Happy spring everybody. Yes, i know it really hasn’t felt like spring yet, but it is officially here. the first few outdoor races have come and gone and hopefully with them the rains and the chilly air too. it’s time to get serious and get down to some racing without having to hide in the trailer all day just to stay warm and dry.

by the time you are reading this issue, all of our local race series will have kicked off. You won’t see any mAmA or D7 races until next issue though, as they started after our deadline for this issue. if you are an off-road racer, you can look for some of those series openers in the next issue as well. mother Nature was not kind anywhere in early march, and some events had to be postponed.

We hope you all like our new full-color format. our area offers some of the best racing available in the entire country so we felt you should get the best looking publication around too. other changes for 2011 include direct mail distribution to all mDrA card holders, and both mAmA and District 7 have renewed their contracts as well. We are also ramping up our distribution efforts at local harescramble events too; watch for complimentary issues at all e c e A , Neoc and PA State Harecramble Series races.

this month mrA would like to feature charlie Wernig as our mAmA Hotshot. even though i don’t personally attend a lot of mAmA events, i noticed charlie at the 2010 Awards banquet. i kept hearing his name as he came up to humbly accept his many awards on the evening. in addition to his class championships, charlie was also one of the recipients of the Steve mcQueen award, which goes out to the top “A” riders on the year. i did a little investigating and found out that charlie’s sister, Annie, can also get the job done on the racetrack and that the Wernigs make racing a true family experience. charlie is moving directly into the amateur divisions this year, and his goal is to do his best and train hard for a run at a Loretta’s National championship in 2012. Keep your eyes on this young man as he works his way through the season. my bet is you’ll see him leading the pack on more than one Sunday. mrA wishes the best of luck to the entire Wernig Family in their 2011 racing efforts, and please tune in next month; maybe you’ll be the next mAmA Hotshot.

miss Lauren Plate is our mDrA Hotshot for the month of April. We’ve been watching this girl who likes to “beat the boys” race since she first got started way back in the 50cc oil division. Lauren has improved consistently over the last couple of years and is a challenge to any racer, whether boy or girl, on any given Sunday. No doubt her whole family loves to ride both bikes and quads and can be found competing at different motorsports events around the area. Lauren said she loves to race because it’s fun and she likes to show the guys that girls can do well at the sport too. When Lauren’s not on the track racing she likes to collect things and she also asked that we thank the Hushons and Dave at Woods riders for all the help they give her. So if you haven’t already, check out this young lady racing the bright orange Ktm. She’s usually not hard to find, just look in the front of the pack. What a show! Action-packed arenacross racing, standing room only and enough exhaust fumes to satisfy any motor head’s wildest fantasies. i always look forward to this event each year, as it kicks off the new race season here in the District 6 region.

this year’s event was sure to satisfy. With close to 400 entries, the racing action was outstanding. classes ranged from the smallest 50cc bikes right on up to some of the fastest racers in the country participating in the expert divisions. National # 96 Lowell Spangler was on hand to take a win in Sunday’s expert bike racing, and in the quad divisions past national # 1 riders like Dustin Wimmer and Jason Dunkelberger were on hand to the crowd’s delight. Wimmer would put on a riding clinic inside the tight motorama arena, sweeping (4) Pro divisions.

to the racers’ delight this year’s event came with a change in the track layout. the course was similar as to years past but this time they changed the direction of the racing. At first many thought it to be a bad idea, but after racing the course most racers that i talked to seemed to like it much better than the past years’ layout. Props to the promoters for trying something new; it seems it was a huge success.

motorama consists of two days of racing with champions crowned in individual classes for each day’s event. this year we

saw 28 different classes take to the track, with multiple divisions in some of the quad classes for qualifying. the 4 Wheel open c class had so many entries they had to offer two main events on each day, with racers from all over the mid-Atlantic region coming to participate.

