FEED ASSISTANCE

HELPING ANIMALS IN NEED!

Morning Starr Animal Sanctuary has been helping pet

owners to feed their animals in these hard economic

times. Even out of state! We recently sent 30 pounds of

ferret food to a retired veteran on a fixed income in

Washington State. We gave 60 pounds of cat food to

another sanctuary. We are glad to help in a pinch! If

you know of someone who could use some pet feed to

get them through a hard month please have them call

Morning Starr or email. We want to

help keep pets out of shelters and in

their homes with their loving families.

Many people are struggling these days.

No animal should go hungry!

Let us help!

WHAT DO WE NEED?

We buy most of our feed for the farm animals from Olsen’s Grain in Clarkdale. Donations can be

made at the store and they will make sure they get to us. We are in there every week. What we buy on

a regular basis is:

- Alfalfa Hay - Equine Senior - horse wormer (feed through)

- Straw for bedding - Fly spray/masks - Rabbit pellets - Potbellied Pig food

WHAT WE USE, not from Olsen’s Grain

- Any cat or dog food which is donated to families and other shelters in need

- Blankets for special needs animals that arrive

- Toys for puppies, vaccines

- Corral panels, used rusty, dented, does not matter, can pick up

- Any farm equipment, water troughs, buckets, hoses, old tack

Three of the sweetest puppies in the world!

Morning Starr was more than happy to help

with the shots. They were healthy, happy,

and huge! If you are looking for a big dog

then these puppies are for you. One is all

black, that is the female. The other two are

brown and white both males. Call Golden

Bone at 928-567-5555 if you might be inter-

ested in these large pups! Call Golden Bone

and ask about Snookie, Jackson or Spencer

or any of the other fine dogs for adoption.

IT’S HOT!!

Heat stroke can occur when our pet's tem-

perature reaches above 105 degrees Fahr-

enheit. At this temperature the body's im-

mune system begins to go haywire and their

organs and blood begin to malfunction.

Death can quickly occur without lowering

their temperature and correcting any other

problems that can arise. Typically animals

with heat stroke stems from two common

scenarios. One, the animals were left in the

car, even with cracked windows. Secondly,

animals that are kept outside without

adequate shade or water.

Both of these situations are

very common and extremely

bad for your pet's health.

HELPFUL HINTS! Aggression in Cats!

Most common type of aggressive behavior is play aggression, which is normal for

t the young of all mammals. For cats, play includes stalking, pouncing, and

fighting. A young cat may hide in a corner and then stalk, chase and pounce on

an object or person! Kittens normally play with each other, with their mother and with a variety of mov-

ing objects. If none of these are available, they will treat humans arms and legs as playthings.

It is important to teach kittens an acceptable way to play right from the beginning. If possible, take home

two kittens so they can fulfill their need to play with each other. If this is not feasible, then direct the kit-

ten to “fun” toys such as long strings (don’t let your kitten swallow it!) or ping pong balls. This will help

minimize those secret ambushes, and prevent you from becoming, in effect, a big squeaky toy. Always

keep these toys, especially the ones with strings, away from your cat when you are not around to super-

vise.

Many people misinterpret play as a sign of serious aggression. Playful cats “attack” silently and do not

typically break the skin when they bite. Seriously aggressive and potentially dangerous cats often hiss or

growl and bite more severely. Using a water spray bottle to keep the cat away is sometimes helpful. Hit-

ting a cat is not recommended since it often causes a defensive reaction, may lead to aggression, and is

inhumane.

MORNING STARR JUST HAS

help with the cost of gas for a

rescue of 3 blind goats in Colora-

do, give some dog and cat food to

a rescue and to give vaccinations to

PET OVERPOPULATION CAN BE CONTROLLED.

In fact it’s a SNAP!

If you want to spay or neuter your pet or maybe some cats that

are just hanging around we can help assist you with our Spay

Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP)! Here is a list of Veterinar-

ians who have our SNAP applications on hand: Montezuma

Vet Services in Camp Verde, Tumbleweed Vet Clinic in Cot-

tonwood and Jerome Humane Society in Jerome. You can also

download our application on our website on the home page. If

you are a Senior, 65 years or older assistance is a slightly larger

amount.

BITTER SWEET EXERIENCE

Sometimes it doesn't always go the way we want. Morning Starr took in a very little Chihuahua who had

just given birth to 3 very large, for her, babies. Unfortu-

nately the puppies did not survive. The little Chihuahua

stayed with us for a while and recovered from her caesar-

ian operation that she had to have. She is now back with

her owners. She is also spayed so

she will never have to go through

that again.

We miss you little one!

The SNAP counter This is a running total of how many dogs and cats we

have spayed and neutered with our Spay Neuter

Assistance Program, thanks to you!
