    Senior A Girls

On Wednesday 29th of June our Senior A Girls Basketball team had a fast and furious game Aquinas Senior Girls team who had a dominant shooter slotting in many three pointers to keep the scores neck and neck and at the end of the first quarter Aquinas was up by one point. Once the Mount girls worked out how to shut her down, the game started to favour Mount College. However, there was a lot of physical play and Aquinas had the upper hand on rebounding and using the ball from the ground. The Mount team continued to block shots, intercept passes and by the start of the forth quarter the Mount girls had a buffer of at least 10 points. It was definitely a good game to watch with great defence by both teams and some pleasing middle court action by the Mount. By the final whistle Mount College extended their margin and won the match 62-45.

Mount Maunganui College’s annual sports exchange with Lynfield College started in 1957 when both schools opened and has been running ever since. This year the exchange will be hosted by Lynfield College on Wednesday August 10th, 2016. Eleven of our senior sports teams will travel to Auckland to play against Lynfield in Basketball, Football, Hockey, Golf, Netball, Rugby and Water Polo. Our senior Debating team also takes part and competes against Lynfield's top Debating team. Last year Mount College won the sports exchange and currently hold the trophy. We will be doing our very best to retain the trophy for 2016.

    Saturday July 2nd Results

Under 15 The Mount Maunganui College under 15 team continued their recent strong form, with a commanding 76-0 win over Tarawera High School. Lead by their skipper Jaydon Gage, who overcame sickness to take the field, Mount College was too strong for their opponents. Melino Fotu and Caleb Vanner were danger men in the forwards, which allowed for the Ihe twins, Jayden and Jamaiah and strong second five eighth, George Mano to cause havoc in the backs. 1st XV The first fifteen match between Mount College and Te Puke was an exciting display of running Rugby, which resulted in six tries in the match. Mount College lead 14-12 with 15 minutes to go after a strong defensive performance. Joseph Wallace and Raphael Romeu were busy all game making tackles and winning ball. Seren Marsh led the troops well, while second five eighth Cashmere Tawa, was strong in the midfield, scoring a well deserved try. Te Puke ran away with the game, after dominating possession for the last 15 minutes of the game. Final score was 26-14 to Te Puke.

A few of our second and third Xl Hockey players took the opportunity to attend a Hockey skills session run by the Mount Premier Ladies Hockey team. Contract Medical Services sponsor the ladies team and as part of this sponsorship deal the ladies are encouraged to support school Hockey in the Mount. The session was full of fun activities and lots of skills that the players can use throughout the season. A huge thank you to both the Mount Ladies Hockey team and Contract Mechanical Services.

    Netball Representatives 2016

Four Mount Maunganui College students made the Harbourside Netball Centre Under 15’s representative netball team. Ella Pollock, Bella Ackroyd, Armanii Martelli and Nikki Wright all played key roles in the team and successfully competed at the annual Hamilton City Netball tournament over the weekend. The team came away with three wins and one loss showing they are an agile and competitive team against teams from Auckland, Hamilton, Rotorua and Taupo.

Julia Kayes was selected in the Harbourside Under 17 team. This team competed in four tournaments over the past four weekends. Two Auckland tournaments were a great opportunity for the under 17 girls to play against some great opposition including Otago, Waitakere, Auckland and North Harbour. The other tournaments were played in the Waikato and Rotorua against other Bay of Plenty centres where the Harbourside under 17 team’s performance was strong winning six out of eight games.

    Premier One

Mount Maunganui College Premier one netball team won their first game in round two against Aquinas College 54-28. The game was open on attack and allowed the Mount team to release the ball quickly. The whole team was required to step up in mixed positions to cover injuries. Sadly the team’s key mid court link Eva Gibson left the court in agony with an Achilles injury and we wish her well and hope for a quick recovery!
