfactory performance review and available funding.
Location: Seacourt, The Centre for Contemporary Printmaking, Unit 20, Dunlop Industrial Units, 8 Balloo Drive, Bangor, Co Down, BT19 7QYYou will be expected to travel throughout Northern Ireland, with occasional travel to the Republic of Ireland, the United Kingdom and possibly further afield on official business.
Hours: 37.5 per week normally between 09:00am and 5:00pm with a 30min (unpaid) lunch break. Some evening/Saturday work may be required for gallery/workshop openings and other business for which time off in lieu applies.
Annual Leave: 25 days plus NI statutory holidays. Leave year 1st April-31st March.
Probationary period: There is a probationary period of 1 year from the start of employment which may be terminated at a month’s notice by either party.
Pension: The appointment is pensionable and appropriate arrangements will be put in place by Seacourt.
Variation to the TermsSeacourt Print Workshop reserves the right to vary the terms of this arrangement subject to prior notification being given and after appropriate consultation has taken place.
