Dear Friends: All I can say is….WOW! We’re not even one month into the summer, and already it’s been an exciting season. Here are just a few of the highlights from the month of June:

June 4-8: 75 children and 35 volunteers experienced an amazing week of Vacation Bible School. Our own Sophe Pope wrote the curriculum and song lyrics for our theme “God’s Great Galaxy.” Through story time, music, crafts, recreation, and, most especially, through the creativity, enthusiasm, and love of our incredible volunteers, children learned how Jesus cares for, knows, enables, loves, and forgives us. Check out the Stewardship Committee corner on page 3 to read some of the comments from our volunteers!

June 9-16: Our McYouth headed to the mountains of North Carolina for the annual Montreat Youth Conference. With 23 youth and 4 adults, it was our largest group to date! Don’t forget to “pester them enthusiastically” to hear about their experience.

In celebration of Father’s Day, three of our men – Dusty Pope, Tim Engelbracht, and Wayne Lowrey – gave the message in worship that morning. The Holy Spirit spoke powerfully through each of them! If you weren’t able to join us that Sunday, be sure to check out our website and YouTube channel to listen to their stories. I guarantee you’ll be glad you did!

God is indeed at work at MPC. What might God do in and through us in July? Come and see! In Christ, Nicole Lock Interim Pastor

Congregation Report June 2018 Your Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) was formed in April and began work

immediately – 8 meetings so far. Like all of you, the members of the PNC are excited about the prospect of calling a new pastor, anxious to get it done quickly, but more concerned about doing the very best job possible. To keep you posted, the PNC will report progress in that search either by verbal or written updates. This is the first report.

We, the PNC, have defined a three stage process for completing the pastoral search. The three stages can be summarized as: 1. Identify the needs of McDonough Presbyterian Church as they relate to the call of

a new Senior Minister (head of staff) 2. Conduct a broad and thorough search, screening the responses to a final set of

candidates 3. Evaluate the candidates and make a selection At this point the PNC is deep into stage 1, defining our requirements. The product of

this stage will be a completed Ministry Information Form (MIF) – the standard (and required) form used by the PCUSA for describing a church, documenting the leadership qualifications of the pastor we are seeking, and outlining the job description and terms of the call. The MIF must be approved by the session and the committee on ministry of the Greater Atlanta Presbytery before it can be sent to candidates. The PNC hopes to complete the MIF by late summer. We thank you for your input collected in our “listening sessions”, as these insights have been valuable in this process.

We continue to ask for your prayers. Thank You 2018 PNC

Dear Chancel Choir

& Church Members,

Sincere gratitude to your contribution to the Rollstone Foundation in the memory of Lovie Montague. Your donation will help us to help more modern day saints like the Montague’s bring special needs orphans home to their “forever Families”

Stewardship Committee Serving

Mark 10:45 “ the son of man did not come to be served, but to serve.” Our church recently completed VBS. It was a fun filled learning experience not only for the children, but also for the many volunteers. Why did these volunteers decide to serve? Here are some of their responses:

“ I enjoyed VBS as a child and thought I would relive that experience as an adult.”

“As a member of the church, I made a commitment to help raise the children in the Christian faith. It was a great way to

get to know the young children and their parents.” “I felt guilty when I heard the call for the need for volunteers

and I didn’t have a good enough excuse to say no” “It was an opportunity to gain leadership experience and be

with my friends.” “It was a way to serve God and my church.”

“It was an excellent way to help local missions and Christian education of MPC spread the word and spirit of Jesus Christ to

our community.”

How about you? Do you hear or feel the calling to serve? MPC has many wonderful opportunities available. To find out more, please call the church office. Your reward is waiting.

McYouth Montreat MYC 18’ Thank you to everyone from our chaperones (Angie Ross, Alan Ross and Kelli Elliott) to Congregation members (who support us and pray for us) who makes our McYouth Summer Trips happen. The High Schoolers had a great week at Montreat. We enjoyed being in worship and play in the Mountains of North Carolina. We are continuing to flesh out our theme of what it means to “Lift Every Voice,” through our Sunday school hour on Sunday. I encourage you to ask one or all of our youth about their week

Have you wondered what’s happening with MPC’s Stephen Ministry? It’s alive and well, busy providing Christian care to our church members and working on new referrals.

Stephen Ministry is a confidential, listening ministry offering support to those experiencing life’s challenges and providing a Christian friend to walk along with you during these difficult times. Do you need a Stephen Minister in your life right now?

It’s easy to get started by calling 770-820-8710 or email [email protected] for a confidential consult.

Supper Club 2018-19 We will be gathering names throughout the spring and

summer for the grand reveal in August. Be looking for the sign-ups or send an email to Jill Shedd,

[email protected], to express your interest. Remember, this is a great way of learning the names and

faces of your church family!

MPC CAMPERS

Happy McCampers:

Next great camping location will be Fort Yargo State Park in Winder, GA on October 11 - 14

No camper/tent required for these twice yearly (spring and fall) trips. Most places we stay (usually state parks) have cottages or a lodge. There is hiking, fishing, kids playing in the dirt, and sometimes we play golf together if there is a course in the park.

We have group meals on Friday and Saturday nights, and enjoy games and a corn hole tournament on Saturday.

Past event locations are: Hard Labor Creek, Don Carter, Victoria Bryant, Elijah Clark, High Falls, and Crooked Riv-er. Our last event was held at Georgia Veterans Park. Some of us are planning to go to Disney for Henry Coun-ty Fall Break.

If you enjoy the outdoors and time together with friends, this is for you! We have 22 fami-lies in the group. If you would like to join us, contact Chuck Standard at [email protected]

When supervising the rebuilding of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London ( which took about 50 years to complete) architect Christopher Wren asked three different laborers what they were doing. One said he was cutting stone. The sec-ond said he was earning six shillings. The third said, “I’m helping Sir Christopher Wren build a great cathedral!” How are you helping to build something great for the future?

Sew Comfy SEW COMFY will begin on TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4 at 6:30 in the Men’s Classroom. Join us in making pillows for mastectomy patients - no sewing skills required. Contact Debra Brown (770-820-8710) or Lynn Lowrey (770-468-1478) for more details