We also had a first this year, making motorama history. it was the first time in 33 years that they offered a Women’s division at this event. miss tonya mantsch would win both days of racing, but on top of that would be crowned miss motorama 2011 as well. tonya is a senior in high school and races out of the western PA area. She was super excited not only to win her classes but to take home the title of miss motorama.

in addition to the great racing that goes on at this show, attendees were able to visit industry vendors who had great deals on gear and apparel. there were car shows and beauty pageants; there was rc car and Quarter midget racing, as well as everybody’s favorite – robot conflict.

For 2011, the motorama events staff also brought in a new charity for the event. After years of raising money for the Spina bifida Association they changed gears and brought in Foundation 529. For those of you not familiar with the foundation, it involves a local family that helps provide protective head and neck gear for kids who might not otherwise be able to afford it. they began

their foundation after the loss of their son to a practice accident three years ago. the mission is to help protect the youth, one helmet at a time. if you gave at the show, they thank you. if you missed a chance to help, you can catch up with them at many events around the area or you can contact them at Foundation529@verizon.net.

Bill Sommer opens the show taking the 4 wheel Open B wins on both days. Johnson was back in the 12” Pit Bike division, winning both days’ racing.

Troy Leatherman was on the gas winning three out of four 50cc titles at Motorama 2011.

Tonya Montsch made history being the first rider ever to win a Women’s Class at

Motorama. Matter of fact she won two, then went on to win the Miss Motorama

Crown. What a weekend!

Kawasaki pilot Trevor Pritchard won Junior Mini both days and 85cc (12-

15) on Saturday night.

Travis Wotring dominated the youth quad divisions and will be a force to be reckoned with

in a few years in the adult divisions.

the 2011 mDrA race Series launched as usual at the budds creek motocross Park on the first weekend of march. typical for this time of the year the weather is always a factor, and this year would be no exception. the weather forecasters spoke all of the preceding week of the massive storm that was to envelope the entire east coast, and everyone anticipated the worst. Kids take note here; if you don’t know what you want to do when you grow up, please consider becoming a meteorologist. it’s probably the only career in the world that you can mess up all the time and not get yelled at by your boss and still make $60,000 a year. that’ll pay for a lot of motocross racing.

the mDrA always offers a Saturday practice the day before the race event, and just over 100 brave souls made the trek to get in some valuable seat time prior to the series kicking off. Wow, what a day. Again, blame the weatherman, but what a perfect opportunity to ride. the rain didn’t come, and track conditions were near perfect, with temps in the 60s and no mud -- great conditions for early march. Some riders stayed, and others left as the rain was supposed to move in heavy Saturday night into all day Sunday. Again, wrong. riders awoke, and the race day began, and the rain held off until the second motos. the attendance was low, but the racing went off and the series begins.

Yes, i was one of those that lost faith and headed for dryer ground. oh well, there’s always next time. the series has three stops in April beginning at tomahawk the first week of the month, then on to Happy ramblers and Doublin Gap. the first round of the 2011 eceA enduro Series was held on march 13th in Port elizabeth, NJ. the tri-county Sportsman motorcycle club (tcSmc) put on their 45th running of the Greenbrier enduro. thursday’s rain made for a dust-free race day that was enjoyed by over 200 racers. the course consisted of more than 70 miles of flowing single track.

the fifth check of the day would prove to be the difference for the overall, with Jeff Pasqua edging out Dane Schoeneberg by one minute. third overall would go

to Jim Senecal who was just two minutes back. High Point A honors went to Joe Giordano, 4 minutes back. High Point b and c would go to chris Paling and eric Githens, respectively.

DELAWARE ENDURO RIDERS FIRST HARE SCRAMBLESSUNDAY ONLY APRIL 10TH ON THE C&D CANAL PROPERTY

THE COURSE features all newly cut trails featuring the only phragmitis sections in the world. The Course is fast, fun and friendly, an absolute joy to ride. There is no need for bark busters or hand guards. The start will be on a large grass fi eld with a ¼ mile run to the trails, all of which have been cut and manicured with a tractor and brush-hog. No Motocross Course.

