MISSION STATEMENT: Committed to serving the retirees and senior citizens age 55 and older in our community.

Our goal is to encourage, educate, assist, and enhance life in retirement. We aim to provide the tools necessary to live a

quality-filled and healthier life as one ages; promoting interaction between generations by exchanging skills, values and

experiences.

MEET SPOTLIGHT MEMBER:

Story compiled by: Marjory Lapadura

My name is Patricia.. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, I went to Boarding School in North Carolina

for my High School experience. My mother who was Director of Employee Training at

Gouveneur Hospital in NYC, decided to “save me from myself” after I developed a bit of a wild

streak. She was right as this turned out to be a great learning experience, it gave me a sense of myself

and the skills that I needed to survive.

After a gap year and after not being accepted in Nursing Schools, which was my heart’s desire,

I went to Bowie State University in Maryland and majored in Physical Therapy, which was the closest to

Nursing I could get. It was here that I met my husband and together we had two children, my son & my

daughter. We were married for 17 years.

After this I moved back to Brooklyn and had two more sons before moving to Orange County,

where I continued raising my family. I worked for 10 years in Emergency Housing and Section 8 Housing

before having a car accident which totally changed my life. A painful recovery behind me, I found out

about the Senior Employment Program which brought me in touch with Mulberry House. I am now

able to serve as their “greeter” and love it! I’ve met wonderful people and friends. The atmosphere is

lovely and as a result I feel so alive. It keeps a smile on my face.

Never underestimate the power of the Lord. God is good!!!
