Arrival &Dismissal
● Doors open from 8:45-9:00● Breakfast is served from 8:45-9:00● Any changes in dismissal should be
written in a note to the teacher or called in to the main office prior to dismissal
Arrival &Dismissal
● Students can arrive for school at the Main Entrance of East Street School.
● Mrs. Farrell and Ms. Velasquez dismiss their walkers (parent pickup) at the door that is located inside the little playground.
● Ms. Ficke dismisses her walkers (parent pick up) at the door next to the little playground.
Lunch & Recess
● Lunch 11:05-11:35, Recess 11:35-12:05● Students can purchase lunch or bring
lunch from home● Please alert the nurse of any food related
allergies/concerns● Recess will be outside weather permitting
(dress appropriately)

school day is :○ Whole group/small group instruction○ Special Area Classes (art, library,

Kindergarten● Please try your best to be on time each day
for arrival and dismissal. ● Students lunch and snack should be labeled
clearly with your child’s name. (Many students have similar lunch boxes)
● Please have a separate box/bag for your child’s snack.
● Parent phone numbers and emails should be up to date and accurate.

Kindergarten● As the year progresses we will work on students
becoming independent, however it is important that in September your child is able to:○ use the bathroom independently○ close any buttons/zippers on their
clothes (Teacher will help zip coats!)○ ask for help when they need it ○ write their first name
● Leave an extra set of clothes in backpack in case of any accidents

The school supply list will be mailed to your home in August. You can also find it on the Hicksville Public Schools Website under East Street
School. Please have students arrive to their first day of school with their supplies, all labeled with their name on it.

Offered to students who have been screened and identified as an:
● ELL (English Language Learners) being offered ENL (English as a New Language) services.
● Home Language is Spanish
Follows all Kindergarten standards and curriculum with additional Spanish/English Crossover Language Arts classes.

the School Psychologist ● The School Psychologist helps children succeed
academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally.● I collaborate with teachers, parents, and other
school staff to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community for all students.
● The School Psychologist coordinates special education services and conducts the testing required for Initials as well as Re-evaluation for the Committee on Special Education.

the School Psychologist ● Over the Summer activities to build children's social
emotional skills:Play different games with your children to help them learn to take turns, follow directions, lose, win etc.
Remind your child of something that they first learned to do like ride a bike, learn to swim etc. and that it was difficult at first however, with practice they got better.
Talk about emotions and feelings with your children by making a feelings book, doing role plays, discussing how a character feels in a movie etc.

● When student is absent please call the Nurse (733-2325) or the Main Office (733-2321)
● Stay home if not feeling well● Must be fever free for 24 hours before
returning to school● If students are out for more than 2 or 3 days
students will need a doctor’s note or test results to return to school.
● Send your child to school with an extra set of clothes

● All medications MUST be dropped off by an adult. ● It SHOULD NOT come to school with the child. ● Please alert the nurse with any allergies or medical
issues your child may have. (Forms for medication can be found on the school website.)
● Student immunizations must be up to date. ● Please answer your phone when the nurse calls, it
could be related to illness or emergency! ● At this time we do not have any guidance on mask
mandates for September.