SPECIAL 50 CC EVENT event starts at 8:00 AM, new two mile course offering three 50 cc divisions.

THE PEEWEE AND YOUTH events both start at 9:30 AM on Sunday with separate courses, same scoringlocation and same pit area. The PeeWee event will run for one hour and Youth will run for 1.5 hours. The coursesare all wide trails with no motocross track. Don’t miss this event! This is a true Hare Scrambles Course to determine who are the best riders in their respective classes.

THE C-CLASS event starts at 11:30 AM and will run on the 6-mile Youth course for 1.5 hours. Masters, Golden Masters and women will run this event.

THE EVENT FOR A AND B CLASSES starts at 2:00 PM and will use the 6-mile youth course plus the 3-mile mini course and another 2.0 miles of extra special terrain thrown in for good measure and bench racing purposes. These courses are utilized once a year, so they are not beaten up.

So you want to win some races?i hear this all the time as i talk to racers and their families. How can i go faster, if i could

just catch so and so, if i could only get a good sponsor? isn’t it most people’s goal to come out and do the best they possibly can? many are chasing the pie in the sky, but for some, that’s not the case. i know many racers that come out just to enjoy the ride, maybe to spend some quality time with their family and friends and to enjoy relaxing on a Sunday at the local track.

For those of you on that mission, i applaud you. motocross and off-road racing can be some of the best times spent in your lifetime. it’s a productive way to stay in shape while having some fun with the people you love.

For others that are chasing the dream, however, it can be all business. much time and money is spent on achieving better results. many go out and spend money on making more horsepower and having better equipment. riders go to the gym to improve their physical strength, and they home school so they can ride every day and many spend countless hours in the offseason running up and down the coast to get that valuable ride time. All necessary factors in becoming a champion, and i endorse it all. many though have not figured out the most important element for success, and that’s what i want to talk to you about today.

Drum roll please: it’s your attitude and your ability to believe that you too can be a winner, your mental strength. Now i know many of you are laughing at me right now. tell me something i don’t know you’re thinking to yourself. Here’s the problem though; most of you already know this important part of the process. unfortunately you either don’t practice this or you don’t know how to improve your thought processes, and thirdly, here is the most unfortunate reason you haven’t mastered this solution to being able to go faster: there is someone or a group of people in your life that is unintentionally keeping you from getting better.

Now, don’t blame them. they probably don’t even realize that they are doing it because they’ve never been taught about the power of belief either. We all go through our busy lives, and we are surrounded by gloom and doom. turn on the tV or open a newspaper, and what do you get - catastrophe everywhere. the problem is that every negative fact that we put in our brain stays there forever. Your brain is the largest computer on the planet, and it files and stores information for you to use at a future time, whether good or bad. So here we go, you put garbage in – you get garbage out.

to be able to take it to the next level, you have to do all those things i talked about above because everybody else is doing them. but to be better than the next guy, to take it one step further, you’ve got to get your head right. if you want to be a champion, you’ve got to make some changes in your thought processes. For some, it won’t be easy, but if you know how to do it and you’re willing to work hard at it, it’s a piece of cake.

the first step in the process is to believe you can. So many times in life i’ve heard people say, “i’ll have to see it to believe it.” i once heard a very wise man say, “First you have to believe it, then you’ll see it.” it’s so true, how many times has someone told you, ”you’ll never catch that guy” or you think to yourself “i don’t think i can get the holeshot with all these fast guys here.” then what happens? exactly what was spoken or thought. You need to have confidence in yourself that you can accomplish the things that matter to you, no matter what anyone else says. if you have to, get away from the people that are saying these things around you. it may not always be comfortable, but just excuse yourself and let them know that you are training and you need to get going. they don’t need to know that it is mental training you are talking about.

