ELIGIBILITY Resident and non-resident adults are welcome to enroll in classes. There is an additional $5.00 charge for non-residents. High school students are only allowed to register for the ACT & SAT Prep Classes.
REGISTRATION Registrations will be processed in the order in which they are received. Many classes have capacity limits and minimum requirements, so register early to avoid the disappointment of closed or cancelled classes.
Deadline for all forms of registration for the Spring 2020 is 2/5/20
MAIL-IN REGISTRATION Complete and follow the directions on the registration form in this catalog.
IN-PERSON REGISTRATION Wednesday, February 5, 2020 from 5:30 PM – 7:00PM at BHS Main Office.
REFUNDS Payments for cancelled and closed classes will be refunded. Refunds will not be given after the class has begun. Refunds will only be given for insufficient enrollment.

CONFIRMATION/CANCELLATIONS/SHORTENED CLASSES Please check the catalog for class start dates and times. You will only be notified if we are unable to register you for your chosen class.
PLEASE NOTE: Classes may not be able to meet or need to be rescheduled due to school activities or unforeseen events. An email will be sent out as soon as possible. Classes with low enrollment may be shortened rather than cancelled (with no price reduction).

INSURANCE
The Baldwin School District is not liable for accidents that may occur while participants are engaged in Continuing Education program activities.
WEATHER/EMERGENCY CLOSING
If classes need to be cancelled due to inclement weather, such closings will be posted on our website and on News 12 Long Island.
LOCATION/DIRECTIONS
Most classes are held at Baldwin High School. (See course descriptions for exceptions.) Directions to all buildings are available on our website. A district map is available on the inside cover of this catalog.
SENIORVERSITY
Senior citizens who are 60 years of age and residents of Baldwin are able to obtain a Baldwin Gold Card. Courses with an asterisk (*) next to the course title will receive a 10% discount with the Baldwin Gold Card. The Baldwin Gold Card may be obtained at the Public Information Office at 960 Hastings Street, Baldwin, NY. (434-6012)

This course is designed for those who have the basic skills to play volleyball. It will focus on intermediate skills, strategies and organized play. Games will be played on the first night; bring your sneakers. Anyone starting a fitness routine should consult with a physician first. PICKLEBALL Instructor: Sharon Payne
Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the USA. It combines many elements of Table Tennis, Badminton, and Pingpong. It is played on a Badminton sized court and a slightly modified tennis net, with a paddle and slow moving plastic ball with holes. Course is best for intermedi-ate level players. Paddles are available but bringing your own is best. *Note that in the event of inclement weather and gym space is needed for students, class may be cancelled at the last minute and rescheduled* LIMIT: 16 Per Session

Yoga is a wonderful way to reduce stress, increase strength, tone muscle, cultivate flexibility and improve overall health. As you flow through poses, this class fosters clarity between mind and body. It is a discipline that utilizes posture & breathing techniques to open your heart and ignite your fire. Students are required to bring a yoga mat.

Zumba is a combination of Latin dance and fitness! You’ll firm your entire body, utilizing easy to follow moves that incorporate cardio exercise, interval training and dance. It provides benefits for both body and mind. Zumba combines low-impact, high-energy dance moves with intervals of fast and slow rhythms. ASL: American Sign Language Instructor: Andie Floresta
While some may have a deaf child or family member, many simply love lan-guages and want to learn ASL. Whatever your reason for enrolling, we can promise you a very dynamic and engaging learning experience. Course in-structors are Deaf and fluent ASL users. Our classes are small and encourage full participation in a fun and conversational setting. While you work to devel-op an ASL vocabulary & understanding of the language, you will also be learn-ing about Deaf culture & history.

E.S.L./E.N.L. (Basic/Beginner) Instructor: TBA
English Language Learners with a limited knowledge of English will be taught Basic English Language Skills. Lessons will include the alphabet, numbers, & beginner spelling and pronunciation. Students will study common vocabulary words and phrases. When a basic knowledge of English is established, les-sons will focus on developing basic reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills, & simple verb tenses. Students will be taught to understand simple con-versation and short written communication. Guaranteed verbal communica-tion in every session.

This course will cover Infant/Child/Adult CPR skills, choking, stroke, use of Pocket Face Mask, use of Automatic External Defibrillator, Foreign Body Air-way Obstruction, signs/symptoms of a heart attack, and cardiac and breathing emergencies. LIMIT: 10 Students
