Get ready for a new season of diverse and exciting music from the

College of Music, including chamber, contemporary, opera, major

choral, orchestral, jazz and band productions, guest recitals, and

our distinguished artist-faculty recital series, which is sponsored

by WKAR.

We are pleased to once again offer the MSU Federal Credit Union

Showcase Series beginning with a BrassWorks Showcase in

September. In the fall and winter, popular guest ensemble Brooklyn

Rider string quartet and holiday shows Handel’s Messiah and A Jazzy

Little Christmas will be presented. Then, once again, our renowned

faculty pianists will finish the season with Piano Monster. Annual

favorites include the Joanne and Bill Church West Circle Series, Cello

Plus Chamber Music Festival, MSUFCU Jazz Artists in Residence

concerts, Jazz Spectacular, and Musique 21—something for every

musical taste!

I am hoping you will join us regularly, and I encourage you to try

something different this season to expand your musical horizons.

Music is, as said by Stevie Wonder, a world within itself with a

language we all understand.

One of the most performed operas in the world today, Donizetti’s romp tells the story of Nemorino, a poor bumpkin who loves the wealthy and imperious Adina. When Adina is courted by the puffed-up Sergeant Belcore, Nemorino goes in search of a love potion. Armed with liquid courage, he suddenly becomes popular and Adina realizes she actually does love him. Featuring the world famous tenor aria “Una furtiva lagrima” and a host of other great melodies, this opera will be sung in Italian with English surtitles.

MUSIQUE 21 is a project-based group with flexible

instrumentation that focuses on new works. Utilizing a

variety of media including theatre, film, and movement, this troupe pushes the

envelope of what a 21st century performance can be. Creating a new performance

style that can only be called a “Theatre of Music,” it is enthusiastically celebrated

by audiences and critics alike.

BANDSMSU BANDS perform the full spectrum of wind

repertoire including chamber music. The Wind

Symphony is comprised of graduate and upper-division undergraduate students

and performs works that require as few as six players as well as the full 55-member

ensemble. Conducted by Kevin L. Sedatole, the group presents six concerts

during the academic year with additional national performances. The Symphony

Band consists of upper division undergraduate music majors. Conducted by John

Madden, this ensemble maintains an active performance schedule. Concert Band

consists of undergraduate music majors and non-majors. This ensemble presents

four concerts during the academic year and is conducted by David Thornton.

Campus Band provides playing opportunities for non-music majors campus wide

and gives two concerts per semester.
