Mrs. Elizabeth Grapes—Book Signing Liz Grapes was inspired one day to write a chil-dren’s book “ABCs by Jesus and Me.” Come meet her on Sun., Sept. 24 in Fr. Adrian Hall between the morning Masses for a book-signing event. Liz wrote her book as a tool for parents to show their little ones that Jesus is the center of all things. She is the mother of five. By the grace of Our Lady, and the healing waters of Lourdes, Liz is a survivor of two terminal illnesses. She would love to share her book with you.

“Signs In the Heavens” A talk by Bryan Walsh
Sun., Sept. 17, 1 pm, in Fr. Adrian Hall. Find out what remarkable coincidence of heavenly bodies, i.e. sun, moon, planets, and stars, will soon happen in the sky. Some of what is about to occur is biblical in its propor-tions, and unprecedented in history. N.B. This is as-tronomy, not astrology.
Altar Server Practice
Sat. Sept. 23, 1-4 pm. Rosary 1-1:30 pm, practice 1:30-3 pm, and a game 3-4 pm. No lunch will be provided, but the priests will provide a snack.
Men Needed for Schola
The Schola sings at the High Mass every Sunday, as
well as on feast days. Experienced singers are strongly encouraged to join, but no prior experience is required. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings at 7:30 pm, begin-ning Sept. 6. Please contact David Pedersen at the par-ish office for more information.
Youth Schola
All youth in the parish who are in second grade or old-er are invited to join the Youth Schola. The choir sings on numerous Sundays and feast days throughout the year. In the context of sacred liturgical music, the sing-ers learn healthy singing techniques, how to read music notation and many other musical skills. Rehearsals are Wednesday afternoons from 3:30-4:00PM, begin-ning September 27. All are welcome and there is no fee to participate. Please contact David Pedersen at the parish office for more information.
The Marriage Course
This 7 evening presentation creates an atmosphere wherein couples can learn to communicate with each other all over again. Fridays from 6:45 to 9 pm, Sept.
29 thru Nov. 17, (except Oct. 13). See information sheets and Registration Envelopes on the back table.
Dear Parishioners, When Adam and Eve were dismissed from the Para-dise of Pleasure, they had not yet conceived their first child. A fateful Friday. Cain’s birth—the first birth ever—was as miraculous and joyful as it is today. However, can you imagine the sorrow that accompa-nied it? The parents love of the child did not reopen those guarded gates. The world was now a hostile place; within seconds Cain was crying; their choice caused it to be so! The pains of childbirth included pains of conscience. In addition, the sweat of Adam’s brow would be necessary to provide for the newborn. The good news of genesis is that the seed of the woman—eventually—would be powerful. Power-ful enough to contend with the serpent. Powerful enough to be victorious! Paradise was not lost forev-er; security would return! Speaking of financial security, I need to com-mend your generosity and thank you for your thought-fulness. You have supplied the resources to take care of the parish, and even to carry out our recent renova-tions. Since buildings, and roofs and parking lots are constantly falling apart, there’s always more to do. We can blame Adam for this. We are currently preparing an annual finan-cial report to summarize the last fiscal year which end-ed June 30. In the meantime, we have expanded this bulletin’s weekly financial update. Please refer to the “Sunday Offertory” box on the reverse side. The “Operation” and “Capital Improvement” collections are the major sources of revenue for the parish, which account for about 92% of the annual budget. Some additional revenue is received in other categories, such as legacies, rent, stole fees, flowers, Catholic Virginian, etc., but they are not reported here. The collection is published for the previous Sunday, as well as the total fiscal Year-To-Date. These numbers are compared to the budgeted amounts for the same period. The Surplus or (Deficit) column of this chart makes clear how we are doing according to our budg-et. If you have questions, please—since he’s now back—call Fr. Gordon. Thank you again. God love you,
Fr. Novokowsky, fssp
