Mount Maunganui Language Centre
was established in 1990 by Anne Butler
and was the first language centre in
the local area. Anne began with a very
small number of students and the
school has steadily grown over the
years. Mount Maunganui Language
Centre is still proud to be a small school
with a capacity of up to 70 students.
Anne’s son, Geoff Butler, is now
manager of the school. Students tell
us that what they like best about the
centre is the small friendly, family
atmosphere – We are the small school
with the big heart.intr

All our teachers are highly qualified. Teachers attend training courses
at least twice a year to ensure their teaching skills are of the highest
standard. They teach in a lively and practical manner with an emphasis
on communication. Speaking, reading, listening, grammar and
pronunciation are taught in an integrated way. These skills are practiced
in situations designed to reflect real life. Most students take our General
English course, but you can choose from any of the study options listed

Families are interviewed twice, checked by New
Zealand Police and their homes are inspected
before becoming a host family. Staying with a
New Zealand family is the perfect way to practice
your English and to make New Zealand friends.
homestay accommodation
We take care to match students with Homestays depending on their interests.
If students want to experience rural life in New Zealand we can arrange a farmstay experience.
Students can stay on a farm for a weekend and have hands on experience of farming life.
Most farms have sheep, cattle and horses.
Many Homestays provide bicycles for students
to bike to school (Mount Maunganui is
very flat so cycling is easy), or students
can use the local bus service. We can
also arrange fully-furnished apartment
accommodation.
Airport Transfer Service - We provide a
shuttle bus transfer service from Auckland International
Airport direct to the Homestay which takes approximately
21/2 hours. If you have arranged a domestic flight to
Tauranga from Auckland our staff can meet you on arrival and assist you to the domestic
terminal. Flights arriving or departing at very late or very early times, or on National Holidays
may require an overnight stay in Auckland, which we can book for you.
