INTERMEDIATE TAPESTRY WEAVINGSaturday, May 21 / 10 am – 2 pm

Learn how to create a circular shape, setting in diagonal shapes, hatching, rya, shading, varying the texture and thickness of weft yarns, the spacing of warps, and incorporating a cartoon or small design. This workshop is for experienced students or those who have taken Introduction to Tapestry Weaving. A $75 materials fee is due to the instructor at the beginning of class for a small portable loom to keep and warp and weft materials. Paint these gorgeous flowers using transparent watercolor. Learn how to highlight petals and accentuate their medium and dark values. INTRODUCTION TO TAPESTRY WEAVINGSaturday, May 14 / 10am – 2 pm

Learn the basics of tapestry warping and weaving on a small portable loom, and complete a basic tapestry sampler. Set up a frame loom, discuss options for warp and weft materials, spacing, color, and grist. Explore various techniques: joining colors, creating simple shapes, and making di�erent angles using interlock and vertical dovetail. LIT OUTFIT WORKSHOPSaturday, April 23 / 10 am – 5 pm

In conjunction with Leo Villareal: Animating Light, make yourself glow at night in this hands-on workshop. Perfect for Burning Man or DIY costume- makers, work with costume designer and longtime Burner Geo�rey Nelson. Bring in old clothes to decorate or barter with and light up an outfit of your own creation using leds, el wire, Glowbys, glowsticks, and black-light reactive makeup. Geo�rey Nelson

JEWELRY: ART CLAY SILVER Saturday, April 30 / 10 am – 5 pm

Create three silver metal clay jewelry projects, learning a variety of basic techniques. Gain a working knowledge of lump, paste and syringe clay, as well as simple stone settings. One project will be fired with a torch and other firings will be done in an electric kiln. A $75 materials fee is due to the instructor at the beginning of class — this includes all materials including silver and tools. PIN STRIPING

Saturday & Sunday, April 2-3 / 10 am – 4 pm

Learn how to create a custom look for car or motorcycle exteriors using freehand pin striping. Learn stroke technique that uses pin striping, lettering, and script brushes along with enamel paint and gold/silver leafing on aluminum sheets. Get tips on enhancing your design and layout and create scrolling designs. A $100 materials fee is due to the instructor the first day of the class — no additional materials are required. SCAVENGER HUNT: A MIXED MEDIA COLLAGE WORKSHOPSaturday, April 2 / 10 am – 4 pm

Create your own mixed media/collage project based on color, shape and pattern. Start a collection or photograph things you notice: leaves on the sidewalk, light and shadow on snow, or colors of a sunset. Integrate objects with di�erent media to create beautiful, unique, and expressive projects. personalize your vision with your own art supplies, collage materials, and photographs. CLAY: EARTHWORKS Thursdays, April 28 – June 2 / 6 – 9 pm

Learn the art of making forms in clay to create your own decorative or functional pottery. This six-week course covers hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques. Students will be introduced to various finishing techniques such as decorating, stamping, painting, and staining of clay in addition to glazing and learning about the clay firing process. Clay, glazes, and clay tools will be provided by the Museum and all works will be fired in the Museum’s kiln. Karen Vetter

PAINTING: ACRYLIC LANDSCAPESMondays, June 6 – July 18 (no class 7/4) 6 – 9 pm

Using acrylic paints, work from photo references to create ideal natural scenes or represent your favorite places. Paint mountains, lakes, streams, meadows, rock formations, waterfalls, and trees while learning how to increase texture, depth, contrast, and color. PAINTING I: OILSThursdays, April 21 – May 26 / 6 - 9 pm

Learn the basics of painting using traditional oils and gain a working knowledge of equipment, supports, brush selection, brushwork, color mixing and mediums. Classes consist of lecture, demonstrations and painting from a still life. Students will explore using media without solvents—walnut oil and rags will be used for brush cleaning after each lesson. REGISTRATIONPre-registration is required. Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until maximum class size is reached. Classes are limited in size. Early registration is recommended.

CANCELLATION POLICYStudents needing to withdraw from a class after registering may receive a tuition refund less a $5 administrative fee if the Museum is notified five business days before the first session of class. No refunds thereafter.

SCHOLARSHIPSScholarships are available to students of all ages for e. l. Cord Museum School classes due to a generous grant from the e. l. Cord Foundation. CLASS LOCATIONMost classes are held at the e. l. Cord Museum School, located at the Nevada Museum of Art, Donald W. Reynolds Center for the Visual Arts, e. l. Wiegand Gallery at 160 West Liberty Street in downtown Reno. Students should enter the School through the outdoor gate to the left of the doors marked “e. l. Cord Museum School and employee and security entrance.” These doors are located to the south end of the building and can be seen from the parking lot. Driving directions for classes hosted o�-site will be made available to students at the time of registration.