Here is an exercise you can do at home. make a list of 10 things that you want to become a reality. things like, i’m getting faster every day, i love getting the holeshot, i’m superfast in corners, school work is easy, etc., etc. You pick them; they are your desires. then make a couple of copies of this list and place them where you’ll see them on a regular basis, places like your bedroom mirror, or on the refrigerator, maybe inside your math book. Now read this list a minimum of three times a day out loud. it is very important that you read it out loud because it is more believable for you to not only think it, but to hear it out loud. eventually you’ll memorize your list, and you can repeat it over and over as you go through your day. Don’t let anyone make fun of you for the things you have on your list, and don’t let anybody convince you that you are crazy or that you’re not going to get better by reading your list out loud to yourself over and over again.

Do this every day, and i guarantee that you will improve your riding skills in no time at all. the list should only have around ten items on it, but you can have as many lists as you want. So go ahead and try it, what do you have to lose? the worst thing that could happen is that you get better at even one of the things on your list.

this month we caught up with local D6 racing legend casey clark. Yes, legend is a term i’ve used to describe casey because he is just that. casey grew up racing the local scene, and it didn’t take long for everyone to realize that this kid had some talent. matter of fact, he started on a four wheeler and did oK with that, but he soon jumped over to the bikes. casey worked his way up through the ranks and reached the expert division by the end of the 1990s. by the early 2000s he was at the top of his game and winning local championships and looking to make the next step into the Pro ranks. casey got a shot in the middle of the decade and chased the National Series with team Pay Day mX. He did well and earned National number 97 for the 2007 season, but then the team struggled financially and that was the end of that. casey continued to race locally but got hurt racing at Loretta’s in 2009. After that, he lost his motivation as he was struggling with some personal issues through the beginning of the year. At that point he knew he either needed to get his act together or hang up his gear. Like most lifelong racers, there was really only one option. Get serious, get the head on straight and chase after it. today casey is racing with team Headcase mX. He trained all winter and kicked off the 2011 race season with some great finishes in Florida and a couple of wins at motorama. He is focused and back on track, and i look for great things ahead for this local racing legend. matter of fact, i believe that there is still some history to be made. Keep an eye on the 210 of casey clark as the season moves on, and i bet we’ll all be watching him at the Nationals come the end of this year.

CWR Tech TipChains and Sprockets

Simply put, the horsepower in a motor translates to work being done. The crank turns the clutch basket, which then turns the transmission, which then sends the work out of the motor and onto the front sprocket. Then the chain takes the power to the rear sprocket, which puts the power to the wheel. Then finally the tire ends up doing the work by moving the machine forward.

For play riders, the chain and sprockets are far too often overlooked. For racers, it could mean having a few more ponies or the loss of some. Most, if not all quad and bike racers know that a good, healthy chain and sprockets will get you through the motos and will give you one less thing to worry about. Some machines come in my shop having the teeth completely worn off or some actually missing. Likewise, a worn-out chain can be hard to keep tensioned and can eat the teeth right off a good sprocket, plus a chain with kinked links is a sign it’s ready to break.

A worn set of chain and sprockets will make you lose horsepower as the chain slips over the teeth on the sprocket and not turn the rear wheel very well. The worse case would be that the chain pops off the sprocket and breaks or cracks the engine case, ending your day.

When it’s time to replace the chain and sprockets, do it as a set. Why, you ask? My chain is good, and I just took a link out so I’m ok to go. Taking a link out of a worn chain doesn’t make it tight again. Chains don’t stretch as they call it. The metal plates don’t stretch, but the bushings in the rollers wear out, and with each link having a little play over the length of the whole chain it makes the chain grow longer, thus causing the need to adjust your chain slack from time to time.

So, taking a link out to shorten it again still leaves you with a worn-out chain ready to break. The sprockets need to be replaced as soon as you see the hooking or shark fin starting in the teeth. There are good chain and sprocket companies out there, and many of them sell combo packs. Just from my experience, stay away from the no-name combo packs that are really cheap. They don’t last; they don’t match very well, and yes, the chains break. Stick with a well-known brand, and you will have less down time. Think of it this way, you have a $6,000 mx bike or a $10,000 race quad and you want to put on a $45 set of chains and sprockets? I wouldn’t.

