Injury Treatment provides customised expertise assisting Motor Accident Insurers to achieve rehabilitation and case outcomes through provision of professional assessment, opinion and intervention. Our goal is to assist in containing cost inflation on difficult claims and maximising claimant independence and capacity.We provide innovative assessment and intervention solutions, beyond simple assessment and recommendation, adding value to the claims management process. Our MAA Accredited Motor Accident Consultants boast extensive clinical and rehabilitation experience. Our professionals are trained in the delivery of efficient interventions aimed at minimising the impact of a Compulsory Third Party (CTP) claim to both the claimant and insurer.

Rehabilitation Assessment and Intervention Activities of Daily Living AssessmentHome based assessment of the environment and key areas of functional difficulty / dependence considering the compensable injury. Recommendations are provided for improved techniques, equipment or modifications to enable safe and independent performance of daily living activities. Determination of appropriate service provision based on compensable prognostics and functional capacity.Where required, ADL retraining, home modification or equipment prescription is recommended in order to encourage independence. Recommendations are discussed with the case manager /IMA prior to reporting. ADL Upgrading ProgramInjury Treatment provides structured OT intervention to assist clients return to their pre-injury functioning, even if in a modified manner. When appropriate, during the initial ADL assessment SMART goals are set in agreement with the client to address use of prescribed equipment, task simplification techniques, ergonomics of tasks include use of furniture etc as support, pacing /timetabling of tasks, energy conservation, upgrading of activities, setting up a simple exercise program such as a home walking program. This program is usually provided over 4 one hour sessions delivered weekly or fortnightly as appropriate and as agreed with the agent. A final report is provided following the completion of the program detailing the gains made, the injured person’s return to pre-injury activities such as family interactions, social and recreational activities, usual responsibilities (such as taking the children to school), and the OT’s observation of their ability to follow instructions and concentrate on the task at hand.

Motor Accident Services Medical / Allied Health Case ConferencingAssisting with the liaison between the claimant and either the treating GP, specialist or allied health professional to provide clarity regarding diagnosis, prognosis and treatment recommendations. In cases where treatment is not considered “reasonable and necessary” the consultant will discuss the treating doctors rationale and guide the referrer and injured claimant towards treatment options regarded as best practice, ensuring evidence based intervention and cost minimisation. Reporting of actions is provided to the insurer and, where necessary, summaries of rationale for treatment changes or recommendations is provided to third parties such as solicitors.

Initial Needs AssessmentA comprehensive bio-psychosocial (workplace)

assessment for physical or psychological claims which is conducted by a senior allied health professional. Allocation of the professional to the case is determined by the type of injury and/or stage of claim. The Initial Needs Assessment is applicable in both the home, workplace and vocational rehabilitation contexts to guide strategy and further rehabilitation intervention. Assessment includes:• Interview with the client and employer (if applicable),• Workplace assessment (where relevant),• Analysis of primary case barriers,• Communication with allied health professionals, • Completion of a case conference with the

GP,• Provision of INA report including detailed

recommendations and strategies for barrier resolution in the areas of medical, functional, psychosocial, vocational and workplace to ensure appropriate case progression.

Return to Employment Planning Assists with the liaison between the claimant, treating professionals and their pre accident employer, to devise a strategic and graded return to work plan. Our reporting clearly details the claimants previous loss of earning capacity and strategy minimising future loss. When required the consultant can perform an assessment of the claimant’s workplace and/or a functional capacity assessment to determine when a claimant may be able to return to work in any capacity. Potential suitable duties are identifed and the employer is educated regarding the benefits of supporting a progressive return to work. When requested, the consultant can organise a medical / allied health case conference with the claimant to relay the findings of the report and provide further rehabilitation assistance.

Functional Capacity Evaluation Through the utilisation of an objective and recognised functional assessment, our experienced Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists will assess the client’s key physical and functional tolerances with feedback provided in regard to their compensable injury and associated dysfunction both in and/or out of the workplace.

Workplace Assessment Most often designed to assess the pre-injury duties and/or identify appropriate alternate duties to ensure the employee is working within their identified medical & functional capacity, either immediately or within a prescribed timeframe. Including:

• Assessment of the pre-injury duties and alternate duties through a detailed task analysis

• Performance barrier assessment and mitigation strategy prescription, functional education

• Manager / Supervisor coaching • Allied health communication and, when

necessary, a teleconference with the GP• Reporting including recommendations for

required accommodations, adaptions, work area redesign, functional education and medical correspondence follow up.

OT Driving AssessmentsAssessment referencing professional standards provided by both Occupational Therapy Australia, and standards document, “Assessing Fitness to Drive”, published by the National Transport Council of Australia, completed by an appropriately accredited OT. This can include an assessment of the client’s ability to travel and provision of education and / or equipment to maximise the client’s independence regarding community access and travel to and from work. Ergonomic AssessmentsAn assessment is conducted and recommendations are made for required accommodations, adaptions, workstation redesign and / or the provision of ergonomic or alternative equipment as appropriate.

Rehabilitation Case Management Rehabilitation Case management can be provided ongoing in cases of significant injury or reduced function and involves a holistic approach to all aspects of the claimant’s rehabilitation, medical, functional, return to work and activities of daily living. Our services specifically identify potential areas presenting a high risk to claim progression and are able to, then develop and implement strategies to mitigate risk for both claimant and insurer.

Vocational Assessment A comprehensive vocational assessment and report is conducted by a senior rehabilitation counsellor or psychologist. The report is developed on a needs basis and details current medical status, education /employment history, objective capacity, transferrable skills and labour market research, identifying realistic vocational goals based on a thorough job match analysis that match or exceed the pre-injury comparable earnings. Reporting is accompanied by NTD endorsement of the vocational goals and, when necessary, a follow up medical case conference can be completed.

Job Seeking Education The provision of a combination of up to 10 competency based job seeking education modules tailored to the client to assist them to independently job seek. Each session is approximately 1 hour of training and can include such things as how to disclose a compulsory third party injury, how to seek non-advertised job vaccancies and developing a resume. The choice of education modules is based upon the experience and skills of the claimant.

Job Seeking AssistanceConducted by an experienced empoyment placement consultant. Post assessment & approval, the following key interventions are delivered:• Dynamic job search in a group or 1:1 basis• Reverse marketing/ cold canvassing

Clinical Assessment and Intervention Optimise Physiotherapy Assessment & TreatmentA functional Assessment and rehabilitation programme for work-related physical injuries. The claimant is assessed by an experienced Physiotherapist. A report is then provided to the Motor Accident Insurer with a detailed summary of the findings and treatment recommendations for consideration. Treatment is active, function based exercise as recommended by the MAA and evidence based research.

Optimise Psychological Assessment & TreatmentOptimise Psychology provides assessment and treatment services specifically designed to address an injured claimant’s function and ability to independently manage their condition. Clinical opinion and intervention is provided by senior accredited Psychologists with an average of 5 or more years experience in the delivery of rehabilitation and clinical services. Interventions are designed to be short term and usually completed within 6 or 12 sessions.
