Rationale
After further observation of clinical visits with theveterans, the promotion of the MOVE! Program wasvery minimum and brief without further informationprovided.
With majority of the veterans having a diagnosis of diabetes, hypertension, and/or heart disease,
increasing promotion of MOVE! would be essentialespecially with physical activity decreasing the risks for these negative health factors along with improvinghealth for individuals of all ages.

Describe the goal
Improve promotion of MOVE! to veterans
Increase veteran‟s awareness of link between health and physical activity
Stimulate recall of prior knowledge
Discuss with health care providers how increased physical activity reduces numerous health risk factors.
Ask veteran about current knowledge about benefits of increasing exercise.
Present the material to be learned
Present the informative video to the health care providers to increase knowledge about the MOVE!program.
Evaluation of Effectiveness

What can be done in the
future to achieve the goal?
Provide more handouts for future references about theprogram for both health care providers and veterans.
Potentially having the veterans also watch theinformational video for a better visual of what theMOVE! Program has to offer.
Testimonial stories can also be added into the
informational video to increase motivation to join theprogram.

Impact of Health Policy
As Hunt (2013) states, “policy development placeshealth issues on decision-makers‟ agendas, acquiresa plan of resolution, and determines neededresources.” Furthermore, policy enforcementobligates members of the community to follow thehealth policy due to the formations of mandatory rulesand regulations (Hunt, 2013). With laws to befollowed, the population would be more likely to
comply with the interventions with ideal results.

Evidence Based Article To
Support Project Title: Comparative Effectiveness of Weight-Loss Interventions in Clinical
Practice
Excerpt: “In this comparative effectiveness trial, in which obese medicalpatients with at least one cardiovascular risk factor were enrolled, two
behavioral interventions — one involving no in-person contact withweight-loss coaches associated with the study or with other participants— achieved clinically relevant weight loss. The extent of weight loss wassimilar to that achieved in many efficacy studies.12-14 In contrast with thefindings in most weight-loss trials,19,20 however, participants sustainedweight loss to the end of the trial. A large percentage of participants lost 5% or more of their initial body weight, an amount of weight loss that has beenassociated with numerous health benefits, including improved control of
diabetes and hypertension, a reduced risk of incident diabetes andhypertension, and lower levels of risk factors for cardiovascular disease.”

CDC Evidence Based Article
Title: Participant Retention in the Veterans Health Administration’sMOVE! Weight Management Program, 2010
Excerpt: Although referral method appeared unrelated to retention rate, provider support for and knowledge about the program differed betweenhigh- and low-retention programs. Coordinators at 4 low-retention programssaid patients attended orientation without knowing why they were there or were often referred by providers who offered little discussion of MOVE!:“[The patients] don‟t know they‟ve been referred . . . they don‟t know anythingabout it . . . I . . . think maybe the doctors just say, „Do you want to loseweight?‟ and the patient says yes. . . . Maybe the doctors just don‟t know whatMOVE! is” (low-retention program). Only 1 coordinator of a high-retentionprogram noted any such problems: “I would like to see a more consistent
understanding among providers of what [MOVE!] is.”