Here are some tips on installing new sprockets. If the front sprocket nut won’t come loose from factory it is because it has loctite on it. Take a torch and heat it up. On some quad models I had to heat the nut red hot. It won’t hurt the oil seal as long as you keep the flame small and tight around the nut. Then use an air gun to zap it off. The rear sprockets have a hex bolt and nut. Do not try to turn the hex bolt to loosen it; it will only strip it out. Use your 14mm wrench and break the nut loose first on all mx bikes. On quads the size will vary from 12mm to 17mm. And remember to install the bolt first, and then tighten up the nut last.

When the bolts are stretched or worn there are some aftermarket sprocket bolt and nut kits that work very well and sell for around $9. For the racers you should always have an extra set around. There’s always someone needing them.

To properly adjust the new chain or even when you need to adjust the old one, it really is a two-person job. Have the rider sit on the bike with both feet off the ground and do the same for a quad. The swing arm will be close to being level with the ground.

That’s the time when the swing arm is farthest away from the front sprocket. At the top part of the swing arm, just behind the upper chain guide there should be generally ½ inch of play. Tighten up the adjuster bolts and have the rider step off. The chain will now have more slack but is properly adjusted for riding purposes. Chain adjustment procedure will vary from bike to quad, so, yes, always read your owner’s manual to help you in this area.

Don’t use a high pressure washer on the chain areas, as it could blow out the grease in the rollers or damage the orings on the chain. Just take a light brush and rub over it to clean it. Use a good chain lube to keep the contact area of the sprocket and chain lubed so it will last longer. Avoid sticky chain lube as that allows sand and dirt to stick as well and causes premature wear. Another note is quads need to use an o ring chain because the tensile strength is greater than a standard chain and quads have a greater contact patch then bikes do, meaning that a bike’s tire is only grabbing in an area about 7 to 9 square inches and the quad is about 20 or so and they have two rear tires grabbing. That’s a lot of friction for the chain to turn.

So you say I run a standard chain on my quad and have no issue? Yes, some people run them on quads as they think there is more power going to the rear wheel. This is true to a point, being that a standard chain will allow more power to the rear and rev quicker but at the expense of reliability. Many times by the final moto the chain is worn and the power gains are lost anyhow. Remember, a loose chain has lost many a race for even the best riders.

A safety note here: while your bike or quad is on the stand, do not ever lube your chain with the motor running and in gear so the rear tire turns as you lube it. People have lost fingers that way. Just turn it by hand so you can enjoy more riding time. And as always, if you are not experienced in the maintenance of your bike or quad, please hire a trained mechanic or take it to your dealer for service.

We caught up with local racer Savion terry during this year’s motorama where he told us about an event he competed at last fall. Greg Pamart got the terry Family hooked up with the promoter of the mX Day outdoor Series on the island of St. martin located in the French caribbean islands. Greg grew up racing there, and his father owned a motorcycle dealership on the island back in the day. So, the terry Family packed up and headed south last year about the same time the mini o’s were going on. there Savion competed against 15 other racers in the 85 open division. He had a great showing, winning his first moto, but as luck would have it a flat front tire along with some brake issues would cost him the overall. He pushed through his second moto grabbing a second for second overall behind the guy he beat in the first moto. the track was a combination of mX and harescramble terrain and a lot of sand. the terrys said that dirt is a premium on a caribbean island, which made complete sense to me. they plan to attend the 2011 event, and anyone that is interested can catch up with them at the track or find them on Facebook. check out mx Day Sxm motocross for details.

early march took us to Fredericksburg, PA, and the opening round of the new for 2011 mDrA 6 race Series. Sleepy always opens this time of year, and you can pretty much count on winter-like weather conditions. this year would be no exception, and hats off to the crew at Sleepy, as they were well prepared for the conditions they were dealt for their 2011 opener.

midweek before the event, the weather man was calling for up to 5 inches of rain in the area, so the Swarr family got to the track prep and went out and rented an earth compactor

in an attempt to keep as much wet stuff off the track surface as possible. they caught a break (if you could say that), and a little less than two inches of the wet stuff hit the ground. As their Saturday practice dawned, you could still see some puddles around the area, and after a few classes hit the track it started to shape up reasonably well. the sun came out and the wind picked up to help the situation even more.

