BURSARIES

With tertiary education fast becoming a staple requirement for entering the workforce as companies demand higher levels of skilled, certified or accredited candidates for employment. The unemployed and often cash strapped youth (along with their parents/guardians) are often overwhelmed by the insurmountable costs associated with these training programmes.

To this end, MSC Business College awards bursaries worth over R1.5 million every year, helping South Africans overcome financial barriers, building brighter futures for tomorrow’s leaders. A limited number of bursaries are allocated to each of our nationwide campuses, and are in turn awarded to eligible individuals.

While much of the bursary programme’s emphasis is on financial assistance for matriculants going into their 1st year of study, it also focuses on assisting existing students to complete their 2nd or 3rd year of study.

MySIME

MSC Business College is actively seeking to partner with various Employers, nationwide, on this initiative with a view to placing not only our Bursary learners, but also Artisans and Graduates in the workplace in the form of internship, apprenticeship or learnership programmes. By placing these learners within your work environment, they will be able to gain the necessary practical skills, earn a stipend or wage allowing them to start making meaningful

contributions within their families and communities while completing their studies.

MSC is committed to providing our learners with more than just a qualification as is evident from our MySIME initiative. MySIME is a MSC unique offering that allows our learners to gain the necessary workplace experience, related to their training programme, in a simulated work environment.

Each MSC campus has a specifically designated area that houses the various MySIME simulated workplace i.e. departments, offices and each student is required to work on various business projects gaining the generic practical and soft skills.

MSC differs from other education institutions and training providers in that we offer learners both theoretical knowledge as well as relevant practical skills training that allows for character development and work readiness induction.

CORPORATE TRAINING

MSC Business College supports the Government’s skills development and youth employment initiatives. In line with this, MSC offers a number of work readiness, skills and short courses that are aimed at school leavers as well as employed learners.

Qualifying companies are able to either apply for grant funding or claim back tax rebates and wage subsidies for training and learnership programmes undertaken by them. To this end, we are able to provide prospective Employers, as a value added service, access to our learner database of graduates who have recently completed their studies and are now seeking employment, as well as assess to a pool of pre-screened school leavers who are eager to participate in either a Learnership or Work Readiness Programme.

Our own MSC Bursary Programme and continuous pledge to providing quality learning that includes the development of Mind Skill Character development within our Learners is evidence of our commitment to providing the workforce with high quality Learners who are able to make valuable contributions to the workplace, their own personal growth and development as well as the economy of South Africa.

MSC is a multi-SETA accredited training provider with sound experience in implementing, executing and controlling Learnerships, Internships and Work Readiness Training Programmes.

SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AT MSC BUSINESS COLLEGE

The short supply of skilled staff is a serious obstacle to the competitiveness

of industry in South Africa. The Skills Development Act of 1998 aims to:

Develop skills for the South African workforce;

Increase investment in education and training, and improve return on

investments in those areas;

Encourage employers to promote skills development by using the workplace

as an active learning environment;

Encourage workers to participate in learnership and other training

programmes;

Improve employment prospects by redressing previous disadvantages through

training and education;

Ensure the quality of education and training in and for the workplace, and

Assist with the placement of first time work seekers.

Page 13: MSC_Company_Profile_2015_Updated_DIGITAL

MSC Business College 13 Company Profile 2015

The skills development levy, legislated through the Skills Development Levies Act, 1999, serves to fund the skills development initiative in the country. The

intention is to:

Encourage a planned and structured approach to learning;

Increase employment prospects for work seekers.

Allow fully participating employers to benefit from incentives and to reap the

benefits of a better skilled and more productive workforce.

The levy is calculated as 1% of your wage bill, payable monthly. All employers who are registered with the South African Revenue Service (SARS) for PAYE and have an annual payroll in excess of R500 000 must register with SARS to pay for the skills development levy.

MSC Education Holdings (Pty) Ltd is a Level TWO Contributor. Our element categories

are: Socio-Economic, Enterprise and Skills Development as well as Employment Equity.
