In the second chapter of the book
of Acts, Luke recounts how the very
first church came into existence:
They devoted themselves to the
apostles' teaching and to the
fellowship, to the breaking of bread
and to prayer. Everyone was filled
with awe, and many wonders and
miraculous signs were done by the
apostles. All the believers were
together and had everything in
common. Selling their possessions
and goods, they gave to anyone as he
had need. Every day they continued to
meet together in the temple courts.
They broke bread in their homes and
ate together with glad and sincere
hearts, praising God and enjoying the
favor of all the people. And the Lord
added to their number daily those
who were being saved. Acts 2:40-47
What we learn here is that the
church is people who, as they follow
Jesus in their own lives, live in
community with one another.
Community means supporting one
another, loving one another, helping
one another, accepting one another,
having fun with one another,
learning from one another ... because
of Jesus. The church is a community
created by Jesus, and that's what
we're trying to build here at Mt. Zion
Christian Church.
This month we have many
opportunities for you to grow deeper in
your fellowship with this community.
On Monday, October 3rd the Ladies
Fellowship is taking gift bags to a local
nursing home. They meet on the first
Monday of every month at 6:30 p.m.
On October 8th, our missions team is
hosting a Hog Roast here at the church.
The supper will begin at 5:30 p.m.
followed by the movie “Soul Surfer” in
our sanctuary. This will be a really fun
evening, and I’m sure the food will be
delicious!
On October 15th, I am leading our
monthly Men’s Prayer Breakfast. Men,
this is a great time to get to know some
other guys in our church. Breakfast is
freshly made and delicious, but most
importantly we spend time petitioning
our heavenly Father on behalf of our
church family, leaders, our youth and
community. Men, let me encourage you
to mark your calendars every third
Saturday from 8-9 a.m.
Every Tuesday afternoon from 1-3
p.m. our Quilters meet to make quilts for
various missions that we support.
Check our newsletter for even more
opportunities to grow in your
relationships with your church family.
The early Christians devoted themselves
to the apostles' teaching and to the
fellowship, to the breaking of bread and
to prayer. Let me encourage you to do
the same.

The Mission Team is
beginning to collect hats and
gloves for the homeless so we
will be able to get these
delivered before the cold
weather comes. A container
will be placed in the
fellowship hall for the
collection.
The Mission Team has started a
weekly food drive to collect
nonperishable items for the food
baskets. It may be the first of
October, but in order to make
Thanksgiving possible for the less
fortunate the
baskets will
need to be
delivered in
just 8 weeks.