by race day the track surface was in great shape, but the skies once again clouded over and the temperatures dropped. i’ve attended much colder openers at Sleepy, but the day

still left a lot to be desired. With raceway Park hosting their opener and a Northeast Area qualifier at tomahawk and sketchy weather reports, Sleepy still managed just under 300 entries for the day.

the 25-plus groups would be the first off the gate to get the season started. Local Headcase mX and team Green rider casey clark would go 1-1 in the expert class, with maryland racer David rosedale getting the job done in the b/c division. As usual, the age classes had great turnouts on the day, and it just goes to show that motocross is a sport that can last a

round # 1 of season four was a record breaker; 882 riders came to the season opener at the cumberland county Fairgrounds ready to race. the weather was perfect considering the rain that had just swept to the west and north of us down here. We did have some mud, but we most definitely dodged a bullet on what could have been if the storm had come a little more east.

the whole weekend was a blast. there was great competition in all 43 classes. if this is a prelude to the year, then hold onto your helmets because it’s going to be

one heck of season for the Neoc. After the long winter break we were all ready to get back to the business of racing. With the flood of people coming through the gate it didn’t take long to get back into the groove of things. i was thinking about all of the things that you miss about racing during the winter months like the smells and the sounds, the bench racing and hanging with your favorite race faces. then you realize there are a few things that you didn’t miss. things like: 1. using the port-a-pot after hundreds of racers fill it with their “hibernation plug” from

the pre-race jitters! 2. Having to wait in the port-a-pot line knowing exactly what is happening inside of the plastic box you are about to enter.

Saturday started out at noon with 48 “tikes on bikes” setting the bar high for the rest of the weekend’s events. At 1 p.m. the oil injected lines were dominated by #89 Wayne cox; 3 p.m. was the key time for the Peewee division. top dog was 7-9 65 #185 Johnny manera with 434 tJ buckley hot on his heels for second overall and 4-8 50 #28 michael beeler in third overall. 5 p.m. comes quick for the herd of Pit bikers that fill the lines for the last event of the day. mega buck masters #96 Sean Gaughan and #85 ryan Klair came to the flag with their horns locked and nostrils flared. it was a “by a knobby” win for Gaughan. As always, great action in the pit bike division.

Sunday morning our first event is the Youth at 8:30 a.m. sharp. the 10-second count is bellowed out by brian, every racer leans forward, elbows out, and then the hammer drops. Within seconds the AA Youth line is around the flat track turn and on the holeshot mark. overalls came in this order: #2 Jeffrey Hall, #7 ryder Lafferty and #906 Jeremy Williams. there was a fight for the top spots the entire race. Great action, great fun. our main event was packed with some of the fastest riders on the eastern seaboard. if you don’t believe me, well, come out for a challenge then. racers edge and Legacy Lanes shelled out a $500 honey pot for the overall winner

so you know they were all gunning for the prize. #356 ryan rodgers took home that pot of gold for round 1 of Season 4 but not without some rubber gnawed off his back tire by #3 Jesse Groemm and #306 Kyle mcDonal.

every year, Happy ramblers has been gracious enough to lend their track to the Girls Just Wanna ride event. this event was created in hopes of broadening the spectrum of women who are interested in riding dirt bikes. Whether the girls are interested in learning to ride or already have skills, they are welcome to attend this chick friendly event. it is an amazing thing to see a track that is full of girl riders! this sport has come a long way in the few short years for the women. Previously, the women’s class was as small as 3-4 racers, but today you can find between 10-20 girls on the line and ready to race on any given Sunday!

the expansion of the women’s class is not only locally, but nationally as well. At the professional level women are gaining exposure more and more all the time! it is a fabulous thing that today no matter where you are women are becoming more involved in the sport of motocross!

in previous years one could expect to show up at a Girls Just Wanna

ride event and do a warm-up practice. After a short lesson on general body positioning techniques, the day of activities begins! Girls did not need to feel intimidated because they were broken up into small groups to do activities on their bikes. every year girls leave the school with a smile on their face and hopefully some new skills and activities that they have learned. A lunch break is always provided for the girls and their families. At the end of the day’s instruction the track is open for the girls to ride. For 2011, Girls Just Wanna ride will have some new changes to its program and sponsors.

