Appalachian Plateau

•This mountain region is found in extreme northwestern Georgia. •It is the mountainous region with many rivers and streams flowing through them.•It marks the beginning of the Appalachian Trail. •Most prominent features are Lookout and Sand mountains, Cloudland Canyon.• Appalachian Oak Forests cover the most of the region-maple, birch, beech, hemlock trees•Wild life include Deer, Toad, Frogs, Eagles, Turtles, Foxes, and Herons.•People like to visit Rock City, Rev. Finster’s Paradise Garden, Appalachian trail,

Fall Line

•It is about 20 mile wide geological boundary between Columbus to Augusta.• It separates Piedmont from Coastal region. •Its name arises from the occurrence of waterfalls and rapids as the elevation drops and water moves faster when you come inland. •The differences in the geology of north and south of fall line give rise to differences in soil type, variety of plant life and wild life. •This has been great for the transportation and hydroelectric power and trade.

Blue Ridge

• This occupies the Northeastern part of Georgia.

• It consists of irregular sequence of mountains, ridges, and basins.

• Blue Ridge Mountains and Cohutta mountains make the most of the province.

• One of the Georgia’s natural wonders–Tallulah Gorge and Falls named “Niagra of the South.”

• Due to distinct differential elevation a variety of vegetation is found like Hickory, Oak, Golden

Rod, Witch Hazel, Iris etc.• Wild life includes- Black bear, Raccoon, White

tail deer, Grouse and salamanders etc.• People come to visit-Brasstown Bald Peak

highest point in GA, Birthplace of Cabbage Patch Doll in Cleveland, Cornelia for World’s Largest

Coastal Plains

•The Coastal Plains are located in the Southern part of Georgia.•It is a low, flat region of well-drained, gently rolling hills and poorly drained flat woods.•Coastal Plains are sometimes divided into upper and lower sections, Upper being near the Fall Line is the agricultural part and lower is the coastal part with the Atlantic Ocean and the swamps.•One of the best known wetlands in U.S- the Okefenokee Swamp is in this region.•Wild Life-Wild turkey, Raccoon, Deer, Bobcats, Songbirds, Turtles, Alligators, Hummingbird, Angel fish, Woodpecker etc.•Plants- Oak, Wax Myrtle, Wire grass, Pine etc.•Famous places to visit-Squares and World Globe Storage Tank, Fort Pulaski in Savannah, Cursed Pillar in Augusta, Little Grand Canyon in Columbus, Jimmy Carter Peanut Statue in Plains, and Radium Springs.

Piedmont•This region consist of series of rolling hills and occasional isolated mountains is in the north-central part of GA.•Piedmont means “foot of the mountains”.•Rivers and ravines are found throughout this area. •We live in Piedmont area, capital of GA , Atlanta is also in Piedmont.•It stretches from Alabama to S. Carolina and ends at Fall Line. •Famous landmarks- Stone Mountain and Warm Springs.•The wild life includes Bat, Red fox, Mole, and Wild Turkey. •The wetlands of Piedmont hold water from many rivers and include River birch, Cattails, Hickory, Sweet gum, Pine and Black Walnut.•Famous tourist places-Cyclorama, World of Coca Cola, Georgia Aquarium,Gravity Hills, Lake Lanier Islands, Uncle Remus Museum

Valley and Ridge

•This region occupies most of the northwestern Georgia. •It includes the Chickamauga Valley, Armuchee Ridges, and the Great Valley. •Low open valleys and narrow ridges run parallel. •Most of the land is covered with forests. Great place for bird watchers. •Wild life includes deer, opossum, striped bobcats and many more.•Plants varied based on the area moisture•Famous landmark people come to visit- Amicalola Falls, means “tumbling waters.” It is state’s highest fall with a total drop of 729 feet.•Amicalola Falls is located in Amicalola Falls State Park.
