Welcome To Back To School Night

Welcome To Back To School NightMs. MolleGrade 1

Let me introduce myself . . .My name is Ann Molle, and I live in Levittown with my family. This is my 20th year with Neshaminy. My goals for the children are to promote independence, respect, tolerance, and self-confidence. These goals are achieved through development of a classroom community.

Ill talk more about this community building as we go through our Daily Schedule. I will speak to your children as I would want my children spoken to. I will also expect them to work hard, do their best, and be respectful. I will be encouraging, positive, comforting, and firm but fair. 2Social CurriculumResponsive ClassroomAn approach that integrates teaching, learning, and caring in the daily programSix components (Classroom Organization, Morning Meeting, Rules & Logical Consequences, Academic Choice, Guided Discovery, Assessment and Reporting)Set in the context of commonly shared values (honesty, fairness, and respect)Develop and strengthens social skills (Cooperation, Assertion, Responsibility, Empathy, Self-Control)

Responsive Classroom is a philosophy. It requires the teacher to view her students as having the ability to make good decisions.3Daily ScheduleA.M.9:009:15 Children arrive, check in, get ready for the day

W.I.L.T. (What I Learned Today) is designed as an organizational and communication tool between home and school.Word Work homework will be done directly in the W.I.L.T. book.

I encourage note writing between school and home in W.I.L.T. However, absent notes must be written on a separate piece of paper. **Website will offer weekly homework postings, however, there are times when assignments need to be changed so defer to W.I.L.T. first.10Daily ScheduleP.M.12:301:00Literacy Block Read Aloud/Writers WorkshopListening ComprehensionVocabulary BuildingModel Think Alouds and other StrategiesGUEST READERS

Through the use of mentor texts and specifically designed mini-lessons, children will be exposed to a variety of genres, authors craft, as well as the writing process. Most importantly . . . Your child will write every day!

Be sure to sign up to be a Guest Reader. Times can be flexible to meet your lunch/work schedule. Share black socks song and slippers routine.New Writers Notebook this year!!! PSSA testing requires children to write how they came to their answer. Requires more thinking than memorizing. There is more number sense and mental math. Less content and greater depth. Math facts must be understood before children can learn them automatically. Monthly math calendar will be sent home at the beginning of the month to be completed each night. This is optional but highly recommended.12

13Dreambox and Think Central

DreamboxChildren should be encouraged to play at least 3x a week for 30 minutes. Limit the time in the arcade and carnival. No one should play on your childs login.

Think CentralYou are able to access your childs text and workbook online as well as virtual manipulatives. See separate sheets for login and password information. Students will work in Dreambox during their Computer period as well as at home. Think Central access is intended for a review not to go ahead before instruction is given in the classroom. Take a look at the letter that explains Standards Based Grading. Also, you will see that I have included an early sample of an extended response question that students will see and be asked to respond to in writing or by verbalizing their answer to me.14Daily ScheduleP.M.--continued2:052:45Special