As a thank-you to Happy ramblers, Girls Just Wanna ride extends their gratitude for having the event by sponsoring one of

their races. At the sponsored race there are various Girls Just Wanna ride items that are on sale. Also, there are posters and banners that display what has occurred during the event and information about the event.

this year will mark the fifth year that Girls Just Wanna ride has been running for the women. this year, the event will be held on may 21st. if you plan on attending Girls Just Wanna ride you will need to preregister, preferably as soon as possible. the class is unlimited in regards to space available, but the sooner you are registered, the better. information on the school can be obtained by contacting Kelsey Green at (717) 683–2240 and will be available at motorcycle shops and local tracks.

Whether you’re reading this as a mother, sister, or a new rider in the sport, if you’re a girl who’s interested in the sport, Girls Just Wanna ride is extending an invitation to you! Tyler Condon Update – 916For those of you who don’t know, local amateur class racer Tyler Condon experienced a life-

threatening head injury while practicing for the upcoming season in late February of this year. At the time, doctors were afraid that Tyler may not be able to recover from his accident.

However, by the grace of God and through the availability of modern technology and some of the best doctors in the country, Tyler has made remarkable strides in his recovery. Let’s not forget to give credit to Tyler and his family either; they have been fighting this tooth and nail since the day of the accident.

At last report, Tyler is doing well and has just entered one of the best rehab facilities the East Coast has to offer. He is now breathing and eating on his own and is well on his road to recovery. With still much-needed prayer and support everyone feels confident that Tyler can make a full recovery in time.

You can stay in touch almost daily on his progress on Facebook. The page is Praying For Tyler Condon 916. There you can see updates and make donations and send prayers and support. The entire Condon family would like to send their thanks for all of the support from the motocross community, and they know through God’s Grace Tyler has come as far as he has.

Girls Just Wanna Ride

RIDING PROTECTION YOU CAN’T SEESee psalms 91:7

- amp Bible Keep this in mind as you read: motocross is

very dangerous, and we elect to race mainly just because we want to have fun or reach some personal goal or dream.

When I was about 20 yrs old in 125A, I was preparing for my moto and cleaning my goggles or something when I heard in my Spirit man (from the Holy Spirit) “read Psalms 91.”

This was not the first time I had read this verse before a moto. I had made it a regular practice to read protection scriptures before motos for about one and a half years at that point. So, I read Psalms 91, and the above verse really stuck out to me as if it was going to happen to me. I received it in faith and went to the starting gate at Doublin Gap. In those days it was an uphill start. We revved up our bikes, the card turned sideways and we charged over the dropping gate, up the hill and through the Loamie dirt only to come to a hard, fast stop.

Someone had hit someone, who then fell, and they all began to drop. Now mind you this was A class, so there were only about 20 or so racers. It seemed like the only ones not on the ground were the leader, who was brrrrapp gone (lol), and me sitting on my bike with the clutch pulled in and not moving.

While waiting on everyone lying on the ground to pick up their bikes that surrounded me I was reminded in that moment of the verse I had just read prior to the race. I got a smile on my face because of the Lord’s faithfulness. My thought was, “I am the only one left standing just like the verse said!”

I believe that The Lord’s protection is available to those of us who believe in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, having surrendered our future to Him. Protection is available to the one who has invited the Holy Spirit into their spirit man. I have experienced His protection and guidance both on and off the track.

It is our responsibility to: read the Bible verses on God’s faithful protection, put faith in it, continue to meditate on it regularly, and speak the word over our lives. It is not magic, it’s spiritual law.

If we have done all of that and still get hurt, I believe the reasons why are threefold. 1. It’s a dangerous sport, may I highlight SPORT!2. We live in a fallen world where accidents happen, nothing more and nothing less. 3. Satan wanted to hurt you and did.

Sometimes we have more to learn about spiritual laws and find out we really were not operating under His protection. Beware, doubt can creep in, which by the way is different than not enough faith. I can’t give you all the scriptural arguments for those beliefs in this brief article; however, I can say I have been studying healing and protection for 13 years, through many injuries and many tears of confusion and cries out to the Lord for answers.

In closing, I will say from the day I made a pact to meditate on protection scriptures, pray in Faith, and speak in faith, I went two years before getting injured and ended the streak with an A.C.L. injury/broken tibia. Even with that I was able through faith, scripture meditation, wise decision making, and prayer to defy my first doctor’s prediction that without surgery I would never be able to walk right again.

My advice to you is that if things don’t go as planned, don’t blame God; use it as a forced opportunity to learn more. You know every injury on the track I had can be contributed to a mistake made by me and sometimes another rider. Spiritual protection is kinda like the Leatt Brace. When it came out I bought one because I do all I can knowing that nothing is a guarantee. I would no sooner race without a helmet than I would race without Spiritual protection. Never stop seeking the Lord and His blessing because He’s not the source of evil; Satan is. Rejoice in the Lord for He is good all the time. The next time you race, put on the protective gear you can’t see, and, oh yeah, your regular gear too. I don’t even ride a bicycle without a helmet and pads, and I am the one who wrote this article on God’s protection.

torrential rains could not deter a great field of riders from assembling at tomahawk, and as a Phoenix rising from the ashes the gate dropped on the Loretta Lynn Qualifier in early march. chad Gochenour and his track personnel had the racing surface in tremendous shape as riders from 10 states took to the course.

Area riders brandon Garlock, Lauren Plate, thomas coluzzi, Seth Galloway and Steven Good, among others, had a respectable weekend, turning in some great finishes. A special shout-out goes to thomas coluzzi for being quick out of the gate all weekend. “c” champ Sean baxley rode well entering the competitive “b” class looking to secure a return trip to Loretta’s.

Wow, what an opener. i could probably go back to the beginning of time and have a hard time finding an opener at Pagoda that wasn’t either knee deep in mud or weather so cold you didn’t want to even leave your house. this year mother Nature tried again but to no avail. With a long, wet winter and the rain falling in the weeks prior to this event, it’s almost hard to believe the racing we were provided. the sun was shining bright for both the practice and race day, and track conditions were almost primo. Some said they thought the track crew may have overwatered too much, but i thought conditions were near perfect.

this race was round # 1 of the mainline Series, now in its second season. this series consists of 8 rounds combined between Pagoda and Sleepy Hollow and will run through the end of July. in August, series champions will be crowned and awarded some great prizes from series sponsors Sullivan bros,

tLD, HJc Helmets, Jr’s cycle Shop, brD and ecS Honda. today’s event rounded out with over 400 riders attending

with great racing in all classes. Holeshot awards were given in some classes, and Honda contingency was available as at all mainline Series races. the 250 A group would kick off the day with expert riders going eight laps on the fresh Pagoda course. Local fast guy casey clark would lead the moto from start to finish, being challenged only at the end by young gun cody Lunceford. it would be clark’s day, as he would go on to sweep three expert divisions.

up next was a loaded 250 b gate with amateurs and youth going four laps in each moto. the racing would be tight up front in both amateur divisions, but in the end it would be Jason Astudillon from Quakertown, PA, grabbing the wins in both 250 and open b.

on the main track and at their mini course located down over the hill. the racing was intense in several of these classes, as well as the young racers of our sport honing their skills to advance on to the larger divisions. You can check their results here.

the mainline Series’ next event will land at Sleepy Hollow the first week of April, and Pagoda will again open their gates for round # 2 of the mDrA 6 Series the following weekend.
